When caught in the mirror characters remain in their physical form but are now being controlled by the mirror - their reflection is steering them rather than the other way around. The mirror's aim is to keep your character reflected to maintain control, so it will make your character lash out at anybody who either tries to destroy the mirror or take them out of the room.
As far as Old Man Loki appearing due to Loki's interaction with the spell, this sounds good! He can either appear as a hallucination visible only to Loki, or as a shadow construct. If the latter, the shadow construct's ultimate aim will be to keep trapped characters in and get rescuers out.
