What: A fancy dinner party at Balthier’s house

Content Warnings: none yet
[ The antique table has both leaves in it, extending from the dining room into the living room with twelve chairs around it. It's got a stately tablecloth and pale gold napkins. All the places are set with white china trimmed in gold, except one, which is green and gold and clearly for Loki, with a matching cup. There are name cards. There's a seating chart. The far wall of the dining room sports a buffet laden with stunning food in matching dishes, and the kitchen counter serves as a bar with a ridiculous amount of nice wine and alcohol.
The furniture in the living room has been rearranged to accommodate the table. The windows and doors are open to create a breeze and the back porch has additional seating. If people are looking for privacy, they can disappear to the basement, which is just a storage room, bathroom, and laundry unit, or upstairs where there is a loft study, a bathroom, and two bedrooms. One is locked. There are no bathrooms on the ground floor so excuses abound.
There’s also Romantic piano music playing on an honest-to-God gramophone. The whole house is restored original wood, antique furniture, old books, and nice art. Balthier is extremely pleased with his ship-like house and happy to finally show it off. He also asked Strange to enchant it to make it more or less metaproof for the evening.
TLDR:
-There will be a fine meal and plenty of alcohol
-Balthier will be giving Loki poison as condiments at some point (don’t @ him David and Billy) ((definitely @ him))
-There’s music if anyone wants to dance
-There are private places to slip into
-The house has been metaproofed to some extent by Stephen but Balthier will frown upon breaking his stuff
-Chaos pls

Balthier turns him around, partly so he can't reach any tools, and partly so David is more inclined to look at him. "You have made a beautiful spread of food that, while it will never reach your expectations, has far exceeded mine. Now trust my expertise when I say this part requires you to step away from the kitchen."
He cups David's face in his hand, voice softer. "You helped me with something I don't know how to do this week. Let me help you, too." Not that dinner parties are on par with complete breakdowns over childhood trauma, but, the spirit of partnership is.

"Go sit in one of the chairs, looking dazzling, and don't get up until you finish this." He's already mixed David something he likes -- he has of course paid attention to his love's tastes. And he knew better than giving David an instruction and then an opportunity to talk his way out of it. That's just how he was when he was flustered.

"Eddie and Peter crashing here tonight?"
Peter, at least, wasn't affiliated, traveling had to be harder on them. Unless Loki had helped out. David didn't know for certain.

He hears the additional question in David's ask, and it makes him feel warm. "They did not give me a straight answer, but if they do, I will gladly take us to your apartment on my bike if you prefer. I don't plan to be drunk with Loki in my house." What. He does not. He also can hold his liquor a lot better than David can.

It's good to know, though, that he can be subtle and Balthier will see what David's really after.
"You really think Loki would do something?"

"I may have told Loki I was going to steal something from him at his housewarming, after which he may have threatened me, and I'm not sure how likely it is he'll try to return the gesture in some way." His bemused smile says there's no malice or hard feelings, but, well, he likes his house. And his things. And Loki has much more powerful magic than Balthier does. That may have been the majority of the motivation for Stephen's spell on the house.
He'll poke a sleeping couerl but he isn't going to invite it into his ship.

David stares at his lover in shock. That was a long time ago. And he doesn't know what to do with that information.
"I must ask what motivated you to threaten to steal something."

He kisses David’s gaping mouth. “You’re cute when I make you speechless.”

Loki cared enough for him to give someone a shovel talk?

Truth be told he’s delighted Loki is coming, and pleased they have talked outside David. He’s looking forward to some of these relationships turning into real friendships.

But he’s glad this information is pleasing to David, even if he recalibrates that David isn’t good at reading his own friends.
“Well you should tell him. Maybe before I give him poison. Which he asked for to be clear. Then again maybe he’ll be more relaxed after. I have no idea how that works and am eagerly looking forward to finding out.”

But he's pleased David is focused on that and a seat and his drink and not fretting over the food. Which was already glorious and ample.
"Clearly Loki and I would be responsible. But no one is getting poisoned except Loki, who volunteered. It came up that poisons taste pleasant to him. I may have grabbed pigments from the restoration aspect of my work for him to taste. I've labeled them exceedingly clearly and Loki has his own dishes. It will be fine." And if not, Loki and Billy are both magical. It will be fine.

"You know if you season things with pigments, you're going to throw off the flavor balance of my beautiful food," David points out, but this with a playful grin. Ha, he's thinking of cooking again.

"You are allowed to complain loudly that we are terrible but you are not allowed to season or cook anything else tonight."
And then there's a knock on the door and the evening is starting.
