[ welcome to the opherium. open to all metas, provided you’re up to the dress code. so make sure you’re dressed to the gills with your fanciest clothes or you might just be asked to leave. you’re ushered into a grand hall. there are appetizers like shrimp cocktails and little quiches placed on large tables for you to nibble on and champagne glasses being passed around by waiters. located in the middle is a large chocolate fountain for all you dessert lovers (loki. it’s for loki). grab yourself a drink and go hit up a familiar face. ]

( ii. dance dance )

[ and of course, once the mingling and networking is done, the staff come to clear the chairs away and leave plenty of room on the dance floor. the lights go dim, casting soft shadows against the wall. slow waltzes begin to filter through the hall as gently encouragement to go find a partner, maybe hold them close, enjoy a little . . . company and more.

or maybe you just want an excuse to step on someone’s foot. equally valid. in fact, there might be a little magic in the air that tugs you towards someone you want to be with . . . ]

( iii. star gazing )

[ the party is winding down. maybe you’re ready to go back. curl up on bed after a late night with drinks and dancing. or perhaps you’re feeling a touch of wistfulness, a need to seclude yourself after all that jazz. consider then, finding yourself a nice quiet corner on the upper levels of the theatre, where there are some nice balconies for you to collect yourself.

and there are always the stars to keep you company. ]

[ in the moment that kon is choking, coughing and tearing up as he tries to clear his airway, there's a sudden and hearty *SMACK* to kon's back that should dislodge anything that's left in there. if or when he looks over, he'll see bruce staring down at him like... well, bruce. ]

Is there? Someone could trace you back to me, if they really wanted to.

[ he looks out towards the city, eyes narrowed and focused. ]

You seem like a good person, David. If you really don't want to be a part of this, I wouldn't blame you, but if there's any part of you that looks out at the injustices in the world and can't sit by, then safety isn't always a luxury you'll have.

[ It helps. Kon finally clears his throat and reaches for his water. After gulping it down, he looks up to see the looming and looks temporarily cowed. ]

Sorry, sir. Didn't mean to make light of your recent economic troubles.

[ The thing is, Kon has always been able to give Bats a bit more attitude than many of his friends. Like that time he got up in his face about refusing to leave Batgirl alone to take the heat after they screwed up with Dr. Sin. ]

[ It's also just a Super skill, a slight immunity to the grimness. Kon's poked and prodded at Robin despite his seriousness for years, and Clark always talks about Batman with a genial good will like he's not intimidating at all. ]

[ Clark is also able to do that very dry good-natured thing, where he's gently tugging on someone's pigtails by being very earnestly helpful. When Kon does it, it's a bit more impish, there's a bit more mischief, but he's learned to imitate Clark very well over the years. (It helps that he's gone back to the source of that light, sunny sense of humor, dry as wheat, by spending time with Ma and Pa.)]

[ So it's with a near-perfect approximation of Clark's dry helpfulness, his eyes twinkling the same way, when he asks: ]

Do you want some help sneaking some out? We can put 'em in our pockets.

[ The thing is, if he answers yes, he'll actually help do it. He's done it before. It's rare they ever go out to eat anywhere nice, so when they do, Ma tries to sneak out as many rolls in her purse as possible, while Pa laughs about it, like it never gets old.]

Do you think Loki will kill me if I adorn his statue with a Doctor Strange costume?

[he corrects her gently. There’s still time for mischief even if he’s gotten cold feet now.]

I wish I'd known or I'd have brought an mp3 player and some USB speakers. Then the teenagers could've snuck up to have an even more exclusive party on the roof.

Now there's a good idea for another day. Maybe not on this roof, but still.

[ It's an actually earnest question, not a sarcastic one. He has no idea what it's like to be a good (just fairly powerful) let alone being the god of a thing. ]

It sounds like something where it's easy to get typecast.

She loves when you're there, she really does do the full grandma thing and lives for when people want seconds and thirds.

[ She's always delighted when people like her cooking. ]

I could teach your friend to bake. Between Ma and...someone else, I know how to do it now.

[ He doesn't know how to explain Lophi and Gemworld. Bart may be from an alternate universe, on account of the time in another world, but he's also from slightly in the past. What if he tells him the future and it leads to a change that blips him out of existence during one of the reboots? In the current timeline back, it seems like they never came to exist. Being in other dimensions possibly saved them.]

