Descendant:

[Now that Mechanima and the Society have lifted their control over Central City's borders and the teleporters between various American locations are properly working again, it's easier for visitors to come by again.

As usual, Descendant Karaoke Bar and Lounge is open for business and now hoping that they can have more customers again. Civilian or criminal; temporarily depowered or not; people will want a drink and/or blow off some steam.

This month's popular songs include hits such as It's Not Right But It's Okay, Escape (The Piña Colada Song), Don’t Stop Believin’, and Summer Nights.

The Coyote Ugly Nights were successful despite previous travel restrictions so now these events are happening at least twice a week, depending on which employees are available to dance or do extra security. The social media posts advertising the business and showing off performances are still in full swing as well.

Or you can just drop by during a normal day/evening. As Descendant's official owner, Jason can be found doing things like bartending, serving particularly close attention to the VIPs, or just in the reading room taking a break.

Happy(?) Birthday (In-game date: August 16th):

[It's Jason's birthday and it… might be a mixed bag for him. Previous birthdays have wildly varied from depressing, bittersweet, and for a short while, actually happy. This year things with his family could be better but they could also be worse. There's also no doubt that this year he has people he genuinely cares about and who would care that it's his birthday. It gets confusing having so many ambiguous feelings.

In the hopes of minimizing potentially awkward conversations, he's taking a day-off from Descendant, sleeping in a little and perhaps going out later in the day to treat himself to a new book and his favorite foods.

Tim opts to visit Jason during business hours for once, for the novelty of it. He's not exactly dressed for clubbing - he's wearing jeans they found that fit him okay, but one of Dick's shirts and it's a little too big on him, but if this is another temporary change to his age then he doesn't exactly want to sink a lot of money into a wardrobe.

(Maybe he can borrow from TJ if it comes down to it.)

It's pretty clear at a glance that the injury he brought with him wasn't a sprained ankle or something along those lines. It wasn't visible in the selfie he sent earlier, but the forearm crutches are paired with leg braces. And while he's moving okay, there's still clear effort to it.

"I still get a free drink, right?"

Jason at the bar and grins and hides his shock when he sees the temporarily adult Tim with forearm crutches and leg braces. Apparently, his injuries are more serious than Jason thought.

"You look like you could use one so sure," he replies casually.

"Bartender's choice," he says, mostly because he's curious about what Jason will give him. Also, he hasn't actually had a lot to drink since hitting legal drinking age, given that it clashed with his pain management. Might as well be adventurous and see what his big brother gives him.

For all that Jason might be trying to not look too shocked or concerned, it's pretty obvious to someone who knows him, so Tim just gives him a resigned grin. "You can ask."

Jason starts to make a Scarlet Spritz for Tim. He figured his little brother shouldn't have anything with too much alcohol given the pain management he must be doing.

"It happened on the job?" He asks, still trying to maintain his cool. They're in public and can't risk having their conversation be too out in the open.

“Turns out being just Tim is pretty dangerous, too. Especially when I’m threatening the poverty-to-crime pipeline with a new charity.”

He watches Jason make the drink with mild curiosity, trying to guess what it’s going to be before it’s completed.

Jason furrows his brow a little bit as he coats the inside of a coupe glass with absinthe.

"Yeah, that's about right. It happened to Dick too," he says, remembering what Dick said to him the day he arrived in Central City.

“Dick was shot doing charity work?”

That’s something new to him. It definitely didn’t happen in his universe.

"Don't know about being shot but according to him, someone tried to kill him back in Bludhaven after he started a philanthropic foundation," Jason explains before putting rhubarb bitters and ice in a mixing glass next.

“Yeah.” Tim offers Jason a wry grin. “That sounds a lot like Bludhaven. The worst parts of it and Gotham are very resistant to improvement.”

He pauses for a moment.

“ - If this is temporary, and I go back to being fifteen without memory of this, I’m probably better off not knowing some details.”

Jason nods as starts mixing with ice.

"Shit's already messy even while you're at your normal age," he says. "How long is your recovery?"

“Yeah. There’s things he doesn’t need to worry about happening, and things he’s not ready to know yet.”

He sighs and shrugs up a shoulder at the question. “Jury’s still out on how permanent the damage is.”

Jason's furrowed brow deepens. It uncomfortably reminds him of what happened to Barbara.

"How long have you been like that?" he asks.

He raises his eyebrows at the question - it's a little blunt, a little awkward - and then gives a slight shrug. "Months. The bullet kind of fucked up my spine, so."

It's definitely not unlike what happened with Babs.

Descendant, post-16th (OTA)

[It has been a solid few weeks since the blockade against the Guardian Alliance had been dropped. Under normal circumstances, Mayuko would have swept in the Descendant that very same night. But when were things ever normal here?

