[ Much like Loki's last party-venture, this is set up very much in the same vein. a large ballroom for dancing needs. Tables and waiters passing around hors d'oeuvres and drinks. At the entrance of the ball room, there’s a fancy mask waiting for you if you don’t have one already. There’s a strict dress code for the event this time and Loki expects everyone to dress accordingly.
The masks also have a spell attached to them. They’ll afford you complete privacy. No one will recognize you under the mask. Unless, of course, you take it off and let them know. Perfect for the party guest who may want to indulge without causing a fuss. Hit up a partner and see where the evening takes you.
This event wouldn’t be complete without candy, of course. There are candies arranged on the tables in all types and colors. In front of them is a small description regarding each kind of candy. Be sure to read them carefully, as Loki has added a little . . . extra to the sweets, to give them a little . . . zing. ]
🍫 White Chocolate: For those who needs a little honesty ( truth effect )
🍷 Alcoholic Chocolate: For those who need to loosen up ( slight aphro effects, please mark headers accordingly and communicate! )
🍬 Sour Candy: For those who are tired of being nice ( shorter tempers )
🍓 Fruit Candy: For those who need to open up ( increased generosity )
If you have a question or comment to direct at the host, Loki is by the entrance dressed in red and gold with a mask to boot. he’s instantly recognizable, compared to the masked attendees. ]
Welcome.

It doesn't matter much in his case, because he arrived in this world only a few weeks ago, and it's the first time he's attended one of these parties. Practically no one knows him, and he also doesn't know anyone, which is why he's attempting to socialize. The key word being 'attempting'.
He has to politely, but insistently, decline the invitation of one of the guests who clearly has had one too many alcoholic chocolates. In his haste to put some more distance between the person and himself, Jayce turns and almost collides into Jason, stopping himself at the last minute. ]
Oh, sorry, I was, ehm...[ He looks briefly over his shoulder, and grimaces briefly. When he faces Jason again, Jayce gives him a smile and blurts out. ] Would you like to dance?
no subject
Sure.
[His voice is confident, calm and probably just loud enough for the buzzed guest to hear]
Nice robes by the way.

[ The new smile Jayce offers him is both more relieved and sincere. He motions towards the dance floor, giving a small bow. ]
Do you have a preference? I don't mind either way. [ About being the one leading the dance or following. Jayce is adaptable. ]
no subject
No preference. Been a while since I did this though. These kind of shindigs aren't a regular thing for me.
no subject
[ Jayce gives him a reassuring smile and if Jason really has no opposition, he will take the lead as they move around the other couples. ]
I'm Jayce, it's nice to meet you. [ Someone clearly really doesn't care much about the whole anonymity thing. He doesn't ask for the other man's name, though, just in case Jason does want to play up the mystery. ]
no subject
The same. It's nice put at least one name to a face tonight.
[Jason catches that Jayce didn't ask for his name so he decides not to give it for now. He only just met the man and would rather get to know him more first before deciding if he should give his name or even just an alias.
At the mention of "duties," and seeing that Jayce's outfit seems less of a costume and possibly more like proper formalwear or a full dress uniform, Jason takes some guesses]
So you're what? Military? A diplomat back home?
no subject
It is. I like to get to know people, and since I'm so new here, I wanted to socialize a little bit, but the masks make it very difficult.
[ That's understandable, and Jayce doesn't seem bothered by not having a name to go with Jason's voice. The man has been kind enough to give him a literal hand and dance with him when he needed to put some space between another unpleasant guest, and for that alone, Jayce is pleased. ]
Not quite. I'm an inventor and a scientist. That's where my interest really lies. But to get investors for funding, one needs to attend these kinds of parties on a regular basis. [ Jayce scrunches up his nose slightly, making it clear that it's more of a necessary evil than something he takes full joy in. ] Especially if you aim to get funding for projects that benefit all of society instead of a selected few.
[ This was something Viktor and he were still trying to accomplish because it was easier said than done. The growing tensions between Piltover and Zaun also didn't help. Jayce doesn't mention how he also became part of the city council, recently, or all the issues it brought up, because he's trying not to sour the conversation. ]
What about you? Are you one of the heroic types of this city, perhaps?
no subject
Nah. I'm just a regular joe. Been here for several months so far. It's been fun seeing who might show up though. Seems like there's an endless supply of those supers.
