BRUCE; DETECTIVE COMICS 🦇

[ now with a routine going, bruce has started to make his-- and batman's-- presence known; sooner or later he was going to find out if that was a good thing or not. but in the daytime as bruce, he wakes up and buys breakfast: usually fresh fruit from stalls in the old chinatown around peterboro and some kind of rice and egg from one of the random hole in the wall restaurants along the road. after breakfast, he'll grab a coffee from a café as he heads further into the city. after his first big brush with the d'amico's, he notes the streets are cleaner, but not because he's put a dent in their operation, but because they were being more cautious than before. either way, it's a win-- he's made an impression. for now, that was good enough for him. and then there was logan, but he wasn't quite sure what to make of that variable yet. do you join him for coffee? catch him eavesdropping? catch him catching you catching him eavesdrop??? but if you don't decide to creep, you might also find him helping out at soup kitchens and clothes donations around the city. helping cats out of trees. you know, batman stuff. ]

BATMAN; SHADOW OF THE BAT 🦇

[ ...then night time comes, and the real work begins. he uses it to take the opportunity to test out the new batcycle he's spent the last few months working on. the batmobile was coming along, but wasn't quite up for the road yet. regardless, the bike was working great, and made ti's presence known by the sheer noise it made cutting through the streets at night. the thin eye slits of the headlights cut through the night shadows like the smaller ones on his cowls, and people begin to notice him more, going after chases, expanding his area of operation, the myth of the batman. when he wanted to keep it more personal when it got really late, when everything was quiet, you might find him on the rooftops. in gotham, he was fortunate enough to know who to expect, but this wasn't gotham, and he knew he could really run into anyone up here. join him as he broods, beats up criminals, or maybe decides to break up another one of d'amico's illicit drug rackets. ]

[Once again, it's nighttime and Jason's jumping rooftops across Central City.

Regardless if it's Gotham or Central City, Jason knows by now to always anticipate Batman when he goes out at night. Here and there he's caught glimpses of the man. He's almost like a shadowy cryptid. Jason knows that's intentional. Bruce is always devoted to crimefighting and his code.

Jason hasn't talked to Bruce since the night at the Opherium. It's not really a big loss for him though as he would rather limit the emotional family conversations. Still, Jason can't help but be curious when he spots Bruce on a rooftop ahead of him. It's clear he's about to break up something]

[ or was this planned? and not by batman. the armed goons surround him between rooftops-- d'amico's men, who want to put a stop to him before he causes them any more trouble. from a distance, jason will see how bruce works at a distance, dropping a smoke bomb so he can take cover and pick them off. but there are a lot of them coming, and even more who yell from the street below as they rush into the building to storm the rooftop...

bruce is in there somewhere, but where? and can he handle that many people? ]

[All these years and despite all the pain, damn. Jason still loves watching the man work. Jason turns on the infrared vision in his helmet so he can have a better view of Bruce fighting in the smoke. So far, so good. He's more or less still in peak fighting form.

But the yelling from the ground level draws Jason's attention and he looks down from the edge of his rooftop. Huh. It's a feistier-than-usual mob tonight]

Aww. Batman made some nice friends.

[Jason suspects this is retaliation for whatever case Bruce has been working on. Not that he could really blame his adoptive father. So far, the scum living in Central seem pretty similar to the ones living in Gotham.

Using parkour and the building's rusty fire escape, Jason quickly makes his way down to meet the goons still on the ground. Bruce is a strong and skilled fighter but even he has his limits and there's no way he has the same amount of arsenal he would have back in Gotham. Besides, Jason has time on his hands, and he doesn't want to let Bruce have all the fun]

[ bruce crashes through a window, narrowly avoiding the barrage of gunfire. his suit is built to take punishment, but not quite like this. he immediately meets some of the men coming up the stares and decides to deal with them immediately. fighting them in the stairs would be more manageable than staying flaked on the rooftop. with his vision reduced by the fists and legs flying in the large skirmish, he doesn't see jason as they both work their way into the middle.

once they're there, bruce's eyes widen. he wasn't expecting jason here, but his batarang is already poised in the air at him... seemingly. until he yells and fires it off directly at jason's face... and the person coming up behind him. ]

Get down!

[Jason doesn't think before he ducks. Even after all these years, the knowledge on how to work alongside Batman is like muscle memory for him. If he says get down, then you better get down. It's literally life or death.]

How come I wasn't invited? This looks like fun.

[Not that life-or-death situations always stops Jason from being a chatty support. He kicks another goon down the stairs and watches him tumble down with the others like a line of dominos]

[ a duck, a parry, they choreograph easily despite time and universes separating them. eventually, they're back to back, with more coming. but he was willing to have a little fun. there were no civilians at risk, and he did want to send d'amico a message, after all... ]

Keep your guns holstered... and maybe it will be.

[Jason finds himself feeling nostalgic when they're back to back. It feels like when he and Bruce fought together against Black Mask's assassins. Meanwhile, the adrenaline and excitement of the fight is keeping him temporarily distracted from the resentment and anger he usually holds against his adoptive father]

Heh. Like I need my guns to take them down.

[Reinforcements then charge in. Though not using his guns for now, Jason's still a swift and efficient fighter. It's not too different from when he was a Robin. Plus, in a small space, he and Bruce have the advantage. There are only so many goons who can charge in.]

Show me.

[ the sound of bruce barreling down the hallway at his assailants rumbles the floor and make the cheap, narrow hallways shake. dust loosens from the corner when he's in the thick of it, brutally efficient with blows meant to go through people.

...and then he's tackled through the wall into the next apartment with a loud crash and the collapsing of framing and drywall. seems like they have a few metas with them. ]

[The sound of that last crash gets Jason's attention as he punches out another thug. He looks up to see Bruce having crashed into the next apartment by a meta goon.

Damnit. Hoping it doesn't become like a Bane fight, Jason pulls out his Taser and strikes that goon in the back. He's not going for a lethal strike for now but the voltage is hopefully high enough to get him to back away from Bruce]
