One of the pioneers of sci-fi in Japan, Oshikawa Shunrō, really liked his stuff and wrote stories that were a lot like his. With mechanized warfare and speculative technology, that kind of crap. Kaitō Bōken Kidan: Kaitei Gunkan is probably his most popular one. There's also tv shows based on what he wrote, and apparently there's also a section in the Disneyland in Japan that's dedicated to him.
