"Between childhood beauty pageants, intensive tennis coaching, the early celebrity that came with being a teenage tennis wunderkind - at one point they were calling me the next Steffi Graf - I...needed the help. So I reached out for it, you know?" It wasn't like she could tell her therapist about Flamebird or the Teen Titans or anything, but there was other stuff that she had been able to deal with, and it had helped, immensely. "It's a safer bet in LA than it is in Gotham, where it feels like everyone except the Joker went to grad school before going evil." Which begged the question - did grad school turn you evil? Was she that intent on becoming Dr. Bette Kane one day? Maybe it doesn't matter anymore, here, now.

"It's the guns, right? The mysterious resurrection, the guns. I don't know about you, but where I'm from there are rumors that 'Red Hood' used to be Joker's old identity before he turned into the criminal clown he is now. I'm assuming - judging by the bar and who is and isn't allowed in (and unless they're armed, it doesn't seem like there's a whole lot of isn't) - that you're maybe tied to the criminal element a little bit?"

The way she says it, all brightly and easy, without any sort of judgement or disdain, is probably different from how other Bats and Birds have handled his connections. But she's seen how Batwoman has worked with the likes of Clayface and even tried to help Alice become more heroic as Red Alice, no matter how short-lived that was. Maybe it's not the way she'd do things, but he's from a different world - both literally and figuratively - and she sort of understands that. Or at least she's keeping an open mind about it.