First, thanks to the Downburst monstrosities, Mayuko’s sense of satiety had been messed up. Going to a pub with all of Nonna’s delectable food around would have been torture. (Whose Italian ex-con grandma was she, anyway? Everybody’s grandma, as far as Nonna was concerned.)

As soon as those symptoms had died off, Japan had been eliminated from the World Cup. There was no way Mayuko was showing her face in town for a while after that.

Once that embarrassment had faded, things in Sunset Falls had gotten weird. More so on the time and memory front, but strangely less than usual in the environment and from the citizens. The hellmouth in particular; she hadn’t been able to get in touch with Eda, whose (speculative) job it was to monitor it. She and her flock had gone to ground after rescuing a newcomer–who knew if or when they’d be back? So there was her potentially bar-buddy gone.

And to top it off, she might have discovered her friend’s identity as a crimelord and gangleader? Against his will?? Not that he’d be mad at HER (Mayuko hopes), but she didn’t feel like immediately stepping into that minefield. A few weeks and several states’ distance should have tempered things…?]

Extrovert

[Mayuko may or may not be showing up with another tall white-haired person in tow. (Not because she feels threatened, no. It’s for Sephiroth’s… research! Of some sort!) In either case, she has a new ‘fit to try out for Coyote Ugly Night: from a strawberry-print top (that might be classified as “cute” in some circles), jewelry, all the way down to her heels. The benefit of new clothes is that… they don’t have trackers in them. By all electronic accounts, Mayuko registers as being in Sunset Falls. Not that anyone would be monitoring that, right? It’s the middle of a shift!

For the moment, she’s just happy to be here. Placing her order, humming along with whatever song is going (even if it’s not Bon Jovi) and in general enjoying the… atmosphere? Yes. The atmosphere. That's her story and she's sticking to it.]

Introvert

[Back in the halcyon days of her late teens and early twenties, Mayuko could have stayed on the karaoke mic and dance floor all night with no ill effects. Nowadays, the duties that come at morning light make that harder. So at some point, she retreats back to the reading room with a drink in hand. That’s not unusual.

What is unusual is that this time, she scopes out who’s in there, if anyone, before going in. Just in case.]

[Despite the weirdness going on this month, it doesn't keep Donnie from hunkering down, even with the potential of weird age-warping among other things. If anything, that just gives him more cause to be out and about. There's data to be gathered, even if he's not quite sure what to do with it!

With things having gone a little back to normal he's forgone any serious attempts to disguise himself aside from his usual purple hoodie, but most people are too busy to really pay the rest of him much attention.

Currently he's up in a tree of all things, goggles down as he people watches while he nibbles on a plain donut. Nothing suspicious here, no sirree!]

[Jason's currently rocking a wet white crop top and tight pants as he dances on top of the bar to Rain on Me. Amongst the crowd, he spots Mayuko and to his surprise, Sephiroth. He's not going to judge though as Descendant could always use more customers.

He waves and winks at the duo]

[Jason had just gotten a chili dog as a birthday treat and was going settle himself on a park bench to enjoy it. Then he notices something off about the tree right next to it and looks up]

Enjoying yourself up there?

[purplexing]

[Maybe it's better to pay closer attention to your immediate surroundings, but Donnie'd gotten so caught up in his observations that he hadn't much considered it. He yelps, windmilling his arms before tipping off the branch. Thankfully he's got his legs hooked around it, so he doesn't take a tumble, but he does now have a good look at who's seen him.

He shoves his goggles up over his forehead as he gives Jason a sheepish grin and a wave.]

Oh hey...

[Jason flinches when Donnie nearly falls off the branch]

Hi. Just hanging around, huh?

[Yes, this is said with a straight face]

[purplexing]

[Twitch.]

Who are you, Leo?

[Shaking his head, Donnie eyes the ground below for some quick calculations before he swings himself back, kicking his legs forward and away from the tree to tuck into enough of a roll that gets him facing upright for his landing.]

[Not much is being left to the imagination, huh? Not that Mayuko is complaining. Radiating peak "you're doing great, sweetie!" energy, she's finding a vantage point back from the mass of thirsty onlookers as Jason continues the routine. She'll thread through as soon as he's done.]

[There's just the slightest smirk at Donnie's retort before he rolls and lands back on the ground]

9.2 on the landing. What were you doing?

Guess I'll take it.

[He makes a show of dusting himself off, pulling his hood over his head.]

Research. There's been weird things happening lately, don't know if you've noticed.

Gonna have to be more specific about which weird things. This last month and half has been a lot.

Have you seen gramps-Leo wandering around some time ago? And, I don't know...related instances that may involve abruptly age-displaced individuals or memory dumps of events that previously haven't been experienced?