[ to his chagrin, many times over. now he's more calm about the whole thing. ]

We do like fancy parties. Asgardian ones were always full of revelry and light.

It's not a bad thing to know who you are. Or at least what you are. [ He taps his chest, at the symbol that currently isn't there. ] I usually wear a symbol when I'm superheroing. Kind of a family thing.

But I inherited it a weird way. I'm kind of a non-traditional addition to the family.

It means something important and gives people all these expectations. But it's important to me, and it was something I came into the world with an attachment to, so it's been like a whole thing of...

How do I make this mine? Like fit the role and the expectations but still be myself? Be a version of myself I like?

Like I said before, it's a work in progress, but I think I'm getting there.

I suppose I know a little about that. I was . . . adopted so to speak. It took a long time for me to accept that.

[ the lying didn't help. being told for centuries that the frost giants were monsters definitely didn't help. and while loki hasn't cleaned all of it away, he has come to terms with some of it. ]

So what are you "getting" to be?

He embarrassed me and must suffer.

[ Waving his arms! What's the big deal? ]

That seems as good a reason as any to punish a boy!

Something more than my DNA. Or like...a bunch of other people's parts.

[ A pause. ]

I'm a clone. Half my DNA is alien and comes from one of the greatest superheroes in the world, half is human comes from one of his worst supervillains, his archenemy.

Superman told me I could wear his symbol and do good guy stuff, Lex wanted me to destroy Superman. And he wanted me to hurt people.

[ He talks about it like it isn't one of the worst things ever to happen to him, but the truth is... he's largely moved past it. To the point he can casually talk about it. It's still a whole thing, trying to not feel bad because of the Luthor connection but it's something he's coping with. ]

So it's figuring out how to wear the symbol my way. And be something that isn't just an extension of either of them.

It's okay, this place is Hela-stressful.

[ He frees one of his hands from hers and, after a drunken wobble on the spot while thinking, pokes his tongue out the corner of his mouth in deep consideration. ]

Okay, I think I've got it!

[ Green light shimmers around Doreen with a PZAZZ!! crackle-hiss-pop, and her dress transforms into a floral ballgown with a cute miniskirt (and shorts underneath, always ready for action!) and bustle of flowers upon which her tail can rest and not get dirty on the floor as she dances around. If she dances. Whatever. ]

And done!

[ this prompts a wry chuckle in loki. ]

So you had one good "father" and a terrible one. In that sense, you got lucky.

I had two terrible fathers. They simply wished for my death at different points in my life. I suppose I have largely accepted one over the other. I am an Odinson.

No father. Supes and I... it kinda hasn't been that way. He's one of the best dudes I know but I sort of was mostly raised by my friends, to be honest.

At least until he had some family take me in. So biologically, sure, but...

[ Pa's been more of a father figure. For a while Dubs was, but Dubs...just left. Like Guardian. Pa is the one that's stepped up the most, though. He's the one that stayed. The only time he'd left was when he was temporarily dead but reality fixed it. ]

I hope you know your dads suck. Nobody deserves that.

[ it's said casually, nonchalant. ]

[She lets out a quiet little snort, standing up on her tiptoes to comb her fingers through his hair, untangling it from the horns. She's a little unsteady as she does it, but she gets the job done.]

Point. So what's this about secret identities?

[ His head tilts down to let her fix his hair and he snorts, snickering with mischievous glee better suited to the smaller Loki. ]

Oh, my god. I know so much. I was going to tell Billy but I think he's more wasted than us and he'll go and tell them he knows, so.

[ Bursting to tell someone, he blabs in a rush, ]

I swear I didn't care at first about their identities but here we are, this is not my fault. Frankly he shouldn't have been so dismissive if he didn't want me to go snooping! It's Bats' fault. [ Deep breath!! ] Batman is Bruce Wayne and he has a son called Jason who fell into some kind of pit for five years, I guess? But he went back to Gotham as the Red Hood, just not like the one from our world who has a magic cloak! And he was replaced! [ THE DRAMA OF IT. ] Replaced in whatever role he played alongside Batman with a boy called Tim, which might have been "Robin", only Batman didn't just use them as sidekicks because this mentalist went full-on Odin and adopted them!

Batman also has a birth-son called Damian who I think is trained to be something too but I was trying not to sneeze into my champagne at that part, and there are some girls involved called Cassandra and Stephanie? Jason is a killer, like the Punisher? Maybe. I was invisible on the balcony while they were talking so I couldn't, like, ask about this shit.
