'Twas the night week before Christmas, when all through the house...

Pretty much everyone was stirring, because there's a party to enjoy.

Calling it a party may be a slight stretch, when there's really only a handful of them and they're not going to get up to anything more intense than playing Mario Kart and watching movies from the 90s, but Steph thought that labeling it a sleepover might sound a little immature. The idea had percolated over the last few weeks; there's a good handful of them now, from roughly the same universe, but not all of them know each other well, and while Steph might not be as tactically minded as someone like Tim, it had seemed sensible that they do a little team building.

Also, it should be fun. That's very important.

With Bart being the only one living in a space that could actually be considered a house, she'd reached out to ask if he'd be cool with hosting, and had sent out texts to the rest of their friends once she had his approval. Not being a jerk, she'd also promised to swing by early to help set up, for all the set up that needs to be done when a handful of people in their twenties hang out. Mostly it involved grabbing a few extra bean bags, setting up the TV and game consoles, and adding a few seasonally appropriate holiday decorations.

The invitation texts served the secondary purpose of assigning everyone some kind of snack or beverage to bring, most of it falling into typical junk food fare. Chips and dip, soda, pizza rolls, pretzels (the soft variety, of course), mozzarella sticks, popcorn. People are welcome to get fancier, but she'd mostly suggested things they could eat as is, or food that's easy to pop in the oven. This isn't a gala thrown by Bruce, after all. And with none of them being particularly big drinkers, she'd just told everyone it was BYOB if they want to get alcohol involved in their evening.

It's unlikely any of them would want to get wasted. While they're all strictly off duty for the evening, 'drunken misadventures' isn't really the vibe Steph is going for with this whole thing; it's meant to be a relaxing, fun evening, where they can eat, watch movies, and get into unnecessarily heated arguments about video games before crashing wherever they can find a soft surface at the end of the night. As if they're normal young adults and not a gaggle of traumatized vigilantes and lab experiments.

Later in the evening, after they've all poured outside to make s'mores around an improvised firepit, she'll probably break out some silly party games, like Never Have I Ever, or worse, card games like Uno. Because nothing says fun like arguing over whether it's morally right to use two skips in a row.

Some people just want to watch the world burn.

[Jason can imagine how a version of him would be constantly fighting his family, including beating up Robin. There's still a lot of things he's still angry over.

He also doesn't flinch from Kon saying he's giving him just one chance. Jason's not deluded enough to think he can take on a Kryptonian without at least having kryptonite on him. He's also figured Kon's talk is coming from how protective he is over Tim]

The Confluence dropped us here while we were both in our suits. I got angry immediately when I saw him in the Robin colors.

[And h dearly wanted to lash out at something]

But I figured it was better to go chew out Bruce instead.

[For now, Jason thinks it's better to put some cards on the table. He's not looking to make friends but maybe a little honesty about how he works will help. Let other establish how he might be different from the other Jasons]

That's fair.

[He gets it, he really does, especially after what the Joker did to Tim.]

Look, I started young, too, so I can't be all "teens shouldn't be heroes blah blah blah," because of all the good I know I did. Saved the world more than once.

But I made a lot of mistakes when I started out. Some of them, I can't take back.

[He thinks of that poor impersonator he hired to go to a mall opening in his stead, when it was his idea, he couldn't even blame Rex. The one shot to death by the Silicon Dragons.]

[The gang that he pissed off.]

[And others. Trusting Knockout. Letting Tana die.]

And I lost someone.

[He'd only been around a little while before that happened. Should've moved faster, should've thought more about that collar on Tana's neck.]

And even though I was a little older when it happened, I was still in high school when I was murdered.

[He meets Jason's eyes with that one.]

So I get why you'd wonder why Bats would let someone else go out in that costume. Especially with the Joker around.

[That look is awfully dark and murderous there.]

But Tim's good. Really good. Saved the world in his civvies just by talking to someone good. When the rest of his friends would've tried punching the problem away - and would've failed. I'd be dead so many times over if not for him, and that means I wouldn't have been around when the world needed a good saving a few times.

So take some comfort in that at least. He earned that costume, and he's also got friends looking out for him. [Even if he's a giant pain in his butt right now.] Ones that can lift semis and break the speed of sound.

[Jason looks back at Kon]

Yeah. I've been seeing some of how he works. He knows how to keep his wits about it at least. He told me on the first day how he had been watching Bruce, Dick, and me for years before he put on the suit.

[Which was telling already how smart and determined Tim is]

He also convinced me to run a bar so we could keep tabs on Central's criminals.

[That particular conversation was loaded given Tim's confession about what he wanted to do with Captain Boomerang]

Ultimately, my problems still lie with Bruce, not with the others as far as I can tell. And as much as I hate that more people have gotten involved since my time with the yellow cape, I know Tim's just trying in his own way to be a good Robin. I know about Stephanie and Damian being Robins too.
