[Open] Generic 80s new wave, beep ba beep ba beep ba
Who: Leonardo Hamato
faceguy
What: Various 80s shenanigans in the first part of the time travel plot
When: late March, 1985
Where: Central City
Content Warnings: none currently
A: Can we go thrift shopping?
[Turns out Leo's credit card doesn't work in the past, a fact that would not be shocking to most people but is a little shocking to the teenager. He just didn't consider it, alright!
Thankfully he did think to keep a little cash on him, though it's not a lot. Still, Leo has been making do his whole life, often with no money at all, so he's not intimidated by the challenge.
He has a skateboard he liberated from some trash, and new dudes purchased for a few bucks from a charity thrift store. He has fully embraced his best 80s style, which is to say bright colors and geometric patterns. Even if he weren't a turtle he would stand out right now.
Leo whirls around in front of the shop, checking himself out in the window and impeding foot traffic.]
Yeah, I can definitely get into this.
B: Crime Never Sleeps
[Sure, Leo is supposed to be looking for Chaos Gate, but that doesn't mean he doesn't have a little time to stop some crime. Especially since he's made contact with Starstruck and his crew, and especially seeing how villains just run amok in Central City 1985.
It's dusk now, and Leo is currently chasing a duo of thieves that just held up a liquor store. He runs over the rooftops to avoid the traffic down below, then portals down to street level, just in front of the crooks. He raises his katana to halt their advance, one raised close enough to one thief's throat to make him stop dead in his tracks.]
Don't mind if I get to the point.
[Unfortunately, the other thief ducks Leo's swords and keeps running. Leo can only glance over his shoulder, irate.]
Hey, no fair! You're supposed to surrender now!
[Little help?]
C: Earth, Wind, Fire, and Turtle
[There are lots of classic 80s things Leo wants to try, but today he has been pulled decisively toward a pretty crowded roller rink that is doing a disco night. Though the place is packed, most of the locals part the way for Leo, given his inhuman appearance.
He's decided not to let it bother him, though, having an absolutely blast gliding around on the rink and dancing to the 70s and 80s hits blasting through the speakers.
As the song ends, Leo changes course and glides to the wall. Maybe you came with him or maybe he just recognizes you, or maybe you were alone and he decided to come pick up conversation. No matter the case, he spins to a stop and leans against the wall.]
This place is - oh, what do they say? ah - totally tubular.

dandywonderous if you'd rather have a different scenario.]]

Starstruck is the reason the guilds were created? Huh, weird. But he's just a normal kid, like them (well, as normal as they are, anyway), so Leo doesn't know how that happened.
Oh. Well. That's a scary name.]
Uhhh... I think I've heard it mentioned? [He shrugs.] My history class hadn't gotten past Columbus making it to South America when we got quarantined.
[And how else is he supposed to learn information about events almost forty years ago?]
no subject
April third, nineteen eighty-five. If I recall correctly, and I'm sure that I am, then that is the day that the world almost ends on the account that things go horribly wrong and it all involves Starstruck.
no subject
Leo lets out a strangled laugh.]
Oh, okay. So the writers are just repeating plot points now.
[It’s a bad joke, but whatever.]
Do you remember what happened?
no subject
...is this how Casey felt?]
He crossed the wrong super villain. Have you seen all the rules the guilds have, and wondered why even the Society has such specific ones regarding targets and murder? It's because this super villain had it out for Starstruck, and his family became collateral.
[He knows that's something he doesn't have to get too deep into. Family is the most important thing they have, and they've always fought hardest for them, for each other.]
...Starstruck was supposed to be killed too. But instead, witnessing what happened to his family sent him off the edge, and pushed his power with it.
no subject
…And that’s going to happen just a few days from now.
[And it makes sense that if Chaos Gate is trying to change the past like the Willow Maiden claimed, she would come back to such an important moment in history. But then what is she up to, exactly? And what are they supposed to do with this information?]
Chaos Gate came back to this time for a reason. I wonder if she wants to stop Godfall… or make it worse.
no subject
[There's so much that could change drastically in this time period if they aren't careful. Not knowing Chaos Gate's plans makes things even more difficult to gauge how anything might go.
Donnie really hates not having enough information. He tightens his arms in front of him, frowning as he runs through possibilities.]
This is before the Confluences started occurring on a regular basis, before they started bringing people in from other worlds. Stopping Godfall would probably at the most, just put off the formation of the guilds and meta registration until something similar happens. Making it worse means the end of the world.

