[ Much like Loki's last party-venture, this is set up very much in the same vein. a large ballroom for dancing needs. Tables and waiters passing around hors d'oeuvres and drinks. At the entrance of the ball room, there’s a fancy mask waiting for you if you don’t have one already. There’s a strict dress code for the event this time and Loki expects everyone to dress accordingly.

The masks also have a spell attached to them. They’ll afford you complete privacy. No one will recognize you under the mask. Unless, of course, you take it off and let them know. Perfect for the party guest who may want to indulge without causing a fuss. Hit up a partner and see where the evening takes you.

This event wouldn’t be complete without candy, of course. There are candies arranged on the tables in all types and colors. In front of them is a small description regarding each kind of candy. Be sure to read them carefully, as Loki has added a little . . . extra to the sweets, to give them a little . . . zing. ]

[Pauses. That... Wasn't supposed to come out]

[Mayuko does not register the pause; there's some other partygoers coming up to the table for chocolate and her broad skirt is a bit of a block. She gives them a bright smile, assures them the chocolates are good and sidles to an open spot, gesturing Jason to follow. (By happenstance, still close enough for him to observe what's going on with the sweets and which partygoers is getting what).]

That's fair. It's not the smartest play to put something obviously charmed on your face. But I don't think he has, like, a vendetta to make it a... more harmful effect than anonymity. Did something happen at the last gala to give you suspicions?

[Jason lingers for just a half moment longer than needed as he tries to observe how the others are reacting to the candies before following Mayuko]

Not him specifically but a different Loki spied on me and my adoptive dad during the last gala.

[Okay, seriously. Something is going on. That wasn't supposed to come out either. Jason's frowning and looks back at the candies]

Ah... yes, that would give a person reason to be cautious.

[Jason's reactions to his own responses are bringing something to mind. Mayuko adjusts her gloves as she works out how to gauge the effect.]

Are you... feeling any different after eating the chocolate?

No but... something seems to be wrong. What about you? How're you feeling?

[Mayuko takes a look around the gala. She already feels inclined to help Jason, with only fifty-percent certainty that it's him. But when she sees all these strangers in their masks? It's hard to define what has shifted, and she sounds uncertain.]

I do feel different. Like a feeling of... generalized, positive regard all of a sudden.

[It's weird having this level of charitable thoughts towards everyone!]

[Jason stares, unsure of what she means]

Like a mild high or something else?

I strongly doubt there are physical additives in the candies, besides the alcohol. Magical additions, though....

You think they've been enchanted?

[Which would explain why he suddenly blurted out things he was trying to hide]

The masks sure are. So why wouldn't he set up tricks among the treats?

[Jason thinks back on what the chocolate's description was. Well, damnit. Mayuko better not ask too many questions]

Right. Of course he would do that.

[Meanwhile, she's caught sight of ~~EDDIE~~ SOMEONE over there going off with a plate full of white chocolates.]

At least you stopped after the first. The way some of the others are going, they'll be spitting truth until daybreak.

[Oh no, Eddie and Venom. This might be awkward]

Yeah, that doesn't sound like fun. Hopefully mine wears out soon.

If it was a batch enchant over the bunch, one's probably not that long-lasting.

[Mayuko lifts the corner of her mask sans fascinator, showing one of her dark eyes with dramatic eyeshadow. She'll give him as least one ally in a room of strangers.]

Not that I know that much about the art.

[Oh hey. That's a relief. Jason nods at her in recognition]

Ever experienced something like this before?

I'm way more familiar than I'd like to admit. Truth effects were aggravating, but most of the time, it would be a zone of effect. If you could get out and stay out for long enough, it would fade.

You mean like someone cast a spell on a specific area? Why?

The same reason Loki did tonight-- to stir the pot. Get people riled up. Even genii loci look for that kind of entertainment.

[The crowd by the table seems to be dispersing, some partners trying to soothe raised voices, others becoming more touchy-feely. Mayuko hums as she watches them pass by.]

Interesting... they must have dipped more heavily into the other two selections.

[Jason had also been observing as he was talking to Mayuko]

The other theme tonight seems to be sweet and sour. You're still feel okay?

I'm still okay, thanks. It would be overkill for him to add impairments on top of the effects.

[Which isn't to say Loki couldn't have! It would be potentially bad press towards his own business if too many guests leave feeling worse than they arrived.]

But it won't do, fretting about the candies... Perhaps a turn around the dancefloor?

Not usually my thing but it might be a good distraction this time. Plus, maybe I'll overhear some useful stuff.

[Oh goddamnit. Clearly, he's still under the truth effect]

[She blinks for a second, then huffs in amusement. You thought it'd be over that quickly, how cute.]

Well, yeah, maybe they'll even be nice enough to drop names. Plus, movement means burning energy which means burning through the effect. PLUS plus, I'll be busy not stepping on your feet and letting you listen in; therefore, not asking as many insensitive questions. Everyone's a winner.

[Jason snorts]
