[Jaskier and Yennefer had gotten Ciri settled at the hotel days ago, and there is a lot about it that’s still quite overwhelming but for the most part she’s as settled there as can be expected. It was the place that made the most sense to bring her mother after finding her in the library. At least there, she knew they were safe.

She had immediately contacted the other adults in her life because— well, your long-dead mother shows up, whole and solid and real and alive, you need an adult.

“They’re friends of Geralt’s,” she had explained to Pavetta while they waited. “I think you’ll like them.” She hopes so, at least.

She settles them all in the room once the other two arrive, and… she has no idea what to say. Thankfully, Jaskier has never met a silence he couldn’t break.]

I don’t think that’s necessary.

[This is all… quite a lot to take in, even now. She’s somewhat managed to come to terms that she is alive, at least for the moment. That this is all she has; were she to return to her world, their world… she’s dead and gone. Long dead and gone. It’s relatively straightforward. Her emotion are not. They’re far more complicated, a snarled, tangled knot in her chest that she has scarcely begun to attempt to untangle. Or deal with. Burying them as deep as she possibly can is a perfectly valid way to handle them, isn’t it?

It's far more important that she has the opportunity to spend time with Ciri. With her daughter. To get to know the lovely young woman she’s grown into.

No. The guilt, and the heartbreak, and the grief, and the devastation is all better kept hidden.

’They’re friends of Geralt’ Ciri had told her, and Pavetta had, of course, had her suspicions as who at least one of those friends was going to be the moment Ciri had mentioned Geralt’s name. She knows him, after all, although not well. He’d been there, that day. Had protected the man she’d loved. (It would have been better that he had let her mother kill Duny, she knows that now. But there’s nothing to be done now.) And she remembers Jaskier. She might have been… distracted, that night. But she remembers him.

And it is a relief to see a familiar face.]

It’s a pleasure to see you again, as well. [And she means it. With all her heart.] Not at all, and I do appreciate it, but Ciri is right. It’s not necessary. [She’s not certain of the protocol of expressing sympathy when one party is, in fact, the deceased. But she would rather… not, truth be told. It only tangles the knot of emotions worse.]