[Leo toes the ground, thinking. Is that really her plan? She seemed pretty distraught, but...]
Then again, no reason we should take the words of a quote unquote god at face value. She could have another motive entirely. Maybe someone she cared about dies in the disaster.
[Was she even born when this happened, though? Actually, he has no idea how old Chaos Gate is...]
Ugh... this would be easier if she would just calm down and talk to us. Or at least talk to Accy.
no subject
Something already happened to the person she cared about. Remember the whole deal with Fantastic?
[He sighs.]
Maybe if we have more of a plan this time around. Accelerator might be the only person she's actually really talked to, given he used to work for her. Where is that guy anyway, have you found him?
decided this happens after the Accy thread, why not
[But he doesn't know how this time and the deal with Fantastic are related, and that's frustrating.]
He's around. And not too happy with us for coming back in time, but then when is he happy? [Big shrug!] He's looking for her, though. Apparently he talked to a young Mechanima too.
no subject
He forces a laugh then.]
Of course he wouldn't. But he can't seriously be surprised about it either!
[Donnie arches a brow. Mechanima... Oh right, some of those guys are old or something back in their time so they'd be around, here.]
Great, because that won't leave any traces of our being here from the future or anything.
[And yes, he's being sarcastic.]
no subject
[Okay so he'll rag on him a little.]
As opposed to me, who has been completely [He draws his hand across the air in a smooth line.] undetectable.
[Other than joining the super hero team of the guy who will almost cause the apocalypse.]
no subject
Ouch. It must be functioning to some degree or he would have had a lot more trouble doing anything, but still...
[He shakes his head.] Good to know he's all right at least.
....
[And here he arches a brow at his brother. "Undetectable."]
Uh-huh.
[He can scoff now, he hasn't caught a crime boss's attention yet.]
no subject
[Presumably also they have a way to get in contact now but idk the thread isn't finished PRETEND THAT'S HERE THOUGH...
Anyway.]
What? You don't believe me?
[The most innocent of smiles here!]
no subject
[Donnie continues to show his clear doubt of his brother's ability to stay undercover.]
'Nardo, I have lived with you all my life, I am immune to that look. And in case it wasn't clear enough; no. Given the namedrop earlier I can only assume you're already pal'ing around with Starstruck.
no subject
[He’s still going to look innocent here!]
Okay, but he did ask me if I could track down a villain for him. His name’s Eclipse, and apparently he has hard light powers.
no subject
[His judging look softens at that. He knows how clingy Leo gets to people. -but ah! Diversion!]
Hard light, huh? That would be a whole lot easier if I had working tech.
no subject
Well we don’t have working tech, so we need a new approach.
Lou Jitsu was always able to track down baddies without the internet. We just need to think WWLJD!
no subject
[But that'd probably only be effective when their quarry's active.]
Hm. Does this guy work alone? How do we find out about someone without the internet? I guess that'd mean like...talking to actual people or something. [Yuck.]
I wonder if there's anything he's pulled lately that's been in the news.
[He unfolds the newspaper, giving it a light shake to straighten out the pages.]
no subject
[It’s worked so well for them before.]
Oh yeah, he mentioned a museum robbery… We could start there!
no subject
Anyway... Hm. A museum robbery- [He pauses briefly as he wonders if it's the same one that got recently exploded in their timeline.] -ah... Oh here it is.
[Donnie folds the newspaper over and taps at an article.]
Pretty recent. Guess we can head over there and check it out.
no subject
[Newspapers are useful! Who knew?]
See, we’re great at this!
no subject
[But at least Donnie looks a little amused. He nods, tucking the thing away.]
Anyway, let's get going.
