[Something has happened since arriving in this world. No, not just big dogs terrorising cities and fairytales brought to life--something has happened to Peter.

For a long time, he's felt hollow, going through motions and approaching responsibilities as Spider-Man with the same kind of energy as doing chores: something that necessarily needs to happen, but he's doing so begrudgingly. And sometimes haphazardly.

Lately though, things feel different. He feels different. Lighter. More alert, more keenly aware, more engaged, more energised. More like himself.

Which is unfortunate, really, because in a way it means he has to deal with... himself. He's always had to, of course, but now he has to deal with himself in the sense that he's got more feelings and less of the numbness. Which means he ends up kind of circling the roof of Loki's place for longer than necessary this time, which is absurd considering how many times he's literally swung by and how disarmingly easy it has been to just fall into being with and around Loki for whatever this is they have going.

And whatever this is, Loki thinks its important enough to resist another God's petty demands of sexual consumption for him. And literally combust as a result. Peter's still not sure what he thinks about that except a kind of horror that it happened and a sense he was entirely not worth that sacrifice.

Anyway, is he nervous? Nahhhh, not nervous. No way. He's not new to this stuff. It's just new with Loki. That's all. Who's nervous? He's not nervous. Shut up, you're nervous.

On his fifth circle (or square, really) of the rooftop, his phone vibrates and beneath the mask he smiles faintly, feeling like it's a bit of a kick up the butt even if that's not Loki's intention as he crawls his way down the wall and peers into the window from an upside-down position for a moment, just taking in the scene quietly to himself before reaching down to hoist the window open and drop in.]

Did someone order a pizza? [He tugs off the mask.] 'cause I've got some bad news: I don't have any.

[ There he is. Loki snorts and starts unloading the food onto plates, nudging the oven shut as the apartment fills with the scent of roast potatoes and meat. ]

Then it's lucky I had two slabs of animal flesh lying around, isn't it?

[ He gestures him over, wanting that promised kiss. ]

I remembered you saying you liked home-cooked meals and we've had a lot of take-out recently, so ...

[Wise-cracks to get met with carefully prepared meals? Well, that's just downright rude of Loki, really.

For a second or two, Peter just soaks in the implications of this and the value he does indeed place on home-cooked meals, something that takes time and care. It's some people's love-language, seemingly.

And despite the very poorly placed humour, he is touched by the gesture already, continuously kind of awed by Loki and all the various things he does and says and is.

I just knew he was, like, pretty evil?

That was something the Younger Peter had said about the Loki in their world recently and had left Peter feeling kind of weird, not only because he trusts Loki, but because Loki hasn't hidden much of anything from him so far. Not his past, not the person he was, the things he's done, and regrets. Maybe Peter's sense of what counts as evil has shifted, especially recently when their goal was to rehabilitate the various people who sought to cause him harm across various versions of Earth.

Looking at Loki here and now--and having looked at him in various times and states since arriving--Peter would find it pretty much impossible to pin such an unwavering term like 'evil' onto the Asgardian.

And he certainly doesn't feel that term applies as he steps across the room, hand outstretched to rove across the god's jaw and pull him forward into a slow, deep, appreciative kiss.]

[ He melts into the kiss with happy hum, brushing through Peter's hair and draping both arms over his shoulders to loosely hold him close. A captured chef! It's the quietness in favour of intensity that lets him know Peter is Thinking with a capital T and he savours the kiss while it lasts but eases back as they part for a breath, just enough to look in his big brown doe eyes. Searching. Nerves about what he said he wanted, maybe, as Loki suspected? He contains his own blushing reaction to the kiss in order to ask, ]

You okay? Talk to me.

[Thinking can get dangerous, can put Peter too much in his own head which is a place he's been for a long time and effectively all alone. It gets spinny up there sometimes.

But there's also something to be said for the fact that if someone has taken the time to make dinner, shoving them against a wall so that everything goes cold isn't very considerate. What the hell, Parker, why is your brain like this.