[It's almost the entire truth. Jason's been in Central for several months and he's trying to keep track of what other metas work in Central. Though it's more to assess who's a potential threat to him than just simple curiosity]
If you don't mind me asking, what kind of stuff have you invented? Sounds like your work is a lot more interesting, outside of currying rich people's favors.
no subject
That's quite some time, I imagine you've seen plenty of interesting things. And by interesting, I mean crazy. I haven't yet decided if I should join any of the guilds.
[ They seem like another of those necessary evils if he wants to thrive in this world, but before he makes a final decision, Jayce wants to know more about both parties. ]
I do not. We, scientists, love questions, so feel free. Back home, my partner and I mastered the way to combine technology and magic. We created all sorts of inventions designed to make people's lives easier. So far, our most important achievement has been the Hexgates. They're portals that allow you to travel from one point of the planet to the other. It opened our city to the world and made traveling and trading routes more affordable.
[ And from them on, the idea was to get funding and work on more community projects but it was easier said than done. It's one of Jayce's biggest regret that they couldn't focus on that as much as they wanted to.]
I'd say this world has plenty of interesting things. The tech you have here it's fascinating as well. We don't even have portable phones with cameras on them like you do.
no subject
Hexgates sound really useful too. We could use those in this world. There's teleporter tech here but as far as I know, it's been restricted for only guild members to use.
[Which is a pain when one is an unaligned meta like Jason]
no subject
[ It sounds like an old man's complaint, and Jayce is aware, but in his defense, they don't have computers in his world. And emojis are hard. ]
I've heard about it too, but I don't think it's fair that the Guild restrict their technology. Advancements should be for the benefit of society as a whole, not for some selected few. [ There's a hint of frustration coloring Jayce's tone, because he's learned certain lessons the hard way, and he's still bitter about what happened back home with the Council's corruption. It's gone by the time he speaks up again. ] I'm thinking about building a smaller version of the Hexgate to see if I can find a way to go back to my world, but that requires tools and resources I don't have just yet.
[ He's lucky enough that he came to this world with a small set of magic crystals. They need to be refined before they are safe to use. ]
no subject
Might have to think on an even smaller scale and see if you can leave from one city to another first. I hope you figure something out. Is there a particular guild you're leaning towards?
[On one hand, it's probably a stupid question. The Alliance are publicly considered the good guys. But given Jayce's comments about restricting technology, maybe he's not taking the guild propaganda at face value]
no subject
[ It's what any scientist worth their salt would do, even if there are exceptions from time to time. Desperate times call for desperate measures and all that. ]
Not yet, but I've been more in contact with members of the Alliance than the Society. My power happens to be the same as Miss Anima, and she's been giving me advice. [ Meaning, Jayce can shapeshift into animals. He more or less has it under control, but if he gets nervous, he can still transform or show animal traits by accident. ] That said, the Alliance also only helps those who join their ranks. If they were truly honest in their intentions to do good, they would offer to help the people who arrive in this world with their identification documents and certifications.
[ He doesn't want to be too critical, but it doesn't sit well with him. And yet, Jayce knows that he will have to make a decision eventually, and the pros of joining a guild so he can help people or find a way out of here might outweigh the cons. ]
You don't fully trust them?
[ It's worded as a question, but it's truly more like a statement. ]
no subject
To me, it feels like they're doing a lot of hard selling. Maybe I'm being a cynic but it seems like the Alliance is too good to be true. Is categorizing people into different guilds really the only way to keep the world in order? That recent drama among the Alliance's leaders isn't very assuring either.
[At least back home not every superhero is a Justice League member nor are they required to join]
Not that I think the Society are the real good guys but at least they seem a bit more blatant about what they're about.
Then there's the lack of care for people choosing to be unaligned. There are some who just want to mind their own business and live their lives. Why get involved with whatever petty fight that might happen between the guilds?
[Though the Society seems to be more inclined to agree with most of that sentiment]
I'm sure there are good intentions with some of the members but seems like there's a little too much interest in getting new members.
[Much of what Jason is saying is true. He's suspicious of the guilds and it's why he still hasn't joined one. But given his goals and his recent conversation with Johnny Danger, it's looking more tempting to join the Society for pragmatic reasons. Spying on them from the inside could be fruitful too]
