Drift hasn't had much time to get settled, the way he sees it. He crash-landed in the middle of nowhere a week ago, then got yanked all the way over here to Excelsior. There's been a real headache trying to work out what the locals want to do with him but thankfully that doesn't seem to be "keep the giant alien robot imprisoned so we can study him" (yet). After finally being released on his own, Drift is still trying to get his bearings. He needs to find some way getting income, because of course he does. How else is he supposed to get fuel, even the local slop? He's mostly kept to himelf, investigated the edge of the local street-racing scene, tried to keep himself out of the limelight--and then comes the freaky confluence storm all over again.
The storm is coming and Drift isn't quite sure on where to take shelter--or if even needs to. Then with the crackle of ozone, it's on top of him already. He hunkers down, waits for it to pass--and then the city seems to descend into chaos around him. Suddenly people are falling from the sky, others seem to be bursting out of buildings and along the streets, blazing with newly discovered power. Drift screeches to a stop at the edge of a crater, and deciding that a giant robot is probably not the best way to go, decides to manifest his holoform--to all outward appearances, the scruffy looking driver of that very fancy sports car. Scrambling down into the crater towards the new arrival, he skids to a stop to offer a hand up.
"Nothing broken, I hope?"
ii. crypto or cryptid
The problem with some people getting powers is that they then immediately use them to cause problems on purpose. One of the newly empowered smashes open a storefront to start handing out 'free' televisions. Another hefts a car, which is what grabs Drift's attention--and hurls it towards the front of a building. Whatever the grievance is, the impact shakes loose debris and falling chunks of masonry and steel that are enough to seriously injure or even kill someone--and Drift isn't really about that, even if someone might have a good reason to seek out some kind of revenge (but then it might just be petty vandalism). And unfortunately for his hero complex, there's someone or someones right in the path of the debris.
Before he can think better of it, he lunges forward. He transform with a distinctive sound, turning almsot instantly from a fancy red-and-white sports car to a towering edifice of alien technology. He lunges, sprawling himself over the smaller person, almost encircling them in his arms as the impact of steel and concrete makes him shudder. He winces, squints open his optics.
"Are you alright?"
