[ welcome to the opherium. open to all metas, provided you’re up to the dress code. so make sure you’re dressed to the gills with your fanciest clothes or you might just be asked to leave. you’re ushered into a grand hall. there are appetizers like shrimp cocktails and little quiches placed on large tables for you to nibble on and champagne glasses being passed around by waiters. located in the middle is a large chocolate fountain for all you dessert lovers (loki. it’s for loki). grab yourself a drink and go hit up a familiar face. ]

( ii. dance dance )

[ and of course, once the mingling and networking is done, the staff come to clear the chairs away and leave plenty of room on the dance floor. the lights go dim, casting soft shadows against the wall. slow waltzes begin to filter through the hall as gently encouragement to go find a partner, maybe hold them close, enjoy a little . . . company and more.

or maybe you just want an excuse to step on someone’s foot. equally valid. in fact, there might be a little magic in the air that tugs you towards someone you want to be with . . . ]

( iii. star gazing )

[ the party is winding down. maybe you’re ready to go back. curl up on bed after a late night with drinks and dancing. or perhaps you’re feeling a touch of wistfulness, a need to seclude yourself after all that jazz. consider then, finding yourself a nice quiet corner on the upper levels of the theatre, where there are some nice balconies for you to collect yourself.

and there are always the stars to keep you company. ]

As much as Balthier loves pretty words, he's not used to being on the receiving end of ones that have any substance to them. So this time he curls around David to reach his lips for a proper kiss, one that's demanding and breaks with a sigh.

"You always find me." Even when he can't find himself.

They are making a show of themselves, and it's downright decadent. And David feels so welcomed in that moment, that embrace. He feels this so acutely, his love.

What would you count as swat-worthy behavior?

[ There's a possibility that he would not say no a tiny bit of swatting. He did get the feeling that he was being shook up like a snow globe to see what would happen. ]

And would that even bother him? I couldn't move him at all.

Balthier will give David the world as often as he can.

"If we keep this up I'm going to forget we're in public and start undressing you here," he whispers in David's ear. He's grinning mischievously as he pulls back. "And I think that you in that dress deserves a good deal more attention before that."

Because tonight is also about David feeling comfortable and supported out in the world as it is with Balthier. It's important to him that David feel safe being who he is.

"That would be a problem," David whispers right back. But he can accept that his boyfriend is definitely trying to get into his pants. Metaphorically. But he has to laugh at his partner.

"Later. When we go home, you can do whatever you wish with me, beloved."

[Kate holds up a hand and starts ticking the reasons off on her fingers.]

If he starts testing you or pushing you—like he's trying to get inside your head. If he lies too much. If he starts twisting the conversation around to mess with you or confuse you. If he starts dragging you off into trouble you don't want to be a part of.

[Actually—]

If he starts making you squirm at all, tell him Kate said she'll kick his ass.

They both know David loves when Balthier is this forward about wanting every kind of touch. And Balthier enjoys being made to wait and flustering David in the meantime.

"Whatever is a strong word. I'll hold you to it." He gives on last kiss, chaste on the cheek. "Go dance, and I see friends who want to say hello. And I shall make everyone jealous again when I am the one taking you home, my moon."

Oh he adores it, the desire, the welcome it gives him, and the possessiveness. David needs this sort of thing.

"Please do," David laughs. "But I'm going to take a few minutes out with the stars. Come find me when you want to go back."

Total rip-off, right? No flash of light, no giant portal to trip through, no one punching a hole through dimensions... I just showed up, and now I'm stuck. Again.

Then... why the waltz?

[ Tim is genuinely curious now, and risking being impolite to hear the rationale. ]

Isn't it exactly what everyone would expect at this sort of event? You could've gone for something wild or avant-garde. Hire a local punk band.

For now. Because, at some point, someone's going to spot me and come over to say hi. And, if you're still being this friendly, they're going to drag me off to a corner to get all the dirt. They tell me it's an unwritten rule of friends and fam.

[ Fam, not family. His family has the good graces to just spy on each other lovingly, which is what Tim does as well. ]

I'm going to hope they're all distracted by the chocolate fountain.

[ loki cocks his head. ]

My impression is that these things are considered outdated by mortal standards. Besides, I know my audience. To set the stage, you have to appear graceful.

Would you like a bit of harmless gossip to hold back from them?

[ When was that wall nearby? How did Loki get Tim backed up by it? He leans on his forearm above Tim, mischief in his eyes but it's the conspiring kind; not the mean sort. ]

How about a reason to get one over on your fam?

Waltzes are outdated, but expected when you're trying to cater to the pocketbooks of the uber rich.

[ Tim ponders this aloud. ]

I suppose it would depend on if you thought you would have more success with a few large donations or a large number of small donations. It can go either way, especially if you aren't a registered non-profit. ... if they have non-profits in this world.

If there is one thing I do know, it is how to cater to those in power.

This will look the part that appeals to them.

[ Tim gulps when his back hits the wall, suddenly feeling dwarfed, but not threatened. Remember when he thought it wasn't safe for humans to get too close to gods? This, right here, is what he meant by that.

But Loki's offering information of a sort, so Tim doesn't duck away. He will, however, maintain this distance and no closer. ]

It depends on the gossip or reason. If it's fun and harmless, and everyone will laugh when it comes out, then sure.

[Kate should totally leave Bruce alone. Definitely. Especially with how jumpy Damian is right now. But, okay, here's the thing—she's curious, and it's either sidle up and go talk to him or awkwardly try to ignore him the entire night while sneakily stealing glances at him. The tipsier she gets, the harder that's going to be to pull off.

It's interesting that you bring that up. You know that I might not be the Bruce you know, don't you? If you haven't been able to tell already, that is. You've always had a talent for reading people.

[ he looks around. bruce was never inclined in the magical sense, so as far as he could tell, this was just an ornate room filled with paintings and sculptures. for some beings in his universe, their power was derived from their worshipers. he wondered if loki didn't mean the same thing. ]
