It's nothing terribly out of the ordinary for Donnie; getting caught up in too many thoughts and an itch to work on things, typically late at night. The extra coffees from earlier probably don't help for putting his mind at rest, but hey! The good thing is that he realizes he's got a good head-start on physically mapping out his thought processes on this particular subject-

...only to find out that said material in question is nowhere on your person or anywhere in your lab. Room. Whatever.

It doesn't take him long to recall the last place he'd seen his notebook. He'd parted with it like a bad break-up and even after he'd hurled the thing under the bed in the guest room at Dylan's penthouse, he'd imagined it tauntingly calling after him: You'll be back.

He wrestles a bit with the decision to go after it. It's been months. There's really no hurry, and it's late, so everyone's likely asleep. But it'd be dumb to bother people when they were awake about something so simple, except it's not really simple because he'd scrawled pages and pages of timeline splits and possibilities, spidery fishers of timelines that might possibly be hopelessly beyond repair. When would the next one simply shatter everything? That thought is what had prompted him to ditch it, but now that they've successfully altered the course of events in this timeline, it's sent his ruminations into overdrive again.

Okay, fine. A quick in and out, grab it and go, and no one will be none the wiser.

The penthouse isn't that hard to get into. When he and Leo had been staying here, they'd made plenty of use of the window over the doors given any chance they had, so it's not like Donnie doesn't remember which window goes to the guest room. But what if they cleaned up since then? Agggh, there goes that Donnie overthink again. Well, he'll cross that bridge when he gets to it. Right now, it's ninja time.

He highly doubts any new security's been added but he checks anyway with his goggles before slipping down to get the window open with a bit of aid from his mystic-tech. This sure isn't the first time he's snuck into anyone's place, that's for sure!

Between fending off rival gangs, preparing for his double’s incoming threat to his gang’s territory, work to maintain his gang’s daily operations, and his civilian job as the Descendant Bar’s owner, Jason was stressed and utterly exhausted.

He comes home to the penthouse about an hour before Donnie sneaks in. By the time the teenager arrives, Jason’s already in bed and fast asleep. The door to his bedroom has been left open.

For all of Donnie's calculations, sometimes you just guess the wrong window. Dylan's not exactly a tidy kid, and his floor is littered with obstacles. The path under the bed is a field of discarded clothing, each article of varying cleanliness and odor. The path out the door to the hallway is a fortress of various food boxes, precariously stacked like the Jenga Tower of Pisa. But maybe he can make it through without knocking them over and waking Dylan!

Of course, the way Donnie came in is still clear.

Dylan mumbles something and rolls over in his sleep, looking a little distressed. Maybe he's having a nightmare.