He gives a little shake of his head though, leaning in to press his forehead to Loki's with a soft sigh.]

I'm fine. You made food. How could I not be okay?

[His arms loop lightly around Loki's lower back, fingers lacing together there as his thumbs drum gently either side of the god's spine.]

... You sent me some pretty cheeky texts though. They all came through after I unblocked your number.

[ A grin crinkles the corners of his eyes as he laughs, leaning in to nudge a nose with his. ]

Ah, yes, after you one-hundred percent blocked me. I truly believe you did, not a doubt in my mind.

[ Swaying them on the spot, he dips in for a peck on the lips and blinks slowly, practically purring with contentment under Peter's approval. ]

You must be hungry, pirouetting around skyscrapers all day. Come and eat, the rest can wait.

[ Ravishing can wait; he wants to take care of his lover in other ways first. ]

What else did you do today?

Pirouetting?

[Peter basically morphs into the gif of the white guy blinking for a moment, since it never occurred to Peter to use a word like that to describe what he does.

Loki can probably see the overactive hamsters going at it in Peter's brain as he tries to decide if he objects to that categorisation on principle or if there's something to it. The fact he sort of lands on a slight bobbing of his head few times like a kind of mental concession and no further protest is probably enough to go by.

He's quite happy to move with Loki though, take up space and time with him, relived in general that he's no longer in searing pain and making those noises and faces that reflected that agony.]

Oh, you know. Little bit of petty criminal wrangling, a little bit of loitering, little bit of getting distracted by my phone.

It's kinda strange how some things are pretty similar to home and how much is wildly different.

[He glances at Loki with an upward push of his brows.]

You hop around a bunch of worlds, right? Is that a common feeling?

[ He's cute when he assimilates new information, Loki kisses him on the cheek for it. Then, food! he sits beside him at the kitchen bar, tucking into his own dinner. "Little bit of getting distracted by my phone," heh. ]

It is, no two universes are the same. Like the Earth where New York spread across the globe and everywhere on the planet is part of it, as well as them painting "I heart NY" on the moon. Or the Earth of the faceless bondage women who have black holes for heads, that one's scary as all Hel. Hmm, there's usually one big difference although there's just enough left of home for it to feel oddly familiar, even with the minor twists ... the way electricity feels when it shocks you could be strange, or the water always tastes off.

[Is this how super-types have dinner? Just... randomly talking about vaguely disturbing and intensely fantastical things while asking to pass the salt?

Maybe it's hypocritical of Peter, being a man-spider and everything, but as Loki starts to outline some of these horrific scenarios, the forkful of food that was making its way to Peter's mouth hovers midway as he stares at the Asgardian.]

None of this sounds like a good time. It makes this place sound like the Bahamas or something.

[Didn't Loki basically allude to this feeling like a vacation from King Frost Giant life before? Maybe this kind of puts that into perspective more.]

This is one of the nicer Earths, for sure. There are two kinds, generally speaking, primes and mayflies. A mayfly world is doomed to die, someone there is so destructive that, say, they let a zombie virus loose and the world is infected, or they become a tyrannical king and everyone starves.

[ He rests his fork on his plate, visibly debating saying more when he looks to Peter. That's when his voice softens and he gives a sad smile. ]

I once found an Asgard where my skeleton was on the throne, my brother's was reaching up the steps toward me. I also met my future-self, before I changed the direction my life was going in, and he had burned every human on Earth to ash. He sat upon their bones.

Lokis are ... not good rulers, as a rule. Ironically. But, [ and he digs his fork into his meal, enthusing himself to feel better, picking up his own mood (which he is very practiced at), ] I am more self-aware than most, so I have no plans to go full-scale wacko. Rest assured.

[By and large, Peter is a bit of a sloucher--part just being hunched over work or a screen a lot of the time looking at things in close detail, and part That Spider-Man Life--but as Loki speaks about the things he's seen of his other selves and trajectories of their fates he sits up slowly to the back of his chair.

