CLOSED | Dylan's 15th Birthday
Who: Dylan Brock
codicies, his housemates, and those invited to the party — which is pretty much everyone he's had a positive interaction with.
What: Dylan's 15th birthday party, a bonfire cookout!
When: October 8
Where: Home of Diana Prince in Little Love, KS
Content Warnings: none (but will label things if asked)

SETUP
(CLOSED to Dylan's housemates & anyone who might have showed up early to help prep)
Setting up for the party beforehand.
FOOD
Autumn has set in. The daytime is cool, the evenings are chilly, and there's a bonfire roaring in one of Diana's fields. Dylan's been prepping food for the party all morning — There's sausages, s'more supplies, and shish kebabs stacked with meat & vegetables. There's even some sweet potatoes! He saw a video on Japanese street food and wanted to try cooking potatoes on the fire in foil.
As for drinks, of course water and soda are available, but he managed to borrow some coffee urns from a kind caterer in town in exchange for a little manual labor. Now he's got a great setup for hot coffee, hot chocolate, AND hot cider all evening!
There's also a VERY large sheet cake for serving later. He'd been offered a brain-shaped cake, but the pictures had been a little too realistic, and he didn't think he (or the guests) would find it all too appetizing.
Though he's a little afraid the brain cake is still coming out, whether he likes it or not, but the sheet cake will be what he uses to blow out the candles, thank you very much.
SWORDPLAY
One of the gifts Dylan received was a real-life sword from Diana! He's been taking lessons from her and is ready to try it out. There's a little clearing a little ways from the bonfire where he's trying it out. If you want, you can come and spar — with Dylan, with Diana, or even with each other. With swords, sticks, or even with fists!! Come join the impromptu Fight Club.
EDIT to add: there are real AND wooden swords available for sparring, as well as wooden & straw dummies to practice on as well!
GAME TIME
There are frisbees, a football, soccer balls, even a ninepin set?? Do you have these games in your world? There's all kinds of fun sports gear available. Or you could grab something at random and start a game of Calvinball.
FIRESIDE
With the daylight fading, the fire becomes the center of activity. As you roast marshmallows or weiners (or grab one of those potatoes out of the fire) everyone huddles around, seated on rocks, stumps or lawn chairs as we all sing songs and tell stories.
Any spooky tales from your homeworld? Any songs you'd like to sing? Dylan had gotten a few guitar lessons from Jaskier before he disappeared, so if you start singing, he'll try to follow along with chords!
FIREWORKS
oh my god who brought those. please don't set any crops on fire. EXTINGUISHERS ON STANDBY.
WILDCARD
Any Standard Bonfire Activities I've forgotten, go ahead and throw them in!
After-Party Sleepover (CLOSED to Dylan's housemates + Nico, Will, Hunter, Hibiki, and Chris Yukine)
Six teenagers sleeping on couches & air mattresses in the living room, watching movies... what crimes will they commit?

Ultimately though, he decides to come. It helps that Dylan arranged his transportation.
In Central City, Jason waits at the meetup point with a wrapped box. He then waves when Otto says his name. With the older man's tentacles it seems it would've been impossible to miss him]
Hey. Otto, right?
no subject
[He steps forward to offer a handshake. One of the tentacles is holding a wrapped box as well, coiled around it to leave the claw still free. Handy!]
You ready to go?
no subject
Pretty much. Thanks again for doing this. You sure the guilds won't mind?
no subject
At the question, Otto just snorts.]
I won't tell them if you don't.
[He starts keying in the next coordinates. Honestly, he wouldn't be surprised if they could access the logs from this thing - but he also doesn't much care. What are they going to do to him at this point?]
I joined up with them because I couldn't get away with anything else. It's not so easy for all of us to hide in plain sight. [Nothing against metas who can; just - well, it's true.] That kind of recruitment doesn't exactly inspire much loyalty.

Swordplay
Eh, in my world this is what it looks like, definitely. Though with a lot more chaos. If anyone gets hurt, I'll patch 'em up.
[Then, he smiles in some dry amusement.]
Nice to see you again. [A thought occurs to him.] Oh, you know? I never asked how you'd prefer I address you as. Like, Otto or Octavius or something else.
no subject
[But then, none of them were superheroes either, so.
Otto smiles. For all that he's a little alarmed by the whole swordfighting scenario, he doesn't seem super tense. Not like he'd be if this were a bunch of regular kids, at least. It's...probably handled.]
Just Otto is fine. How have you been? I see you've made some friends already.
no subject
[Will is so amused. Who goes to roller rinks anymore?]
Otto, then. I'm doing well! Turns out that I know someone who's been here for a couple of months already. He's been helping me settle in. His friends kinda adopted me into the friend group, which I'm not complaining about.
no subject
[He's good-humored about it!]
Ah! That's lucky! I arrived together with a friend of mine - he disappeared months ago, but I was very lucky to have his help getting started.

