After talking Jason into pretending to be his Responsible Adult, Kaz mostly chills in the little examination area and plays around with his phone while waiting for his rescue. (No/limited screentime only counts if you have a concussion, and he Definitely Doesn't, okay. He's a doctor, basically, he knows this stuff, and he barely even has a headache.) Eventually, a nurse lets him know that a Jason Todaro is here to see him and has him confirm that yep, that's his Responsible Adult before Jason's allowed past the entrance to see him.

He tucks his phone away just as Jason comes into the room. Kaz isn't looking too bad - there's a gauze pad taped to his left arm and scrapes along both elbows, and his jeans and shirt aren't looking their cleanest (like he's been on the ground). His head injury isn't particularly visible. "Hey, man. Thanks for coming."

"Names, then. Money where your mouth is. Gotta know where to send the shady patients."

This will absolutely end well.

Jason names off a couple of clinics that are more under the table and try to work away from the eyes of the guilds. They're not so much dealing with criminal patients as they are dealing with people who have other reasons for not wanting to join a guild or can't afford better care. One of the clinics was one Jason and several other people went to in January after Hunter was shot. Given what the place was, it was decent and Hunter was able to make a full recovery.

"The staff at those places haven't been too bad it seems."

"So I'll try one of those out if this place doesn't work," Kaz says because he is Totally Not Being a Contrary Jerk. He's definitely probably kidding.

"They probably won't let you be a doctor anytime soon though," Jason points out, in case Kaz gets any idea about how much those clinics will allow.

"Yeah, I'm getting that impression."

It sucks. Why can't every clinic just be like Mighty Med and recklessly hire a minor to be a doctor? Where's alternate universe Horace Diaz when you need him?

At least they've made it to the hotel. "Are you planning to follow me to my room, or..."

Jason shrugs.

"Don't see why not. Just in case," he replies simply.

The head injury still has him a bit concerned.

"It's really not that bad."

He knows he invited Jason into this, but he didn't expect it to go this far.

"Better safe than sorry with these kinds."

Maybe he's being overprotective but kids having to take care of themselves younger than they should be seems to stir another side to Jason.

It's not that Kaz is getting, like, Warning Bells(TM) or anything from Jason, or else he wouldn't have asked the guy to pretend to be his Responsible Adult, but he's not so sure he wants to take him to his room to babysit him. Call it a latent sense of self-preservation that he's kind of sort of developing now that he's on his own.

"Seriously, I'm fine."
