[ Much like Loki's last party-venture, this is set up very much in the same vein. a large ballroom for dancing needs. Tables and waiters passing around hors d'oeuvres and drinks. At the entrance of the ball room, there’s a fancy mask waiting for you if you don’t have one already. There’s a strict dress code for the event this time and Loki expects everyone to dress accordingly.

The masks also have a spell attached to them. They’ll afford you complete privacy. No one will recognize you under the mask. Unless, of course, you take it off and let them know. Perfect for the party guest who may want to indulge without causing a fuss. Hit up a partner and see where the evening takes you.

This event wouldn’t be complete without candy, of course. There are candies arranged on the tables in all types and colors. In front of them is a small description regarding each kind of candy. Be sure to read them carefully, as Loki has added a little . . . extra to the sweets, to give them a little . . . zing. ]

I. Arrival and Hellos

[Mark had, of course, never been to something so fine as a party like this. That said, when his friend River mentioned it, he immediately went out and rented a black and silver suit coat, a nice top hat that made him think of a steampunk convention he'd once taking pictures for, and of course a nice walking cane to finish the look. All were chosen with a mind in accenting his good friend's fashion for the night, as he was escorting her there. The only thing plain about him for the night was his simple silver face mask, picked up at the door, but hey, it went with the rest of it, right?

Of course, then they were there, and Mark left River to her own socializing, and that meant he had to do something. Dancing really wasn't Mark's sort of thing, and he didn't think he necessarily knew people here, or that he'd know them if they did. Which was, you know, sorta scary. But the night felt peaceful, and he wasn't shaking with too many powers around him demanding to be copied, so he decided he'd try to have fun. Though part of him did wish he had finished making his pitch package for the owner before this, so he could have attended just a s a photographer.]

Oh well, guess I have to have fun. River wouldn't approve if I was a wallflower too.

[Not that he had intended to say it as if he was talking to someone, but oops, there was someone right there, and he smiled nervously.]

II. Chocolate Fun

[Listen, candy was nice, and chocolate was a comfort. Which was why Mark had taken a few. Sure, he'd been intrigued by the notes, but hadn't thought too much about it. Which was clearly a mistake, given the fact that he had forgotten which was supposed to do what, and even that they were supposed to do something. So it wouldn't be that surprising for someone to walk up to him while he was under the influence.

Which, in this moment, could either be white chocolate or alcoholic. They had just been the tastiest tonight. And, of course, they both led to the same, far too true comment as he walked up to someone with more confidence than he normally would.]

III. Echoing Powers

[The night was going long and Mark? Mark was living on the energy of the space around him, though he hadn't realized just how much he was drawing on it. Behind the spell on his mask he was a stranger to all, one having more fun than he knew what to do with. Oh, and there was the glowing. Mark might not have realized it, but he was currently standing near enough to passively be picking up the power of another Meta, a lesser Alliance member known as Radiance. Which was a fitting name, given the fact that the Meta in question tended to make things around them glow a bit.

For Mark, the effect was more limited. Every glint of silver on him, every twist in the silver-white embroidery on his clothes, even the simpler silver cloth of his mask all seemed to radiate a pale light, like the soft, cool light of stars radiating from him. Of course, he hadn't noticed, which meant he didn't know to tamp down on it. Sometimes being a power copier wasn't easy.

That said, Mark was running his own powers too, even if he didn't know it. He finished a conversation with a waiter he had been flirting with in passing, and as he did so, his hand brushed against the young man's skin. The server had been working for hours, tired and wilting, and with the touch he stood up straighter, looked more awake, more energized. Mark had no clue he was putting out the energy, making anyone he touched feel like they had just awoken from a good night of sleep. Too bad in the long run that restfulness wasn't true, and there might be some insomnia issues later tonight for some people. Mark just genuinely didn't know it was happening though. That either of them was happening.

Warning, in the end, might be something desperately needed.]

[OOC: Feel free to approach Mark under the influence of any candies, or to drag him to dance, or anything else. Please also note that he's a power-mimic for non-magic abilities, and if you want a strange way to reveal a power your character doesn't know of yet, or just an interaction of Mark accidentally copying a character's power, feel free to opt-in and ask. I'm always happy to oblige.]

[The woman standing next to the refreshment table turns slowly towards Mark. Was that meant for her? Granted, the entire point of getting this gown was to impress. But there's lots of other gorgeous people around.

At least the compliment seems genuine. Better than the hyperbole the non-Starfallen attendees have been slinging her way.]

Thank you? You look quite dapper yourself.

Dapper. Well that's not something I've ever been called before in my life.

[But he's grinning under his mask which means he's clearly enjoying hearing it.]

[Mayuko smiles back. She has some fruit candy in her system, so seeing Mark happy makes her feel happy as well.]

You haven't? Well, chances to get this dolled up are few and far between. Unless you're from the actual... time period it's based on. Or a real enthusiast.

[If there's a whole lolita culture, there's bound to be a similar level of steampunk aficionados? Maybe?]

Did you have to travel far, or are you based in Central still?