Swordplay
Most birthdays for me were only slightly different than my usual days: training with a break for useful gifts. A lot of sword and knife practice in addition to hand-to-hand.
[He reaches out to pick up one of the wooden swords from the table.]
Of course, it took a while for us to get up to using live steel for sparring. Master didn't want us actually killing each other.

When I was that age, kids just went bowling.
no subject
[He knows his upbringing was atypical, just not how much.]
no subject
[But god, you're right, you're so right.]
You're Six, right? We've spoken a few times over the network.

In the city, I mean.
[Hunter puts another marsh-mallow (he wonders what they have to do with marshes) on a stick and holds it over the fire.]
We don't have cities like that back home, they were all destroyed. The biggest settlements we have are large towns.
And lantern light in even the largest towns is a lot dimmer than the lights of the cities here, so you can see a lot more stars.
no subject
I've lived in large cities most of my life. New York was a lot like Central, in terms of size. They called it the City That Never Sleeps.
[So, obviously: you can't see shit astronomically-speaking!]
Of course, that does have its downsides.
no subject
[Created. Before he was created. Something Belos did in the earliest days of cementing his power, blaming it all on wild witches. They've at least rebuilt somehwat since then. The towns are growing larger all the time.]
[He looks at Otto a little wide-eyed with awe at the idea of a city so busy it never seems like night. Central isn't quite that way, some places are very run down and not busy even during the day, derelict.]
I like Central. Kind of. It's a little too crowded in places, though.
And it's strange to not be able to just go to the edge of town and see trees. You have those plant islands, parks, but it's not the same.
I'd like to see more of them someday. Like an actual forest. I grew up hearing about them. Green trees and rain you can actually walk in.
no subject
Well. They're having a nice time at this party. Having a real reaction to all of that will just kill the mood, and won't do anything to help anyway. So Otto just smiles.]
You should try a state park. I've only been to the Adirondacks, near where I grew up - I've never exactly been the outdoorsy type. But they've got huge forests. Lakes and mountains too, if you like to fish or hike.

In fairness, Chris's specialty was never in stealth. ]

It may not have been entirely obvious on their first meeting that Otto can see through the actuators. He prefers to rely on his own eyes when he can, certainly when he's talking to people. But now, a couple times when Chris is watching him while he's engaged with something else, it sure looks like one of the tentacles is pointed at her - observing right back.
He glances at her a few times himself, brow furrowed. But she's avoiding him so obviously that he doesn't quite seem inclined to approach himself. Whatever it's about...well, there's no reason for him to corner the girl at a party over it. He's still gonna be in all the high-traffic areas at this party, though; it's not really that big a venue.]
no subject
...Or maybe he's just being nice and not outing her. She's aware that mask only covers the eyes and not most of her face.
Eventually events conspire her to be sloppy, however, and she ends up bumping into Otto as she turns away from something else. ]
Ah, sorry, I— [ She stops, her eyes wide. Uh oh. ]
no subject
Nonetheless. It's hardly his first rodeo with secret identities.]
It's fine. I'm Otto, I'm in from Excelsior.
[He offers a hand. Time to pretend he's just never seen this kid before in his entire life!]

fireside
Y-yeah. It's beautiful. Not something I see often. Even other times I went camping. We were probably still too close to cities.
no subject
[He contemplates the sky a second longer - is one of the tentacles also looking at it? - before turning to Dana. Another new face. Maybe he ought to get out of Excelsior more; he doesn't really know a lot of people here. She doesn't seem to have recognized him from some awful dimensional counterpart or another, so he'll introduce himself.]
I'm Otto Octavius.
no subject
Dana Tan. [She quirks a smile.] That's a rather apropos name. Or are the arms a family trait?
no subject
[He smiles, but you definitely get the impression he doesn't love it!]
Ah, are things getting worse in Central, too? I live in Excelsior. It used to be nice. [It is not now!!]
