Balthier shifts to a more stable position, far enough away from David that if he screws this up and topples, he's not at risk of skin contact. He closes his eyes and takes several stabling breath because his head is still screaming and this already takes more focus.

It takes precision and no small amount of will not to open a full transference. He goes slow as to not overwhelm himself, pulling just to the point he has a headache and an increased light sensitivity. It's just enough to make him more miserable, and hopefully enough to get David to his feet.
