Who: Donnie
purplexing and you..?!
What: Just a mutant teenage turtle who is also a ninja doing completely normal things that aren't breaking any laws whatsoever
When: Late April through early May
Where: Central City
Content Warnings: N/A
Notes: Will match pose style preferences!
I. One Man's Trash is Another Turtle's Treasure
It's always difficult to start from scratch. Difficult but not impossible. More annoying than anything else, really, but certainly not impossible. Having been at square one before, Donnie at least knows what he's in the market for and has a pretty good idea of where to look.
Well, so to speak. He's still relatively new to Central City but finding a junkyard isn't difficult when you have access to the internet!!!
Dangerous? Maybe. Profitable? Hopefully! Either way, the turtle is not planning to go back to the apartment empty-handed. He heads out early since it's easier looking through things when it's daylight, and in his experience junkyards are usually pretty devoid of visitors. Usually.
Purple may not be the most inconspicuous thing to wear but at least he's pretty good about being quick and quiet as he sneaks in.
II. Location, Location, Location
It may be disgusting but the sewers are nevertheless the perfect place to hide and get around in the city. In this instance Donnie's looking more for a hideaway than means of travel, but either way, it's still very clear to him that these aren't the same sewers as he's familiar with.
Sure, Leo had said he'd help look for places, but with excess free time and a lot of the projects he wants to work on hinging on finding a better place to do so, Donnie figures it can't hurt to do some location scouting too. Anyway, he's a ninja. He can take care of himself..!
The turtle errs on the side of caution for his sewer spelunking activities. The way he enters is never near the area he wants to check out, most of his traversing done underground as he scopes out tunnels branching out from the heart of the city. Of course, he's only one turtle, and while the sewers here probably don't run into abandoned subway stations or a maze of forgotten tunnels like New York, it's still a lot to poke around.
He's also unused to the idea that maybe there are other parties possibly interested in moving unseen in the sewers.
III. Alien Skylines
If someone's keeping an eye out some evenings, it wouldn't be terribly hard to spot the strange neon violet flares as something zips up along the length of one of the taller buildings.
Central City will never be New York. That's been established early on, but it still manages to make Donnie homesick every time he manages to get a good view of the cityscape from above.
The rooftops aren't exactly quiet but they allow just the right amount of ambiance that you can still think about things without a sensory overload. And there are a lot of things to think about. How to sneak into schoolof all things, how to not potentially short-circuit your own brain by accidentally plugging into computers somehow, how to unravel this Confluence nonsense, how to get your brother home safely... The list just grows and grows.
If Donnie's not leaning against the ledge staring out at the rest of the city or suspiciously eyeing the skies for any signs of raining people, then he's settled against a wall, messing around with his phone or tapping at a projected interface over his left forearm.
IV. Wildcard
((OOC: Got anything specific in mind or wanna bounce of ideas? PM or poke me on plurk or on ye olde Discord!))

While Leo went 70s, his outfit looks like a flashback from the 80s, from the ripped jeans to the loud, geometrically patterned shirt (with a healthy dose of purple, of course) and a denim jacket to top it all off.
No shades, but he does tweak his glasses up as he slides a look over at Leo.
no subject
Leo knocks his own shades so he can give Donnie a look over the top of the frames.
"Alright, not bad, not bad. But can you do this?"
Let him strut down to the three-way mirror and then do a dramatic turn. He even flips the jacket out as he does it.
no subject
He walks himself over to the mirror not terribly unlike Leo had a moment before, pausing to do a few poses by the mirror before he does a three-quarter turn, thrusting a hip out as he sets his hand there. Giving himself a second or two, he finally turns completely, popping the collar of his jacket.
no subject
But dang, Donnie is pulling out all the stops this time. With the collar pop too!? Leo returns the golf clap.
"Alright, alright... not bad. Those poses were flashy; someone's been coming up with new material."
He also likes the ripped jeans unironically.
no subject
Donnie smiles crookedly at Leo's verdict, folding his arms. "I figured I needed to up my game for the occasion."
no subject
"Well anyone would if they knew they had to stand next to me."
So saying he pops his hip and tosses his imaginary hair/mask tails.
no subject
Donnie tosses his head as he shift his stance exaggeratedly, as though Leo's comment alone prompts another pose-off.
Which it apparently does.
A couple of shoppers decide to browse another section of the shop because clearly they can't handle the Twins' excellent tastes.
no subject
If it's a pose-off Donnie wants, it's a pose-off he'll get! Leo does his own posing back, throwing a hand in the air and turning his face one way and then the other like he's showing off for a camera.
He'll start vogueing any moment now.
no subject
Once Leo starts voguing nothing is going to stop these two, short of a bad playlist.
no subject
Leo puts on his own jacket in the most dramatic fashion possible, tossing out his arm and tugging the fabric on dramatically. And now that his hands are free it’s vogue time.