The words of his younger self sliver back through his mind, the question about wasn't Loki super evil and here again is the indication of something other than that in this Loki--his Loki.(Wait, is he allowed to think of this Loki as his? Those are big questions)

There again is that willingness to set the truth upon the proverbial table, the ability to self-reflect and admit to poor past choices and what this Loki has done in the aftermath of that. It's complex and painful and messy, and another example of the difference in scale of stakes so many of these other worlds have compared both to Peter's and this one.

It seems a fairly instinctual thing to reach out and sweep the tips of his fingers against the hair at Loki's temple, a sort of placeholder for where words should be but he's not immediately sure of what to say.]

You know, it hadn't crossed my mind as something I needed to be reassured about with you, if I'm honest.

[ The touch has his lashes fluttering, leaning into it. Peter's words make all of Loki's ribs melt into a warm fuzzy feeling and he takes those fingers in a hand, kissing Peter's knuckles. ]

That's because you are better than I deserve.

[ He pushes his plate away, turning to face him a little more as his smile weakens at the edges. ]

I do want to be honest with you. I'm ... anxious that you won't like what you hear, though. It's bad, Peter.

[There often feels like a little dance going on between them--sometimes fun, but often to avoid certain things in both their circumstances. Peter knows he's been doing it and it seems obvious that Loki is doing it too.

He takes a deep breath in through his nose as he mentally chews on this moment and how best to approach it.]

I bet it is. I mean, just thinking about it logically, gods live for a longass time, so you're all bound to go through... rough times. Even the best ones. Like, if humans go through periods of being broken and awful with shorter lifespans, it kind of makes sense that's the same for immortals. But, y'know, different and probably... more extreme.

[He frowns, realising he's not really phrasing what's in his head very well at all.]

I mean, you keep saying I'm better and good and I'm... not. I'm really not. I get there are lots of really good Peter Parkers and Spider-Men. Spider-People. They didn't get dragged into dark places and let it take over, but I'm not that. Haven't been that; trying to do better.

[He shifts his hand a little, running his thumb over Loki's fingers.]

I guess... if you want me to hear this stuff from you before them, I'm all ears. And if you don't, that's fine too. I just think I kinda get where you're coming from. But different.

[ There has always been something other about Peter since they met on a pink sign in the dead of a chilly night, he was grim and wry in a way Loki can't remember having seen in the spider of Earth-616 before (brief as that interaction was). He suspects Peter has been brutal and unforgiving on a scale he doesn't like to dwell on because it's shameful; he's a hero, of course it is.

He finds himself smiling in mild wonder at how sweet Peter manages to be, despite his past wounds. ]

Sometimes I will lie to you, I can't pretend to be perfect. Everybody lies, after all, but I will do my best to treat you as you deserve. That means getting you up to speed on what almost everyone back in my universe is aware of, loathe as I am to show you.

[ He uses his free hand to conjure a holographic-like figure of Old Loki and if a god could ever look ancient, he does.

Loki swallows, his grip in Peter's hand squeezing as his voice quietens. ]

I used to be mad.

[By this point, Peter resume his forward slouch, this time to give Loki more close focus and attention as he lays their hands down upon the table. He doesn't try to rush Loki through this story--it's personal, and he's already been forewarned it's painful and horrific, so he just leaves the floor open for Loki as he gently squeezes back and peers at the image of the smaller old Loki in the god's palm.]

[ He tries to hit all the salient points without forcing Peter to sit through a boring, lengthy, miserable tale. The figure changes as he talks into easily digestible scenes, some depicting Thor. The Old Man has stitch marks across his lips and Loki explains that the old myths were real, the Old Man was abused and tormented, and responded more viciously each time. ]

... Until he was no longer the God of Mischief, but of Evil. [ Nothing the Old Man did was met with surprise, everyone expected him to screw them over. ] Mischief cannot survive where there is no kindness, no playfulness. It's cruelty, otherwise.

[ He chins a hand, tired in droves of his history but summarising it for Peter's benefit. ]

He made a plan to kill himself but to copy his soul, which is where I come in. That's a whole other level of insanity, we can stop there if you need a break.

