What: Galatea asked for hero training. And she's following through.

She had asked. And he seemed...trustworthy? As much as anybody seemed it, to her. She'd spent most of her life being told that any 'so-called hero' was the enemy. And parts of her, the pre-programmed parts, still itched a little, even considering this. Seeing him in person would be harder, she knew.

But this wasn't there, and she didn't have CADMUS around to give her orders, so that gave her questions to answer. Most specifically who she was, exactly.

And she was supposed to be a hero. The Government's chosen hero. What did that actually mean?

These were questions she wanted to answer. And he'd said he'd teach and so...why not? She carried what she needed to a convenient rooftop before asking him to join her - which is why he'd find a pair of old school desks taken from a derelict building, along with a blackboard - and various remains of chalk.

Because this was how she'd learned - admittedly with digital screens and whiteboards - but still. She was gonna be the student, he the teacher. This is what made sense, right?

The fact that the desk was a little small for someone her age was...neither here nor there. Nor were the remains of the first two she'd flat out broken trying to make adjustments.

[ kyle shrugs. ]

He handed it to me and was like "You'll have to do" before vanishing.

[There's silence for a long moment as she stares at him, incredulous. And then she can't help it, she bursts into laughter.]

Hahaha are you kiddin - what the shit?

[ kyle grins. ]

That's the truth. I got no training, I had no mentor . . . I basically was learning on the go. I made tons of mistakes, all the time.

That's it, huh? Just handed you cosmic power and said "have a happy" and strolled the hell off.

[She shakes her head.]

Yeah. Yeah I get that. I woke up and got told 'hey congrats, you're a weapon, salute the flag,' and that was it. That was...it.

And heh, yeah, mistakes, huh?

Plenty. Some really embarrassing ones, some really bad ones.

It's how we keep at it that matters.

[She sighs, leaning back on her perch. She looks at him, and decides...the hell with it. She's been a closed off secret long enough.]

So I was grown, not born. Heh, I'm not even real, that's how deep my screw-ups and mistakes go.

You got CADMUS in whatever universe you're from? Hopefully not, but if you do, you already know the kind of jerks behind such an idea. Made me as a weapon from Supergirl to take down the Justice League.

I haven't made a choice in my life before coming here. They just kept telling me my job was to kill, and it's...it's in my head, you know? Like I should just...solve my problems with my fists.

[She looks down at her hands, with a sigh.]

Not even a person...not really. But tonight, for a little bit? Felt like I was.

Yeah, we have CADMUS.

[ kyle never dealt with them directly, but the justice league dealt with cadmus. and he knew kon fairly well. ]

And of course you are. Just because your starting point is different doesn't mean you're not real. I get that you don't have any idea where to go, but you have help. And you can decide what you want.

[Oh the conversation the two of them could have. But she looks at him for a long moment, then away again. She's not sure she believes him, much at all...but she believes he believes, and that counts for something, right?]

Got that last part right. Nobody's telling me what to do anymore. Real or not, I'm not just gonna be some government weapon again.

[ kyle's not a fan of the government. ]

Anyway, it takes time. To find who you want to be. It's not instant. Took me over a year to be somewhat competent with the ring. Maybe another to figure out what kind of hero I wanted to be.

[She nods, with a chuckle.]

Yeah, I'm the don't-trust-the-feds poster girl.

And what sort of hero do you want to be?

Me?

. . . Just someone who cares, I guess.

[She sighs]

That's the hard part. I was trained to...not.

That doesn't mean you can't.

Training is just . . . training. You can train yourself out of it.

Yeah. That's the idea.

[She taps her head.]

Kinda hard when 'kill the Justice League' is hardwired up here. But hey, upside: clearly they didn't leave a detonator up there like Waller does with those poor jerks on the Squad.

You know, there's probably someone out here who can help you out with that. Just saying.

[ waller though . . . why would she do that? ]

You mean like a shrink?

[She shook her head]

Nah. Nobody's gonna want to talk to someone who can cave their head in with a flicked finger if they had a bad session.

You'd be surprised.

Also there are people here who are pretty powerful. It couldn't hurt to try. Just in case you're worried if there are any surprises buried in — [ kyle points to his head. — there.

[Oh, that's a thought that hadn't occurred to her yet.]

Shit - I hadn't thought of that. Yeah, that'd be a typical CADMUS move. Some sorta trigger word or...

Ugh. Who do you know could help?

Batman would be my first guess, but let me ask around. There are some people from other worlds who may be able to help better.

No offence, but if he's anything like "Mr Secret Plans and tech" from my universe? Not goin' within fifteen feet of Batman.

[But she nods.]

If you can talk anyone else around to it...I'll trust you.

[ he smiles. ]
