( not that he's complaining. jason likes bear well enough, it'd also just - make him feel a little bit more like this is a normal interaction between himself and bruce, if bruce only came around so he could leave jason with shit. )
( he is, isn't he? reclusive prince of gotham now in a world where gotham doesn't even exist. yet despite that, his name alone somehow still has meaning with certain individuals. )
It's not disappearing. Since I'm letting you know in advance and plan to be back before New Year's. Or maybe it'll be for New Year's instead, I don't know.
( a beat, he glances off to the side. )
Thought Diana could use an actual getaway.
( and hopefully jason just leaves it at that because which two guys are alike when it comes to feelings and all? these two right here. )
( he opens his mouth, to start sassing bruce - what, is he dating diana or something? taking her on a romantic getaway? except jason realizes two seconds before he manages to get a syllable out that this is exactly what this is.
it makes sense. there was the bit of time when bruce disappeared on diana and how she reacted to it, their shared housing situation, and every other little clue that's been right in front of his face this entire goddamn time. the amount of time they'd both spent in vegas. holy shit. )
( it's not often bruce wayne β the batman β is caught off guard. but here, from those four innocuous words coming out of jason's mouth, he's genuinely just that: caught off guard.
written there all over his face, it's fleeting, a couple seconds maybe, before he's just barely looking to jason and then giving a huff β a slight tilt of his head, gaze elsewhere. )
( he's not denying it, which means it's true. the look on bruce's face says more than words could, and jason's momentarily caught off guard, too, because he hadn't expected that. this is new.
diana deserves better than bruce's bullshit. granted, he's fairly certain she can also handle his bullshit. there's selina to consider, too, but she's - well, she's jason's selina, far as he can tell. and considering how on and off they are back home--he doubts anything would come of it here. bruce is a baby. )
You didn't need to say it, it's written all over your face.
( the problem is, this isn't really something he's properly looked at. or, in the off chance some part of him does start to, much like jason, he shoves it down β figures to deal with it later. he knows she feels for him and he knows he feels for her as well, just. he's bruce. a frustratingly complicated man that makes things complicated when they really don't need to be.
it's why he can relate to jason at times.
licking over his lips, he pushes away from the counter, clearing his throat as hands slip into his pockets. )
I just wanted to see how you were doing. Make sure you're ok.
( because that's something easier to talk about. )
( or about as alright as he's going to get, at least. jason's back home, he's--talked through shit with dick and kyle. he knows he's a mess, that there's no easy fix for how fucked up he is. knows also that despite how fucked up he is, there's a reason jason's like this. that all his fucked up bits also make him who he is: an outlaw, the red hood, the guy who does what the rest of them can't. he's working on the rest of it - the uncontrollable anger that leaves him with little control over what comes out of his mouth, the inability to trust others, to ask for help, to hope they won't abandon him. that they'll show up for him, and he doesn't need to take off before he either breaks them or they break him.
relationships are complicated. trusting people is. and jason's - rolling his shoulders. winces, when it strains the wound in his left. )
regardless, he eyes jason a little longer before he looks over to bear there still with his treat in his bed. it's nice to see he has a spot for himself here β that jason is so willing to have him over like this. )
( jason turns his attention to bear, too. watches the pup go at his bone. it was a good choice of treat, he supposes; he'll need to get some more of those later. )
Guess that means you've decided you're sticking with our mess.
( dropping down into a squat, jason whistles to bear to get his attention - and when he makes his way on over, bone in his mouth, jason reaches to scratch behind his ears. gives him a few good pets. )
You know where to find me. Just bring some food an' he'll be alright.

( not right now. though he figures he'll leave bear with jason when he does. )
Was thinking of Switzerland.

( more a statement than a question, really. jason doesn't care, it's not as if he spends the holidays with the family much at all, if ever. )

( heβs younger, after all, but. maybe heβs wrong. )

( not as set in his ways as the one jason's familiar with, or as old, but. )

Looks like.
( just. you know. don't try and call him out on who he may or may not be dating, thanks. )
I'll get back to you when I know if it's Christmas or New Years.
( with watching bear, he means. )