[It's not really like watching a movie, though there's nothing else Peter can really relate this experience to. It's someone's life story with pictures, but it's not in a photo album--there's really nothing he can think of that's like this with the exception of the technology he's witnessed in labs, but those run protocols to find possibilities of what could be in science, not what has been in myth-but-reality.

He keeps his one hand around Loki's, but brings his other arm across the table to rest his head against while he listens, his focus still very firmly on Loki's face as he tells this tale.]

He had a plan to do that, but when he became you, you thought differently about the whole thing?

[He lifts his head a little.]

Wait. Me? No, I'm good. I'm fine. Do... you need a break?

I'm okay.

[ Mainly because Peter is, or he wouldn't be continuing to this part in particular. ]

It's like when you finish a game and save it, but then you can start a brand new one. You still have all the potential of the game and you remember playing it, but you have the opportunity to make new choices.

I remember things he did and why, I just ... have no emotional connection to most of it. Once I took a body, I could think for myself and the game, so to speak, handed me the controls for my own turn.

Until then, I was merely a copy of a soul.

[Okay, that actually makes a lot of sense. See, this is why if you get a boyfriend who is also a Norse god you get one who knows how to use a smart phone, play video games, and go to Starbucks. Verily!]

So... does that mean he's dead now? Technically speaking? Like, if you're the new save of the game, and he's not playing, you're you and not him, so he doesn't exist anymore... Is that it?

Yes, mainly. Yes, I mean, he's dead.

[ He ruffles his hair. ]

I'm the God of Stories too, lies are just tall tales. I'm subject to the roles and expectations of stories, that's why I went to the Avengers Tower where the heroes work and erased all their files on my evil-self. I didn't want to hear about him anymore.

The future-me, he was told over and over that he was bad and so he became it. It drove him crazy, too.

[That seems like the principle example of a self-fulfilling prophecy.]

That's amazing.

[He scrunches his face, realising that didn't come out right as a kneejerk reaction.]

Not the whole going insane part and burning all of humanity down to the ground and sitting on a throne of their skeletons. Not that part. The other stuff. The you stuff, the whole... spinning that around against the odds and knowing that path and--

[He pauses, mouth hanging open for a second before he closes it and pulls his lips in. It feels a bit like a heavy penny has dropped in his mind.]

So... it even if you deleted those files, you're still butting up against those same mechanisms that drove him to that and you know its what drove him mad. And people must still talk about the stuff he did before and are probably expecting you to do the same since they don't know any better.

That's-- That must be really hard.

[ He understands. Loki leans over on impulse to kiss Peter, firm and chaste as he breathes a relieved smile. ]

It's alright. The Old Man committed truly heinous crimes, people will be angry for a long time. They have the right to be. I was wracked with guilt until I realised I can't carry all of his sins. He made me into a murder weapon, but he was the murderer.

Thank you for ... for listening.

[Peter lifts his head to meet the kiss, fleeting as it is, though his mind retains the image of what must feel like a blade constantly hanging down at the back of Loki's neck by a rope that he's constantly aware of and has to check the integrity of that rope but can do nothing to actually remove it. It's scary and honestly Peter can't say for sure that he'd be able to manage it himself if he were in that same position.

He sits up properly after a moment, staring at Loki for a long moment to just sort of drink him in and let all of these thoughts settle before he brings both his hands forward to take hold of the god's jaw on either side. This should probably feel like a lot. Like, a lot a lot, but somehow it just feels like it slots more into perspective for him as he draws Loki in for another kiss. Longer this time though, deeper. Something kind of anchoring and steady. It's fine. I'm fine. We're fine.

Then he draws back a little with a small, crooked smile--]

I don't know how else I'd want to spend Valentines than hearing your anti-villain origin story.

[ Relaxing into the kiss, one of his hands slips into Peter's hair and brushes through, giving a happy tug behind an ear. He grins widely, forehead dropping into the crook of Peter's neck. ]

Valentine's, yes! I can't believe I've been word-vomiting such dire subjects your way today.

