Welcome Back (For Given Values Thereof) | Closed
Who: Huvrye
effiomsfavorite, Leo
faceguy, Donnie
purplexing, whoever else I discussed this with
What: Time to find out where the hell Huvrye has been these past few months! It's...not fun.
When: Mid-January
Where: Huvrye's and the turtles' shared apartment
Content Warnings: Captivity, human experimentation, and a little bit of murder to top it off. We have fun here.
The last thing Huvrye remembers clearly is fighting - a malformed Fantastic, a fake version of Leo's and Donnie's older brother, creatures pulling themselves together out of shadow and memory at the behest of a god.
The next thing he remembers is waking up strapped to a table. The older human standing over him registers surprise at him waking up and immediately starts talking. He's been watching over Huvrye for months (he's missing months of time), and the world has shifted (what?), and he's learned so much, and he has so many more experiments to run-
Huvrye's brain stutters and skips at that. He's been experimented on- he's been held prisoner and unconscious for months and he's been an experiment-
The straps holding him down give way easily as he sits up, tries to get off the table-
The human tries to stop him- tries to keep him captive- and Huvrye lashes out-
He'd forgotten how delicate humans can be, especially older ones.
The human falls and does not get back up again. Huvrye rises from the table in his stead.
It doesn't take him long to find the place where his personal effects (his phone, his enchanted disguise, his teleporter, his shirt) are being held. It takes him less time to trash the place and escape. The fire that catches as a result is a nice bonus.
(He probably shouldn't leave that fire burning. He is far past caring.)
He flies until the blind panic subsides; until he can find landmarks he recognizes; until he can make his way back to Central; until he can land half a mile away from Guild housing, duck into an alley to activate his disguise, and walk.
(He doesn't like religion, and he's pretty sure gods don't like him, but even he can admit that his being able to focus through the remnants of said panic long enough for his disguise to stay in place for the entire walk is a minor miracle.)
He makes it back to his apartment. He locks the door behind him. He lets his disguise drop. He- He-
He starts to shake.
There are a thousand things he should do, now that he knows how much time he's lost, how far the world has moved on without him-
But all he can do is stand in his entryway and tremble as his brain clicks and runs uselessly, waiting for the last of the panic to pass.

Or maybe it’s an intruder, and he should be ready for a fight.
He’s ready for just about any possibility - except for Huvrye, standing in the entry looking seconds from a panic attack.
He’s… he’s here.
He’s back. He’s alive. And he must remember them, if he’s come to this apartment.
The last time Leo saw Huvrye, he’d been recovering from overusing his alchemy in the fight against the Shining God; that’s what they told him, anyway. Leo had come by to check on him like he did at least once a week, reminded the guy taking care of him to call if anything changed…
And then he’d gone back in time, and after he came back the world shifted and the confluences came back and Huvrye was just… gone. Probably lost when the timeline fixed itself, sent home in the Confluence.
That’s what he’d been told.
But now here Huvrye is, in their apartment, looking panicked and shaky in a way Leo hasn’t seen since that night he had the nightmare. Leo doesn’t know what it means, but he’s happy and scared all at once.
“Huvrye!”
He crosses the distance between them in three quick steps, and he can’t help but reach out, to hug, to grab on to him, to make sure this is real; it’s only Huvrye’s obvious panic that stops him from throwing himself onto the man.

Leo is still here-
He reaches out without thinking, pulling Leo to him and wrapping the turtle in a tight hug. He's still shaking - he doesn't know when he's going to stop shaking - but he's got more than enough strength in him for this.
no subject
Leo returns the hug fiercely, arms wrapped tight around Huvrye like he might disappear if Leo lets up. He has so many questions, but he lets them wait, instead holding on and hoping Huvrye will calm down if he knows it’s okay, he’s safe.

He's tired, hungry, low on aura - he doesn't know how he was kept alive while he was held captive, and panicked flying hadn't done what remained of his aura reserves any favors. He's going to need to eat and rest soon, if he can ever trust that he won't lose another few months the next time he closes his eyes.
His breath hitches at the thought. Months. So much can change in a week, let alone months. That's so much time for things to get so much worse-
"Are we safe here?" The question is quiet, asked with a voice rough from disuse, and insistent. Are Fantastic's ilk still running the Alliance? Is Huvrye still a wanted man? Is Guild housing still suspect? Leo's too smart to just stay here if it's dangerous, but he may have just dropped by for one reason or another; either way, Huvrye needs to know for sure.

“Yeah, we are,” he says with confidence. “Me and Dee have been holding down the fort. Atomight is in charge of the Alliance again, and… well, things have been pretty crazy while you’ve been gone, but it hasn’t been anything we can’t handle.”
Well, the whole Shining God situation is iffy, but it’s not an imminent threat, so they have time to talk about that later.
“Here, you should sit down - do you need anything? I can order food.” He starts to tug Huvrye toward the couch.

Things have been crazy needs an explanation - everything Huvrye has missed needs an explanation - but he lets himself be led towards the couch, sinking into it heavily once he gets there. He should take care of this himself - he shouldn't make Leo take care of him - but-
But he's barely keeping himself together. He can let Leo do that much while he tries to get his feet under him. "Food would be great, and then I have a lot of questions."
no subject
It’s not a surprise that he has a lot of questions. Leo will try to get him all the answers.
He sits down next to Huvrye, worming into his side and getting comfy. It won’t take long for him to get food ordered, whatever Huvrye wants - and once that is sent in, he refocuses.
“How long have you been back? …Were you even gone?”
Leo doesn’t think Huvrye would just abandon them without saying something, but this whole situation is just weird.

There's a burger and fries on its way - and Huvrye isn't going to be able to eat a burger without thinking of bodily injury at this point - before Leo asks his first question, and Huvrye holds him a little tighter. "I don't think I was," he says quietly. He'd remember being back in Sestrinn. He'd remember seeing Yin again. "The last thing I remember was fighting that corrupted Fantastic, and then I woke up strapped to a table. How long ago was that fight?" Months, he knows, but how many?

Huvrye saying he woke up “strapped to a table” makes Leo jolt, though. So Huvrye was here… and he wasn’t safe. And Leo wasn’t even looking for him…
Leo feels a wave of shame, and he shudders against Huvrye.
“That was… five months ago, I think. We spent some time back in the eighties and that messed up my sense of time, you know?”
Or he doesn’t. Leo tilts so he can look at Huvrye better.
“You were exhausted after the fight, and we didn’t know how to take care of you. The Society took you to take care of you while you were in stasis, and I visited you a lot.”
He had, back then. The guy taking care of Huvrye told him Huvrye was recovering, but it was just slow. Then…
“Then we went to the past, and… changed some stuff. And after that, the timeline had to… fix itself? And… and a bunch of people disappeared, and things were different, and you were gone and I thought…”
Thought he went home. But he was strapped to a table.
“Huv, I’m sorry. I’m really, really sorry.”
He hugs on tighter, even though he feels like Huvrye should push him away. He wasn’t even looking! He left Huvrye alone… All this time…
lmk if this wildcard works? If not, plurk at me!
In his experience of this place, the people you care about who leave don't come back. To know that Huvrye was meant... Well, Mark didn't know what. But it was important. Sure he'd been making more of a connection with Leo over time, but that wasn't a replacement for the friend they had both lost.
Hopefully he can be forgiven for pounding at the door.
