They had each other. Josh loved Laurie so much, and Laurie deserved her life so much. And sometimes it felt like there was no space for him there with his friends. One of them was this younger man who David didn't always know and who he mistook for the person he knew once again at home and cared for. The other was a woman who had grown up without him for other reasons. And neither of them needed him. Not really.
His hand comes up to rub the back of his neck and then he moved forward. He set the glass down on the steps and offered his arms out to her in a hug.
"It's really okay, you know. To want to go home. To see your mother. To have Sofia and Jay and Kevin and all of them. There's nothing wrong with wanting to go back to the Earth we knew. You shouldn't stay here just because I don't know how to handle going back."
