[OPEN] Maybe not a literal monster mash

[There may be some changes to the timeline now but Descendant Karaoke Bar and Lounge is still open for business. There are always people looking to have a good time drinking and blowing off some steam with a good song. It doesn’t matter if they’re ordinary civilians or some of Central City’s more... colorful characters. Just be nice to the bouncers and check your weapons by the entrance first.

To reflect the fall season, Descendant has included seasonal drinks like pumpkin beer, apple cocktails, and spiced maple bourbon.

Meanwhile, some of this month's most popular songs seem to be reflecting Halloween, such as Highway to Hell and Monsters. Or maybe you want to do a more classy number like Witchcraft? Descendant looks like a speakeasy after all. And in a total coincidence, Time Warp has also shown up on the popularity chart.

If you drop by at Descendant on a Coyote Ugly Night, you’ll find the atmosphere considerably wilder and wetter. You might’ve even already seen some of the social media posts and videos of the employees performing. They certainly look like they’re having a good time.

Perhaps you’re coming in during a more normal time. Come by for a drink. Maybe rent a private karaoke room or karaoke on stage in front of others if you’re feeling brave. There are some bar games around too.

You can always just people watch as well. Those who are especially observant might notice that some of Descendant’s customers are a bit... furtive as they keep their heads low or quickly scurry to one of the private rooms.

There’s always the reading room too for those who want a more quiet ambiance.

And then there's the very select few who are allowed upstairs in the attic apartment.

Whatever the case may be, Jason will be around. As Descendant’s owner, he’s a busy guy with plenty he has to do]

It's Jason who's bartending when David puts down the two trays of food and asks for Tim. Jason remembers David from talking to him once last year at one of Loki's parties. It was a good conversation but nothing that would've cued Jason to thinking David would randomly show up with a lot of food and asking for one of his brothers.

"What's that? Some presents?" Jason asks, staring at the trays.

David offers a smile to the bartender. He looks almost familiar. A party then? One of Loki's probably.

"One is for Tim, because he said he was eating enough," he says, and his tone says 'and I don't believe that'. "The others, well, to make sure the employees here have something to eat so that he doesn't go home without a full casserole."

Jason snorts. David's tone and answer suggest he's known Tim for a while now. He's even more curious now.

"That's very generous of you," he says. "What'd you make?"

'Known' might be a stretch. Worked together? Yes. But Bart had specifically called them out on how similar they had been. And David knew exactly what those words would mean from him.

"Well this one," he taps the one on top with an envelope taped to it that had the recipe, an ingredients and allergy warning, and reheating instructions, "is for the employees here. It's my Four-Cheese Truffled Macaroni and Cheese. Really lovely. Very rich. I'm sorry if anyone is lactose intolerant. For Tim I made a Picadillo Beef Casserole with Corn-Scallion Biscuit Topping. Very savory, a good meal, covers various food groups. If he takes reasonable portions for someone his size, it should last about eight meals."

Jason whistles and takes a sniff at each tray. He's impressed so far.

"Fancy. And here I am lucky if I can make a half-decent lasagna from the box," he jokes.

So far the food smells good but Jason's wondering if he should get Sleeper to do a quick taste test just in case.

"You a professional chef or something?"

"My father was," he says with a smile. "It's just a thing I like to do."

And he was good at it. Clearly.

"Will you make sure the casserole for Tim goes home with him? I can't ask Bart to make sure of it for me."

"Sure," Jason replies. "How do you know them anyway?"

Because knowing Tim and Bart and knowing they're friends would suggest David already knows what kind of lives they pair have.

"Bart and I are old friends," he says with a smile. This guy might not know that Tim is a Meta. That Bart is a Meta. So he's respecting it.

"Bart asked me once to check in on the guy. This is me doing that."

"Good of you to do that," Jason says. "Not a lot of people would take it this far to check in on someone."

Particularly knowing how rare it is for Tim to show he's anything but fine.

"Can I get you anything? It's on the house."

"Not a lot of people owe Bart as much as I do. And not as many people I imagine have had cause to work with Tim on some projects in the past."

It's as much of a hint of David's meta-status and awareness as he's going to give.

"I am partial to the sweet potato fries here."

It's a good hint to Jason to suspect David could be trusted.

"One order of sweet potato fries coming up," he says.

Jason flags down of his employees and passes on the order for her to take care of before looking back at David. He wants to keep talking.

"So what else do you do besides making fancy casseroles for friends?"

"I'm in computer programming," David says in a way that says 'it's complicated and I don't know how to explain it all'. "Though with how the field can be these days, I'm not sure how likely I am to stay in the field."

So much to reevaluate in his life.

"Yeah? Some big changes seem to be floating around?" Jason asks casually. He can see how computer programming would be another thing David and Tim would talk over. "There always seems to be openings at the Alliance."

"Yeah, there are. But you know, are they really that interesting to join?" he asks with a shrug. "That sounds like a lot of red tape in life."

"True. And who wants that in their life?" Jason says. He then takes another sniff at the food. "Maybe you could do culinary instead."

Exactly. Though David pauses and laughs at the idea at doing culinary.

"Line cook is not my aspiration in life."

Jason chuckles.

"Fair enough. You been in Central for a while now?" He asks.

"When I need it for work," he says. "But I tend to get extended stay places. Kitchenettes are just wonderful."

He's lying of course. Just for now.

"Must be nice," Jason says. "What else do you like to do?"

"I find I'm the sort of man that will try anything once," he says with a smile. Because nothing holds him back when it comes right down to it.

Though as for what he 'enjoys', well, that tends to be something he would want to talk to someone more before he answered. Because he doesn't think it's really worth it to explain that he enjoys keeping his fingers out over all the networks.

"Jack of all trades, master of none?" Jason teases.

It's not that he doesn't respect versatile people though. It's usually opposite, especially given the way he and his family are as vigilantes.

"Master of any one I really put myself into," he says with a smile. "Some people are just like that."

In fact, he's smiling in a way that says he's not bragging. Just stating something he believes is true.

Jason can respect that confidence. He's met more than enough blowhards but David doesn't seem to be that sort of person so far.

"That in itself is a talent. Must be hella useful with whatever life throws at you," he says.

"Oh, it really is," he says with a laugh. "You could say I'm good in a pinch. Some people appreciate that. I appreciate being able to support them at those times."

It's as close as he would get to admitting Metaness.

"Good. Tim needs more people like that in his life," Jason says, having known Tim long enough to know Tim has a bad habit of going into himself too much. The whole family was bad at it.

He also senses that David might be alluding to his meta-human status.

"Can't always lean on his brothers you know," Jason then adds, lightly teasing.
