[ Much like Loki's last party-venture, this is set up very much in the same vein. a large ballroom for dancing needs. Tables and waiters passing around hors d'oeuvres and drinks. At the entrance of the ball room, there’s a fancy mask waiting for you if you don’t have one already. There’s a strict dress code for the event this time and Loki expects everyone to dress accordingly.

The masks also have a spell attached to them. They’ll afford you complete privacy. No one will recognize you under the mask. Unless, of course, you take it off and let them know. Perfect for the party guest who may want to indulge without causing a fuss. Hit up a partner and see where the evening takes you.

This event wouldn’t be complete without candy, of course. There are candies arranged on the tables in all types and colors. In front of them is a small description regarding each kind of candy. Be sure to read them carefully, as Loki has added a little . . . extra to the sweets, to give them a little . . . zing. ]

Sure, take your bragging rights. Anything that can make all of us anonymous is worth it.

[Not specifically calling out himself here, even if it's probably a little obvious. Honestly, he sort of wants to know if Loki can see through his own illusions, or if they're general-purpose.]

[ he can, but loki does have some manners. he's not out to ruin anyone's night. ]

It wasn't all that difficult. My illusions are very powerful.

[Eh, Otto's not super fussed about a single person seeing through them. Honestly, none of the people here are the ones he really wants to hide from in the first place. It would just...be nice, sometimes, to go out without immediately being marked as Different.]

Useful skill to have. The nearest thing I've got is this camouflage ability the Confluence gave me - but it's not as precise as I'd like.

[Mostly - he can't really use it to just hide the tentacles and nothing else.]

[ loki blinks. useful is not something ever said about his illusions and certainly not one ever said to loki. ]

Was that the only ability it gave you?

Yes, just that one. No idea why.

[it absolutely isn't, he just hasn't tripped over the other weirdly specific powers he got yet!]

I haven't had much reason to really use it, but I made sure to learn how anyway. That, and I kept accidentally turning invisible.

Mm, it can take some time. You need a firm sense of self.

[ which is ironic, because loki certainly doesn't possess that entirely, but even when it fluctuates, loki is always himself. ]

[Well! While he seems to have some thoughts, we don't gotta unpack that!]

Yes, I never have had much luck avoiding that kind of thing. I wasn't planning on being any kind of vigilante when I first came here, you know.

[And now he...is? To some extent, at least, enough that people know about him. Just a little more reactive than proactive - but when things happen as much as they do around here, it ends up looking very similar.]

What made you change your mind?

Hard to just live your life, in a place like this. It's always something - I couldn't just sit around at home while the place went to hell. Especially with all these kids out there.

[He has no standing to police the superhero activities of any of these teens, but that doesn't mean he has to like it!]

[ personally, loki hasn't found it too hard. he's selfish and he has a hard time connecting with others. those he cares about can take care of themselves anyway.

but he knows he lacks the . . . heroic outlook. ]

What did you do before coming here?

[doctopoda]

I was a scientist. A nuclear physicist. But I haven't gotten back into that field.

[His eyes are on one of his claws as it flexes idly. After a second, he makes the effort to pull his focus back to Loki, joking:]

Turns out you can't just walk in from another universe and get access to nuclear material!

[ isn't that what he did in germany — oh right, it was illegal. loki forgets about things like that. ]

Is it a difficult field to re-enter?

[doctopoda]

Oh, yes. Especially with no record in this world to speak of. I could be a criminal, for all they know.

[Which, like. He definitely is, so he can't be all that upset about it.]

But it's fine. I needed a change in pace.

And this change brought you to heroism?

[ he finds that a little amusing. loki never quite made that change. when he is "heroic", it's always for his own desires. ]

Medical technology! I'm not a full-time hero, if that's what you want to call it. I'd throw my back out in a week!

[Sounds like he's also a tad uneasy with being called a "hero" in general, but don't worry about it!]

It's a better use of my talents, anyway.

I'm afraid I'm not well-versed in that. But I can see how it might be beneficial to mortals here.

Do gods not lose limbs?

Not as easily as humans might.

[He shrugs slightly. Fair enough?]

Well, it certainly is useful to those who need them. It seems more common here, to me - it's a dangerous world, even if there are metas trying to manage it all.

Compared to what I've seen, this seems rather mild. They fluctuate every month or so, but it peters out. What is there to fear from that?

[doctopoda]

[Otto arches his eyebrows.]

Over the last few months, Excelsior lost power for nearly two weeks, all the metas lost their powers, other people gained the powers and couldn't control them, and there were mobs in the streets. Then there was the robot uprising, with the giant robots for whatever reason. Ah, and before that, all of our deepest fears came to life and rampaged.

[so. what do you MEAN this is NORMAL]

My world was...very much not like this.

[ honestly, it just sounds like the islands to him. being updated to his past experiences has helped a lot. ]

But this is not a world. This is more of a nexus point, is it not?

Why wouldn't it be a world? It existed well before all of us started showing up.

[They're a tiny fraction of the population, all things considered.]
