[Open] Generic 80s new wave, beep ba beep ba beep ba
Who: Leonardo Hamato
faceguy
What: Various 80s shenanigans in the first part of the time travel plot
When: late March, 1985
Where: Central City
Content Warnings: none currently
A: Can we go thrift shopping?
[Turns out Leo's credit card doesn't work in the past, a fact that would not be shocking to most people but is a little shocking to the teenager. He just didn't consider it, alright!
Thankfully he did think to keep a little cash on him, though it's not a lot. Still, Leo has been making do his whole life, often with no money at all, so he's not intimidated by the challenge.
He has a skateboard he liberated from some trash, and new dudes purchased for a few bucks from a charity thrift store. He has fully embraced his best 80s style, which is to say bright colors and geometric patterns. Even if he weren't a turtle he would stand out right now.
Leo whirls around in front of the shop, checking himself out in the window and impeding foot traffic.]
Yeah, I can definitely get into this.
B: Crime Never Sleeps
[Sure, Leo is supposed to be looking for Chaos Gate, but that doesn't mean he doesn't have a little time to stop some crime. Especially since he's made contact with Starstruck and his crew, and especially seeing how villains just run amok in Central City 1985.
It's dusk now, and Leo is currently chasing a duo of thieves that just held up a liquor store. He runs over the rooftops to avoid the traffic down below, then portals down to street level, just in front of the crooks. He raises his katana to halt their advance, one raised close enough to one thief's throat to make him stop dead in his tracks.]
Don't mind if I get to the point.
[Unfortunately, the other thief ducks Leo's swords and keeps running. Leo can only glance over his shoulder, irate.]
Hey, no fair! You're supposed to surrender now!
[Little help?]
C: Earth, Wind, Fire, and Turtle
[There are lots of classic 80s things Leo wants to try, but today he has been pulled decisively toward a pretty crowded roller rink that is doing a disco night. Though the place is packed, most of the locals part the way for Leo, given his inhuman appearance.
He's decided not to let it bother him, though, having an absolutely blast gliding around on the rink and dancing to the 70s and 80s hits blasting through the speakers.
As the song ends, Leo changes course and glides to the wall. Maybe you came with him or maybe he just recognizes you, or maybe you were alone and he decided to come pick up conversation. No matter the case, he spins to a stop and leans against the wall.]
This place is - oh, what do they say? ah - totally tubular.

dandywonderous if you'd rather have a different scenario.]]

[He'd gone to school with a kid that was a lizard after all.]
no subject
[He knows not everyone enjoys the physiological changes that come along with getting mutated, but personally he thinks it can be pretty sweet.]
So what did you get, if you don't mind me asking?
no subject
no subject
no subject
[Which was, of course, what Leo was going to benefit from now.]
no subject
[Since Leo is indeed going to benefit from that!]
So it sounds like you know a lot of stuff, not just how to be a medic.

no subject
Yeah! I don’t know much more than first aid, so… I want to learn more.
[Leo fidgets a moment, then elaborates.] My brother got hurt recently. Like, really bad hurt. And here we could take him to a clinic that accepts non-humans, but back home… Well, can’t really waltz into an ER with this whole situation.
And we… we can’t keep getting by on dumb luck. If something like that ever happens again, I need to know what to do.
[At least if he knew what to do to get them stable, they could potentially get help from a yokai after, or some well-meaning and open-minded human. But Leo never wants to feel that helpless again.]
no subject
[But yes, he knows what Leo means. He gestures to a nearby hotel, their target. He's got a room and everything.]
You've learned basic Stop The Bleed, right?
no subject
[This is absolutely a joke and Leo’s tone makes that clear. But he does actually appreciate the offer - having people willing to help them is how they’ve survived here so long.]
Direct pressure, clean cloth on the wound, tourniquet if you’ve got it?
[He knows the basics.]
no subject
[And he pulls them into the hotel lobby, makes a beeline for the elevator.]
no subject
Yep, sure thing.
[Ideally he will never be dealing with paramedics, but he remembers anyway.]
no subject
Okay, one thing we're going to need is to get you some reading material. Does that sound okay?
no subject
Yeah, sure. I'll do whatever I have to.
[He sounds minorly bummed about it, because teenager, but he'll do it.]
no subject
[He waits for the doors to open on the elevator and he steps out into the hall.]
I've already good books and charts and some practice stuff in the room. And your own emergency kit.
no subject
He follows David into the hall, his eyes going a little wide. Man, he really wasn't expecting this much help right out of the gate.]
Oh, uh, thanks, man! You went all out.
[He says it gratefully, because, seriously.]
no subject
[Yes, he had been researching on this for a while.]
no subject
Let's do it. I'm so ready.
[And he is. Leo's not always the best at focusing, but when it's something he cares about he can stay in the game.]
handwave the rest?
works for me!
[He'll sit down, and he'll work hard. He may not pick everything up right away, but at least he's eager to learn.]