[Well, that's an assumption there, but since he's got the mask on, he's not really bothered that what he says could mess with him, so a touch more honesty (with the white chocolate helping it along), isn't so wrong.]

Oh no. I'm like, from a few years ago. Turns out the future isn't so shiny and impressive now. And I'm not an enthusiast. Seemed like a simple costume to go with my friend that I escorted here. She's the fashionable one. I'm the plus one one.

[Ha, that's almost funny. But no, he continues on to her other question.]

As local as kidnapped to a weird Mirrorverse sorta version of your world can be. But I'm living in Central.

[She nods, she's following his train of thought!]

Right, I'm barely from 1999? Some things different, lots still the same. But that's nice, you came to the gala with someone! And the masks aren't... you can still recognize her?

[The novelty of the effect is still strong, but she's also curious as to the magic's limitations, if there are any.]

I moved out to Sunset Falls a few weeks back. The mood here over the summer... it was really rough for a while. Hopefully things have quieted a bit?

We definitely checked in with each other, so we recognize each other. Not sure how the host did the whole magic thing, but all the better on him. Means I get to relax tonight.

[Yeah, the mood over the summer. Mark knows it. He sighs. God he sighs so much lately.]

I mean, there aren't mobs beating people up. I wasn't here when that was happening though. I was one of the lucky ones sucked off into other dimensions.

It is a very enchanting atmosphere all around. But given the statues around, the theater is run by Loki? Magic to spare, with him.

[Mayuko is circumspect enough to not outright ask what has him stressed out enough that anonymity is a relief. But who knows how this topic will turn....]

You got pulled into other dimensions?! It wasn't just the locals, then... I'm sorry, it must have been a real trial.

[Wait, she knows of Loki and his magic? How interesting.]

You know our host then? I have a friend who is friends with him, but I'm hoping to make myself known to him. Geez, looking to meet a god. How weird is that?

Evidently, another "me" knows a version of him on another world; he was one of the visitors from another dimension. The memories... didn't carry over. Which happens, I know, but it's still a disappointment.

But you want to meet this Loki. Are you looking for employment? Or is it just to meet him?

[A theater this size must have continuous need of hands on deck. What with the performances and the use of the venue for events like this.]

[Another her? Mark is very confused to hear that, and perhaps that is plain on the uncovered part of his face.]

Employment. I have skills he might appreciate that could help this place, if he doesn't already have someone doing them.

[Seeing his confusion, Mayuko offers a slight shrug and shake of her head. Timelines and alternate dimensions are hard, buddy!]

What is it you do, if I might ask?

I mean, that really diminishes the anonymousness, especially if I get hired by our host.

[So, he's not going to detail what he is.]

But let's just go with general and say I'm an artist. Or an aspiring one.

An artist? I see. I do hope you get a chance to meet with him, then.

And you? What brings you here? Is it just you apparently knowing him but not knowing knowing him?

Ah... like you, I know him for his works here. The plays, and even this being the second? Major social event he's held. And October, in my experience, can be a very stressful month. So while things are quiet--

I wanted to get out of the house and have some fun. Maybe see some friends in Central before I head back.

I actually haven't seen the plays. Way too much drain on limited disposable income to really indulge in that.

[Wanting to get out and have fun was a big motivator to his own presence because of that.]

You chose a different Meta-City?

Of course. I still had the card at the time, so that helped. His magic, alongside more practical effects, made for a stunning show.

And yeah, I relocated. I live in Sunset Falls. It's... weird, but quieter than Central.

Weird?

[Mark had checked it out, but it seemed too small time to support a freelance photographer. Which was sad. He thought that both Sunset Falls and Little Love were nice looking places.]

You know how Excelsior is all about science and technology? Sunset Falls is ALL about the arcane and occult. The use of magic is widespread. And it manifests in various ways.

Arcane and occult...

[Well, that sounded tempting. Mark couldn't do magic stuff, so maybe it would be safer for him.]

How many ways?

How many? That's difficult to say. I've only been there a month, you see.

[Mayuko lays a hand on Mark's arm; he wants to know more about Sunset Falls, and she is willing to share.]

I don't know if latent meta-abilities come into play but it seems like if one has the willingness to learn and practice, magic is accessible to a broad band of the populace. People practice their skills openly, there's very little prejudice against magic use, or metas in general. The businesses that cater to them aren't shunted off to the shady side of town, unless they prefer it there.

[She pauses, gathering her thoughts.]

But every city has its dark side. All that magic attracts supernatural... things. People don't go out after dark unless they're protected or it's that important to go.

That sounds pretty scary.

[More the supernatural things than the being accepted thing. He could go for the being accepted. But being a photographer meant that sometimes he wanted to be out after dark, and he couldn't really protect himself so...]

I will have to pass on that. I've live with the mobs that may not know what I am, thanks.

That's understandable. To me, Central was the more frightening of the two; humans are often the real monsters in a quiet world. That's all the more amplified here.

But let's not dwell on that tonight. We're here to have a good time!

[Yeah, she's not wrong, and damn that's depressing.]
