Different vocal tones is one of the things Bette herself never really got ahold of. In costume, out of costume, on the tennis court or off, she pretty much sounds the same. Thankfully, she's never been popular enough for anyone to make the correlation between Bette in her civilian life and Flamebird in her costumed life. It's not like they haven't both been on TV.

"Not that I was expecting to walk into a where-everybody-knows-your-name kind of situation, but I think the hope was I might run into a familiar face or two. Which sounds ridiculous, now that I'm saying it out loud. Life's not a tv show, Bette! But the all-kinds-of-people does explain the metal detecting bouncers up front." Another reason she was glad she didn't wear her costume under her clothes. No matter how common superheroes might be becoming her, that would still be awkward to explain, especially in a place where she doesn't really know anyone. If she was like carted off to the police station or whatever, who would her first call even be?
