Perhaps the Alliance wasn't the most powerful entity here in the world compared to the military, but it was how some Metas made their life. Among them was the man currently sitting at a very busy looking desk in the tech department, a set of goggles on his face with little echoes of light on the lenses that say they are some sort of computer. Which doesn't stop him from having another computer in front of him.

Of course his attention isn't so fully taken with the work at hand that he doesn't notice someone enter the office. He looks up from what looks like a wrist watch on the desk before him and smiles at the arrival.

"Good Afternoon. What can Tech Support do for you today?"

And then, after a moment and a glance down at his desk, he sighs.

"Please tell me it's tech support related and that you didn't break something important. I've got a backlog of physical repairs to do, so it might not be fast if it's not really vital. I mean, unless it's code related. That I can do quickly."

And then he grimaces all over again.

"Unless it's field work. Please tell me it's not field work. I had dinner plans with my better half."

The best part of having left the military for the guild was that he got to live his own life on his own terms, more or less. It was the moments he could have out in the world, like at the grocery store buying ingredients for dinner, or perhaps out at his favorite coffee shop sitting with his best friends Laurie and Kevin. At other times he just got to enjoy the advanced city, walking hand in hand with his wife in a local park, or and even at a popular bar at night where the robo-bartender made drinks and his friend Jay played music.

This, David knew, was the life. It was welcoming, it was safe, and he knew he could live it to its fullest. Technology could make lives more comfortable, the Metas made the world safe, and everyone he loved was happy. How could he ever be tempted away from something like this? Especially when he didn't even notice if his eyes passed over someone he had known days before. The good news was that he hadn't forgotten all of his friends, so there was always a warm smile for those he remembered, who fit the lie of this place.

Dinner was always a delight, something to be shared with people he cared for, and of course friends. In this case it was just as much that the plans for the evening had to do with his partner's happiness. Dani had been looking forward to dinner with the Octaviuses for a while, and he'd left her in the living room with Otto's wife so they could talk. David, of course, was preparing dinner so he was caught up in the kitchen.

That didn't mean he held back from smiling as Otto entered.

"Did they send you in for something, or were they starting to talk about something uncomfortable?" he asks with a smile.
