Anger has always been Matthew's biggest problem. (Aside from, well. Everything else.) When denied what he thinks he deserves, when disrespected, his temper flares and it usually ends in violence. It is also when he's angry that he's sloppiest and prone to mistakes.
He knows that attacking David is a terrible idea. It's a hard thought to hold on to, especially when the simple idea of freedom sends a bird of panic fluttering in his chest.
