[Open] Transmissions Echoing Away
Who: Donnie (
purplexing) and you..?!
What: Weathering the aftermath of Downburst events while trying to get back into some semblance of whatever accounts for normal around here
When: End of July into Mid-August
Where: Central City
Content Warnings: N/A
Notes: Will match pose pref!
i. Lost Child (Tiny Turtle 1)
It was supposed to be a couple of simple errands, a stop at the hardware store and then an automotive shop for some replacement headlights. Sure, he might've been able to scavenge those but finding purple-tinted ones is considerably more difficult when you can't turn on cars in the junkyard to check.
Donnie tucks his phone away, a corner coffee shop catching his eye. Well, maybe a stop there on the way back. He stuffs his hands into the pockets of his purple hoodie, crosses the street...
...
The first thing that hits him is the noise and the brightness. This isn't the sewers, it's not even an enclosed space. Not to mention there are humans everywhere!
It's the blare of an impatient car horn that sends the suddenly small bundle of purple and green running for the nearest cover in absolute panic. But when you're only about two feet tall, practically everything towers over you and is that much more scary.
The purple-hoodied tiny turtle cowers under a bus bench. Just breathe, just breathe. What did dad tell them to do in a situation like this?
...he has no idea.
ii. Runaway (Tiny Turtle 2)
He has decided that the world above is terrifying. While he's been somewhat surprised that not everyone seems to freak out at first sight of a small, glasses-wearing, green child, not everyone proves to be very nice!
Case in point, a couple of thuggish bullies who have apparently decided it's good sport to chase him down.
For the record, Donnie does not think this is fun! He's in tears as he does his best to get away from them, but he has tiny legs and not the greatest coordination.
iii. What Fun is Force if it Can't be a Little Deadly
For how effectively Donnie had managed to clear out the otherwise abandoned warehouse the last time he and Accelerator had made use of it, the place seems to more or less have become a default space to use for their choice of illicit activities. The tape's probably still stuck in some places from when Leo outlined the layout for their even earlier heist.
Today, it is for the purpose of testing out weapons. Donnie's been working on a few things, one being finalizing Accelerator's laser attachment for his crutch, which Donnie can't really test out in the penthouse.
And then there's his personal project he'd decided to sink some time into ever since those Arcadian guards had popped up and power neutralization was a thing: the resurrection of his beloved tech-bō, Version 2.0. This one's considerably pared down from the original model, sleeker and more subtle. True, it was hard to convince himself that he didn't need a flame thrower, or a saw, or even a third of what his fourteen-year old self had crammed into the original design, but he is pretty happy with what he's come up with.
He's even more eager to put it through the motions.
iv. Frequency - (first come, first serve)
It never fails; you're just walking along, enjoying your fancy cup of coffee when you suddenly get hit by some several hours' worth of memories that you technically hadn't even experienced yet. The sensation's jarring enough that it stops Donnie dead in his tracks.
A foiled heist gone wrong, The Foot Clan again, April dragging some unconscious kid into the Lair, aliens--!
His coffee's all over the ground now but his thoughts are still scattered between places, eyes twitchy like he's dreaming with his eyes open. It takes him a moment before he gasps, feeling like he'd just been submerged underwater.
"Uggh that was really weird and highly disturbing, let's not do that again," he groans, running a hand over his face.

Donnie almost makes it, but, predictably, slips and falls immediately after. Unfortunately, Leo is still too far away - even if he dives, he might not make it.
In a flash he has his sword out and a portal opens underneath Donnie just before he hits the ground, opening up above Leo and dropping him out again, into his arms. Leo has to juggle just a little to catch Donnie without accidentally cutting him, but he manages.
"Gotcha, you troublemaker!"
no subject
Everything happens so fast, and all Donnie sees is a flash of blue light before he's suddenly somehow in Leo's arms. He clings instinctively, but once he's sure he's not going to fall, he looks up at his brother like he hadn't just taken a tumble. He does look a little confused though. How'd he get back here!
"How'd you do that?" He is in awe!
no subject
"Uh, well, that's my cool new superpower!" It'll work. "We all get them when we grow up. I can teleport things."
To demonstrate, he opens another portal underneath one of the books Donnie pulled down, and it drops back out a few feet from them, falling about three feet to thump on the floor.
"Pretty sweet, right? Big bro Leo is just the coolest, right?"
no subject
Leo has super powers?! No fair!
