[ if you're by the pool you'll find Thor there on occasion-- not at all bothered by his eyepatch or metal arm as he lays by the pool (he's broken one deckchair already) reading whatever gossipy magazines are around.

the restaurant is somewhere else he'll be often found, consuming as much food as the kitchen staff are willing to produce. it's nothing on Asgardian fare, but Thor won't hold it against them. the whole roast pig is well cooked, and he'll happily share it with anyone else who's around and looks hungry or just like they want to talk

he's also available in his rooms -- both to visitors who he's invited up, or to other new arrivals who might accidentally have been assigned to as well? sorry you'll probably walk in on him in just a towel after a shower but that's fine. ]

Is that all you've been doing? Drinking?

[ thor has been catching up on the local news and gossip, making contact with those he thinks he knows from home. but loki will think what he wants, in his experience, whatever Thor might say ]

What do you mean? It's just Earth.

[ Thor looks away a moment to signal to one of the pool attendants that yes he wants two more drinks, thanks.

There's neither Guild nor Society on the Earth I'm familiar with. We've the Avengers-- various versions, last I checked. And what of the broader universe? Do the branches of Yggdrasil grow here as they do back home? Can Asgard be reached-- or does it not exist at all?

[ ah. loki merely shrugs. ]

If they do, it's a closed circuit. There's no way in and out of this universe save for the confluences. I looked for the paths and the branches. I found nothing.

[ thor doesn't take him at his word, because taking any loki at their word is risky business, but it would make sense. ]

So we're stuck here, for the time being. Worse places for it.

I don't have anywhere else to go anyway.

[ thor's eyebrows go up a fraction-- but stops to accept two tall glasses of drink with pineapple rings and bright umbrellas

[ it might be a stretch, but thor holds his glass up to his brother -- just to see if he'll toast him back. ]

[ loki's throat feels tight. too tight. but he silently toasts to that. better to have one world at least, even if it's not the world you wanted. ]

[ thor can't help but notice this brother's unusually still tongue, and feels entirely like a fool. is it genuine? is this he simply having his heartstrings tugged on? he can never tell ]

Well, I'm dead. Asgard is destroyed. It's not like your universe where you can simply bring things back.

[ or would bother to do so. ]

[ thor seems genuinely surprised to hear that. ]

Have you ended the cycle of Ragnarok?

Mmm. Thor and I destroyed Asgard in order to save our people.

Some things remain the same, then.

[ another thoughtful sip of his drink ]

I take it you've heard how the child Loki who is here came into being? How did you end up dying without a plan for yourself?

In my experience, Loki is good at a great many things other than dying.
