[Closed] Re-Acquaintance
Who: Donnie
purplexing, Huvrye
effiomsfavorite and Leo
faceguy
What:Huvrye finds out he's the proud dad of twins In which Donnie promptly forgot he fell asleep in some stranger's house
When: *waves a shoehorn vaguely*
Where: Huvrye and Leo's apartment, Central City
Content Warnings: N/A
Passing out at the end of a couch is comfortable and all until you wake up. Then the rest of your body dutifully reminds you of what a terrible decision that had been, to which you would argue that you didn't really have a choice when it was you, dear body, that gave out in the first place! Betrayal!
...not that Donnie hasn't woken up from such a position in numerous other instances. Just that this one is a lot softer than a worktable surface. Slowly pushing himself upright, the softshell stretches out his arms before rolling out his shoulders, slumping immediately as his brain kickstarts the rest of his waking routine.
-wait, where is he and who is sleeping behind him.

He is totally stalling while he scrapes together his thoughts. The coffee isn't helping as much as he'd hoped but the pizza's been filling at least.
"I picked up an interesting looking crystal that when paired with my tech allows me to get readings on mystical energy that may imbue specific objects or belong to particular beings."
no subject
He raises an eyebrow at that answer. "Sounds like you got the better end of the deal." A good weapon is important to winning a battle - Huvrye would know, as he is one - but good intel is priceless.
no subject
He has to defend his own honor.

"Big glowy magic swords' are only good for very specific things," he says, waving off his brother's insistence. Also he still has his 'magic rock' but that's salt that'll sting all around so he refrains from adding as much.
no subject
"Big glowy swords are cool," he allows, "but you can't run an op without intel." He looks at Donnie. "You said you put it in your tech?" It's an attempt to divert this from becoming a full-on argument, and he remembers Leo's recommendation from earlier.
no subject
He'll have to learn how to ignore them both at once, it's the only way.Leo is still going to huff and puff about the dismissal from both of them, but he doesn't do much more than that. At least Huvrye is listening to his suggestion.
He just hopes it goes over well.
no subject
"Yep," he replies, tapping a finger against the side of his goggles where the crystal remains housed. "Made the most sense at the time and has since been an invaluable boon to many a mission," he continues, partially around a mouthful of pizza. Idly he lowers his goggles as he glances where the array had been as he looks for any signs of residual traces.
no subject
The goggles make sense - he'd get visual readings from those, and it tracks with why Leo wanted him to ask about them. He follows Donnie's line of sight, guesses what he might be looking for, and palms another warming array in the same spot where the last one had been. He's not sure what Donnie might see through the goggles, but he'll be interested to hear the results.
(What might be more interesting to Donnie are the red lines of alchemy that glow over Huvrye's fingers and the back of his hand, encircling his wrist and traveling up his arm. The naked eye can't see them; the goggles can.)
no subject
But for now he'll let him look at the array. He's actually a little interested in what he'll see, only because Leo doesn't really know how it works so he's curious. Of course, he could probably just ask Huvrye about it more extensively, but right now if it's giving him and Donnie something to talk about he'll let them at it.
no subject
With his goggles he can actively see the heat readings coming from it once it...connects? Anyway it's clear that the array doesn't work properly unless everything's undisturbed, which makes him wonder how precarious a position they'd been in when they were all delving into their father's mind while sitting in circles of chalk. ...not that it had already been a risky mission in itself.
"Kind of like coding... and circuits or wiring..." he murmurs mostly to himself. He lifts his head just a tiny bit as he notices the telltale mystic glow doesn't stop at the array. By then he's got his chin resting on an arm on the counter, but it's hard to tell where his attention might be even though it's clear it's fixated on something from the studious furrow of his brow. He eyes Huvrye's hand, slowly leaning forward as his eyes slowly track up along that arm to- ngenfj what the heck
Abruptly Donnie pulls himself back, flipping his goggles up to rub at his eyes.
no subject
(That Donnie might have looked at him through the goggles is something that hasn't occurred to him.)
no subject
"Donnie? You good?"
He's never quite seen Donnie react to something mystic like that before.
no subject
"Might have to do some reconfigurations, Confluence probably screwed some settings up," he reasons dismissively, even as he shoves a hand against his mouth as another yawn builds up after it.

“…Okay, well, that can wait until later. If you yawn one more time you’ll put me to sleep.”
He’ll ask him about it later - or if it’s really important he might tell him once they’re away from Huvrye.
“Finish eating and I’ll take you to one of the spare rooms.” At least they have furniture, though he doubts it will be to Donnie’s taste - something they can worry about later.
no subject
That still doesn't mean Donnie can't try to protest the suggestion that he needs to go to bed sooner than later, he has ...some kind of image to uphold after all. He musters up his best look of unamusement before shoveling away the rest of that pizza. Never underestimate the appetite of a hungry teenager, even if he is on the verge of falling asleep.

He won't stop him from eating more pizza if he wants it, but he is going to lower his voice and give him a light shoulder bump.
"You sure you're good?"
Might as well make sure, since Huvrye has so kindly left them to themselves again.
no subject
Of course Leo asks that. Donnie doesn't have to fake his answer there at least. "Yeah, 'm good. It's..." He shakes his head. "Probably fine. Don't think I've ever tried looking at alchemy with these, brain's not ready to soak all that in. Maybe it's a dimensional thing."
no subject
Leo wonders if that's all it is, but then maybe it is. Donnie is more used to magic now but it doesn't mean he's wrapped his head around it entirely, so it could just be more than he was ready to tackle when he's half-asleep and still trying to figure out the whole "new dimension" thing.
Either way, Donnie is acting normal enough now that Leo doesn't let it bother him too much. He's eating, so he's fine - Leo Logic(tm).
"It's alright. We'll get you rested up and then your big brows will be ready to handle anything."
no subject
Just as well that Leo accepts that answer. Donnie doesn't like not having an answer and avoiding one would just make it more suspicious. He is also very pointedly avoiding admitting that he is possibly too tired to think right now.
Making a show of pushing himself away from the counter, Donnie drags himself over to the sink to wash his hands off. "Yeah, you better believe it." But first he is going to faceplant so hard on that bed.
no subject
Leo will be very gracious and not continue to point that out, instead wiping his own hands off with a paper towel before moving to the doorway of the kitchen.
"Come on, I'll show you where you're bunking."

"This one's my room," he says as they near said room. The door is open, and if Donnie looks inside he'll get a good idea of why the rest of the apartment is surprisingly clean given that Leo is living in it: his mess has been confined to his room, and as a result it looks like a tornado hit inside. At least they have spare rooms in this ridiculously large apartment.
"Huv's across the hall." He points at the door, then moves to the next one. "So I'm guessing this is where he put you... Yep." The room next to Leo's, which is clean and furnished with a pretty standard bed, dresser, and nightstand. "Here you go!"
no subject
And he's right next door. An actual bedroom and not some cold, empty sewer. Yeah, he can probably get used to this. "Could use more purple," he says, if only because he feels like he's expected to say something. He steps inside, taking a moment to just let it all sink in. Then his feet carry him towards the bed; he doesn't care if Leo's still watching or not, that bed is just too inviting. Donnie flops right onto it. Maybe he'll crawl under the covers later.