[ He nips where he is, kisses making their way up to nibble on an earlobe as he slides his hand in Peter's hair down to his chest, rapping the spider-symbol. Poor man hasn't even had a chance to change, yet. ]

However can I make it up to you ... ?

[One day, one day, Peter will actually show up to Loki's place in casual clothe. Hell, maybe he'll even come through the front door! How novel!

The scrape of Loki's teeth against his ear sends an excited shiver up Peter's spine, right up the back of his neck, along every hair and somewhere deep in his brain as the purr of Loki's voice lights up every nerve.

It's just such the flirty opening, something Loki seems to do so effortlessly and smoothly that it sometimes leaves Peter's mind spinning and feeling like he's wildly out of his depth. What the heck are you supposed to do when you have an incredibly cool boyfriend?

He does give a low hum though, something that vibrates in his chest just beneath Loki's palm as Peter leans his head against the side of the Asgardian's.]

I dunno... I guess could always show you some of the messages you sent earlier if you need some inspiration.

[Dexterous fingers dance along the line of Loki's back fleetingly.]

But I do mean it. There's nothing I'd want more than to hear more about you from you. It means a lot that you'd share that with me. Really.

[No more serious, Parker! Are you trying to throttle the mood as it's trying to take off or what?]

[ They have been touchy since their first night, both craving the affection in honest desire, and it couldn't be coursing through Loki's veins any hotter as Peter keeps going on about wanting to get to know him (wanting to hear Loki speak), drugging him dizzily on longing. He slides off his stool to loom in close, situating himself between Peter's legs, and slides both hands down a red-and-blue chest to encircle a waist with a squeeze. ]

I don't think I've ever wanted to have a man more when you talk like that.

[ His lips skate close to Peter's, giving into the urge to kiss him just as deeply as he was moments before, and he lets a low moan melt into the passing of tongues. When the slow, sticky slide ends, he rests their foreheads together with a heated look under his lashes, the touches down his back causing him to arch in close. ]

Let me peel you free of that costume and spread you out, dear.

[To Peter, he's just being honest. He's been closed off for a lot of years, only starting to see cracks of the person he was emerge again after so long and even then it's not revealing the same person as before, but someone new. It should have taken a tremendous amount of time to get to this place of honest openness with Loki, and yet it all arrived so quickly that it still sometimes leave Peter feel kind of light-headed and like he's spinning.

Like when Loki says stuff like that about him, like he's somehow unique and it feels surreal. The only thing that makes him believe Loki means it is because he trusts what Loki says, even having been told he'll likely lie at some point. Weirdly, Peter already gets the sense if Loki did lie he could trust that too, in some paradoxical way.

But then there's the other way Loki speaks to him which is equally head-spinning for entirely different reasons and Peter can already feel the heat tingle up the small of his back and rise up the back of his neck as his hands slide down to run down over Loki's wrists and the backs of his hands.]

You made dinner.

[Are those nerves making him blurt out odd priorities. Maybe. Shh!]

I'd rather eat you.

[ He doesn't miss a beat admitting it, the wickedly covetous look Peter inspires softening soon after. Loki runs his hands down to Peter's hips and back up again, always giving into the pressure of the hands on his if they want him to stop; he loves the shape of him, all laid out in that tight little suit conveniently putting every muscle on display.

Green eyes blink, steady and serious in the midst of spiralling lust. ]

Would you like that? If we started out easy, with you riding my mouth? If you don't like it you can always fuck me.

[There's an extent to which Peter can never really tell how much of this is just Loki trying to get a rise out of him (in multiple ways; two birds with one stone and all that) and how much of it is serious. Or maybe it's always both. Perhaps that's what's both terrifying and so intensely enthralling about just about everything Loki does.

After a very protracted blink which may or may not be Peter just letting so many mental images filter through his mind as he instinctually reaches over to tug Loki flush to him abruptly--hips meeting, foreheads touching, heat shared as he heaves a low breath.]