They have basically turned the dressing room area into their own personal fashion show.
no subject
Now that they've gotten past the preliminary act, Donnie's matching Leo in level, pose for pose. The two are absolutely shameless, unfortunately for anyone else in the store. He doesn't care though, they're having fun, and it's not after-hours when places are technically closed.
"Hang on, we need to archive this!" Donnie proclaims, digging out his phone.
no subject
He matches Donnie pose for pose, only getting sillier and more dramatic as they go. When Donnie pulls out his phone, he can’t help but laugh, stepping in closer.
“Heck yes. Everyone needs to appreciate the fit.”
He gestures at himself.
no subject
"Should be fun when I'm going through photos later and find pics of dad and April dressin' it up," he laughs. That's going to be a weird one to get used to.
He snaps a few shots, giving them ample opportunity to pose as they will.
no subject
Said like all the poses they're doing are not goofy to begin with! Which of course they are not. They are nothing but hip and cool.
Leo poses with just as much gusto for the selfies as he has been, until Donnie has done enough. Then he grabs him by the arm and yanks him back into one of the fitting rooms.
"Okay, let's get a real picture."
By which he means, of course, their full glory turtle-y-ness.
no subject
Donnie's in the middle of checking the latest pictures when Leo suddenly hauls him into a stall. His scowl at the interruption and the unnecessary manhandling clears up instantly with his brother's proposal. Brushing Leo away so he can straighten his clothes, he flashes a grin.
"My thoughts exactly."
He slips his sleeve up to tap at the holowatch.
no subject
Leo is completely unfazed by the scowl, pushing back his own sleeve so he can do the same.
Somehow the outfit looks even more ridiculous when it’s clashing with green skin, but he likes to look flashy so he’s good with it.
“Ready whenever you are.”
no subject
"When am I not?"
He brings up his phone again as they adjust themselves in the space. At least for pictures he's not too picky about personal space.
no subject
Honestly he wishes he had a hat. That would really help pull off the look. But he will just have to live with shades and his normal bald head.
"Lemme see, I wanna bask in how fabulous I look," he says at the end.
no subject
Donnie thumb through the pictures before he turns it towards Leo so he can see for himself.
"What do people even wear at school anyway? Think this sort of thing would be too much?" he asks, not that he particularly cares but he did just remember the reason they'd come here for. Well, part of the reason, let's be real- the main reason was always just to try on clothes, school or not.
no subject
He leans in to look, nodding in satisfaction at the pictures of himself (and Donnie too, why not), when the question reminds him of the original reason they even came here. Oh, right.
"Uh, well, probably not if you toned it down a little." The ripped jeans, at least, would be perfectly fine. "Honestly, a lot of people are so boring... They just cycle through the same sweatpants and hoodies every day."
And it's not like Leo doesn't love a good sweatpant+hoodie combo when he wants to be comfy, but he feels like if you have a chance to wear something more exciting why waste it? (Though that may be his biased opinion from not really having much opportunity to dress up his whole life.)
"There's still definitely some fashionable ones though, so if you showed up totally decked out you'd be a hit."
To Leo, it's about striking that delicate balance between looking good but not looking like you're trying too hard.
no subject
"Hmmmmmmm," Donnie muses, the gears definitely turning in his mind. "And I suppose it also depends on how much of a hit I'm going for... Which- let's be real, won't be difficult, I am the better looking of us both but drawing too much attention would probably be opposite of what would be ideal under these particular circumstances."
Which is going to be difficult considering attention is what he craves and if it's not simply looking amazing then exemplary scholastic performance is bound to do it eventually.
no subject
And that reason is that he is not only clearly the better looking one but also the most suave.
"Anyway, we both know you're going to draw tons of attention the second you build a tactical defense robot out of a potato clock and rubber bands for your science fair project so why delay the inevitable?"
Should he be encouraging his brother this way? Probably not, but Leo feels confident he can talk their way out of a problem if it arises. So long as the only face they know is April O'Hamato it should be fine...!
no subject
It seems all he wants is to make sure Leo's on the same page as him. Yes, drawing attention has been a minor concern but it's just as simply crumpled up and tossed over a shoulder.
"I do not say this lightly nor often, as you know, but in this case, you are absolutely right, there's no helping for it. If I'm doing this school thing, I'm going all out!"
no subject
Leo is again caught between a rock and a hard place - he wants to keep Donnie safe and unknown to the guilds, but he also wants Donnie to live his school life dreams. That's hard to do if he's keeping his head down. What is Leo going to tell Donnie to do, act less smart? That's like asking a fish not to swim.
"I'm always right, for the record. But just remember that we're trying to keep the guilds from knowing about you."
He can go a little crazy, but not too crazy.
no subject
Big sigh! "I know, I know," Donnie says, deflating a bit, maybe even pouting. "They won't have to know about me, at least. Unfortunately when I was checking out the enrollment requirements, it looks like they're expecting some kind of guild affiliation mentioned."
He makes a face, folding his arms as he leans against the side of the dressing room stall.
"At least if I put one or the other then I'll know who to expect to come looking into Othello Von Ryan."
