"We love sugar," David answered with a smile. "And these are made with plenty of sugar and butter as often as not."

He smiles and selects his own, a simple cherry fritter.

"These are typically breakfast pastries. Not everyone eats them, and even those who do don't eat them all the time. But I wanted something special for the morning. Something special for a new friend is just as nice though."