I really don't think there's much you could do I wouldn't like. [He keeps his eyes low, eyelids casting a bit of a shadow over his gaze in a way that almost makes him look coy. Or at least faux coy.]

Plus... I think we're well beyond starting out easy, dontcha think?

[ He always feels his blood spike with heat whenever Peter pulls him in and now is no different, shivers racing up Loki's spine as he leans into his space, his body, lashes dropping to focus on Peter's mouth. His embrace encircles him snugly for a moment as he listens. A kiss catches, light and sweet at odds with the heartbeat pounding in Loki's ears and through every vein. ]

We are never beyond what makes you comfortable, dear.

[ But he can take the lead when needed and his hands drift a moment before he hooks them under Peter's thighs and lifts him without effort, hoisting him up. Loki grins and walks him back to the nearest wall, pushing Peter up against it with a hungry kiss, hips working to provide the best seat possible as he grinds in impatiently, starved for everything his shaky-souled lover can give. ]

[Woah. Okay, no. Wait. Hang on. That's not right. That's not right at all!

It all happens really, really fast even if it doesn't actually happen really fast. Is this what other people feel like when he just casually hoists them up? This kind of rush of surprise and excitement and a general 'woah what the fuck, man, you shouldn't be able to do that!' internal sentiment? He has no idea, but of course theoretically he knew Loki was stronger than the human he mostly looks like and the theoretical and literal just hadn't had chance to meet yet.

Boy howdy though if everything Peter knows being thrown on its head isn't a ridiculous turn-on as his hands automatically reach into the silky black of Loki's hair and his grip tightens to meet that ravenous kiss entirely along with a long, deep groan in his throat that vibrates low and loud.]

[ That's the moan of a man dying to get fucked, Loki thinks, while thought is still possible. He answers with a rumbling purr of approval and squeezes the cheeks in his grip with every rolling thrust, finding the curve of balls and rutting his cock up behind them so that Peter is never without the hard length of him. That's certainly the direction Loki is immediately heading with the skill and fire like he's everywhere at once, a match to Peter's entirely too flammable body. Hands and breath and lips, lighting up every nerve-ending in Peter's system so bright it starts to sear in the most deliriously exquisite way.

Maybe in the morning, while tugging at his own collar, Peter will mutter at curse at himself (not Loki) about not being an undergrad anymore and how he shouldn't be getting hickies, but god damn if he doesn't care about that right now as the sharp want and need of the moment winds through everything. And in point of fact it just tightens his hold in Loki's hair with a tug closer and forward since it seems to at least in part be related to cause and effect. Cause: grab god-boyfriend's hair; effect: god-boyfriend does that.

His legs can squeeze Loki in tight and close, secure and firm as he leans his head back with a throaty groan that he immediately clamps quiet with a spandex-covered hand because, oops, he sure is not quite out of his own mind just yet. Not fully, anyway.

Oh, [ tilting his head back when he hears Peter muffling his cries, he grasps his wrist and pins it above Peter's head, ] no, none of that.

[ He can support him with one arm, shifting Peter onto a thigh so he can get the front of his pants snug against Loki's hip for a firm grind, slower than before so that Loki can watch the pink rise up that webbed collar and tint the shells of ears. He obeys any tugging on his hair, scraping his teeth over tendons and kissing them better a moment later, tongue trailing up behind an ear. ]

[That's only so much denial someone can have about the effects they're under in spandex and Loki's interest in pushing that is about as subtle as the hard curve of his cock.

Typically someone on par with his own strength or stronger would be a real cause for concern for Peter, given the context he's usually encountering that sort of thing, but here, with Loki, it's a brand of exhilarating that he should probably feel a kind of shame about. Maybe he does. Maybe it just burns away with the heat rising from his body as he tries to gain a bit more of a foothold and instead just pushes and grinds his hips against his lover to add to that friction.]

Loki's lips ghost along Peter's jaw, catching on stubble. Choice is a kink he toys with lightly, experimenting for Peter's sake to see what he likes, light and playful with a note of curiosity. ]
