[OPEN] Leave that old record spinning~

Who: Jason Todd [personal profile] robintohood and you!
What: Grand Opening Week of Descendant Karaoke Bar and Lounge
When: Week of November 28th
Where: Central City
Content Warnings: N/A for now. Will edit if needed.

[Throughout November, you may have seen posts across all the major social media platforms about a new Central City karaoke bar opening up. They even include some nice professional photos of the interior taken by Mark Bryant. Or maybe you’ve heard vague rumors in the criminal underworld about a new safe haven for discussing and doing some illicit business.

Meanwhile in Central City, the renovations of a two-storied building with a basement and an attic were being done swifter than any legally permitted construction project. The owner made sure it was good work done too.

And now at the tail end of the month, there’s a newly opened karaoke bar and lounge known as Descendant. Everyone is welcomed, regardless of their meta status or if they’re part of any guild.

Descendant’s entrance door is relatively innocuous. As soon as you step into the building though, you’re in the security check area and met with bouncers holding metal detector wands. No one’s allowed further in until they get checked. Once you check your weapons, you’ll receive a key labeled with the number of the locker your weapon(s) are in.

In a nod to Ascendant, the previous bar that attracted some of Central’s criminals, much of Descendant’s interior basic layout is similar but now with a speakeasy-esque decor. Once you walk through weapons check, you’re greeted with the first floor being an open space for mingling, drinking, and eating. The walls are visibly brick and the tables and chairs aren’t too fancy. The first floor is also where the bar is.

Further towards the back of the first floor are private rooms for guests to enjoy if they reserve ahead of time and pay extra. The cheapest karaoke rooms are simple and while the most expensive are more luxurious.

One room that makes Descendant unique is the reading room everyone is welcome to use. You're free to drink and enjoy some quiet reading time. Take a book for keeps or donate a book! Quiet conversation is welcome, but overly noisy patrons will be kicked out.

On the second floor are a couple of arcade machines, pool tables, and a stage for live performances. There are plush lounges for people to sit and enjoy the shows, or to take a break between rounds of pool.

With the exception of the reading room and the employee-only areas, you’ll hear music throughout most of the building. It’s either coming from the karaoke machines or from a separate playlist.

Whatever you decide to do, the owner and other attentive employees hope you enjoy your time at their establishment.]

((OOC: Mingle post! Enjoy yourselves. More information about Descendant is here and here, including an opt-in form for the BatFamily to spy on your character.))

It's not.

[Huvrye's world has no concept of hell, but if it did, that would be how he'd describe things, especially in Lasardhi. Because of Lasardhi. Fairies might be hardier than humans, but they're not better.]

[He watches as the drunkard revives under that splash of water, watches the chair come skittering over the floor towards him, and lets it bounce off his hip harmlessly. Look at him, staying here as instructed, not causing any further trouble.]

[(He's been called much, much worse things, and they've all been true. Some idiot calling him what he is registers about as much as that chair did.)]

[If he doesn't get thrown out, he's going to ask if this place has coffee, because he could really use one right now.]

[ It's a few minutes before Tim comes back. Steering a weaving, unwilling individual through a crowded bar is more challenging than it looks, and, once outside, the man had tried to re-enter the bar three times. Each time, Tim had gently spun him around and encouraged him to go down the stairs on his own two feet. In the end, he had.

Not before Tim had swapped his car keys for a pack of matches with the bar's name on it. What, he can't let the guy drive home like this.

When he comes back, he's rather surprised to find the winged man.
]

You're still here? You know you're going to end up paying for that table.

[ Huh, he would've guessed they'd do a runner. ]

[It's a very long few minutes. For the most part, people have been giving Huvrye space, being very careful not to brush or step on his wings if they have to get near him. He hadn't wanted this reputation all over again, but since when has life ever worked out in his favor?]

[But security returns, and Huvrye raises an eyebrow at the question.]

I said I would.

[Before the wing grabbing incident, this place had actually been pretty nice. He'd prefer not to get thrown out if he can avoid it.]

[(Though if he's going to get a reputation for violence here all over again, he may have to leave anyway.)]

Yeah, you did.

[ Tim doesn’t point out that he could’ve bailed. He’s not sure how to react to that sort of honesty, but this does feel like a crucial moment. A way to demonstrate how the bar handles these incidents. ]

We’ll see what the owner says. In the meantime, let’s find you a new table and get you another drink.

[ Tim gestures for him to follow him towards the back. ]

If it happens again, come to me or one of the other staff. We take it very seriously when anyone lays a hand on anyone else. If you’re worried about what they’ll do, just order an angel shot. Let us handle it.

[His reputation here is - hopefully - going to be based on his choices, not someone else's orders. He'd like to start off as right as he can - he screwed it up with the bar fight, but he can at least handle the aftermath better.]

[He follows as indicated, but...no, that doesn't sit right.]

If someone starts a fight with me when you're not around, I'm not going to just lie down and take it.

[He's had to take it from Baal and Effiom. He's not going to let anyone else bully him like that if he doesn't have to.]

[...but he's also trying not to get kicked out of this bar.]

But I can- I don't know, pull my punches, I guess. I didn't think he'd go down that easily.

[ Why does everyone have to argue with him? Tim needs to have Jason further clarify what "customer service" means in the Descendant, because it's really hard to not roll his eyes. ]

There's a difference between "not lying down and taking it" and "walking away." You can clearly handle yourself, and the entire bar saw - so why not walk away next time?

[Don't take it personally; Huvrye argues with everyone, even when he definitely shouldn't.]

Because I don't know if they'll stop, and I'm not about to turn my back to someone who's attacking me.

[ The smile is kept off his face with some effort. Sorry, sir, but he does chirp sometimes. ]

I never said you had to turn your back. Just walk backwards.

In a crowded bar.

[Really? Really?]

If you don’t like my hypothetical scenarios, you’re free to supplement with your own. I’m hearing a lot of negativity and doubt, and that’s not on the menu.

[ Tim gestures at an empty 2-top table with a menu, before handing it to the fae. ]

For the record, not everyone here would punch you for bumping into them, and you could fly over them.