"Me too?" Donnie still looks amazed at that, even if he is kind of bummed that he has to wait until he's grown up for it. But teleportation, now that is interesting! He eagerly looks on as Leo demonstrates for him, bouncing excitedly in his arms as the book disappears and reappears.
"Can we all do that?"
no subject
"Only I can teleport," Leo brags. "But you get your own powers! You can..." Wait, how does he even explain Donnie's powers to little Donnie? Leo doesn't really know how it feels for Donnie to use them, if it's totally different from Leo himself or not. Their powers are about as dissimilar as you can get.
"...You can build pretty much anything you want to with your mind," he finally goes with. "I don't exactly know how it works, but you've made really cool stuff that way."
i just like using this icon
Clearly if they all get powers then Leo's not the only cool one. Which is fine because that means Donnie can be cool too.
He does look a little disappointed though. So he can't teleport? What fun is that? He pouts, at least until Leo pauses in his explanation of Donnie's own abilities. Building stuff? With his mind??? That alone is mind-blowing. "Anything?" Those eyes are practically sparkling behind his glasses.
it's a beautiful icon
"Basically!" Leo knows he has limits, but he has a feeling Donnie will keep overcoming those limits as he learns more. Heck, he already went from not being able to use it at all to building ninpo rocket launchers in a ridiculously short span of time, so who knows what will come next? Maybe Donnie won't need that uranium after all.
"I gotta admit, it's pretty cool..." He cringes. "But do me a favor and forget I said that when you grow up, okay?"
no subject
Making anything he can think of, what a super power! It's exciting to think about!
Donnie looks pleased at this, even if Leo looks considerably less so with his admission. He blinks up at him in the most innocent way that only children at this particular age can flawlessly manage.
"'cuz I'll be cooler than you?"
no subject
Donnie may be tiny and adorable right now, but he's still Leo's brother, and that means this harsh truth must be delivered.
Leo walks toward where Donnie had been falling before. "Show me what book you were trying to get, alright?"
Then they probably need to get all the other books out of the floor...
no subject
Naturally that sort of response gets that pout to resurface. He even folds his little arms. He can be cool! Big brother doesn't know everything!
They start moving again, and so his attention is thoroughly diverted back to the reason he was even being carried by his brother again. He points up at a pretty meaty looking book on air plants that he probably wouldn't have been able to safely remove from the shelf even if he had managed to get up there.
no subject
At least he's over it once they go for the book. Leo looks at the one he points to, and... geez, that's a big boy.
"This one? Think you can even read all this?"
It's said good-naturedly, as he reaches to pull it down. Woof, it's heavy. Holding it with one hand while cradling Donnie with the other almost throws him off balance, but he manages.
no subject
"That one!" Donnie confirms, beaming. He claps his hands together eagerly as Leo makes a grab for it, instantly lurching for it once his brother's got it in his grasp. It's practically an encyclopedia! Maybe it is!
Realistically speaking, he probably wouldn't be able to read it all but he sure looks determined to try!
no subject
Leo has been assuming he'll get big again, and... yeah, he has to, right? If Leo has to take care of a baby brother in this world on top of everything else...
Nope, not worrying about it right now! The book, which Donnie is already trying to get his grubby little hands on.
"Heh, excited, huh? Want to find a table and you can read a little of it now?"
no subject
They're not grubby! He's wiped all the sticky off on Leo!
The suggestion is met with an excited nod as even Donnie can figure that a table will be easier to read a book on than a Leo. Of course that doesn't mean he's going to let go of the book, like he expects it to return itself to the shelf if he's not keeping an eye on it.
no subject
He carries Donnie to the nearest reading table, dropping him off in a chair with the book in front of him.
“Stay here. I’m gonna get the other books you got out.”
no subject
Wee! It's almost like he's on a flying book! Is it possible to put rockets on one?
Leo's toes are preserved and now Donnie and book are safely at the table, so the little turtle nods, even though he's already looking back at the book, swinging open the cover. "'kay," he says distractedly while he turns pages. At least he's definitely not going to wander off again any time soon.
no subject
Leo goes and grabs the little book stack he made and brings them back to the table, settling into the chair across from Donnie. He knows eventually they'll have to leave and he'll have to explain why they can't just go home, but for now Donnie seems excited to look at the books and Leo is happy to let that distract him.
He pulls out his own book again and picks up where he left off. This is... kinda nice, actually.
(He can't let teen Donnie know this happened or he's going to get dragged to the library waaay more often.)
