He’s always tried too hard, but the cracks are showing now.

[Gosh, what a normal, fourteen-year-old thing to say. He blinks at Bruce innocently.]

Hi, Bruce. [Because some Tims try to hide their identities, and some just decide to go for it.]

( it seems from the second he made himself known, nearly every single person here who has some sort of connection to him and batman had sought him out. it's been... something he's still trying to adjust to. figure out. especially considering it's just him where he's from, save for alfred, who isn't here. ironically.

glancing to kyle, he keeps going. )

Good. I don't have time to deal with any sort of misplaced grudges.

[torchbearer]

No, I can't imagine you do.

[ it wouldn't be very pragmatic of him and bruce has always been staunchly realistic. still, he wonders. all those people with history and emotions . . . it would have turned anyone's head a little.

kyle remembers that a little. when hal died. ]

Still. It must have been a lot.

[batsymbol]

( he only gets a little ways down the street, stopping at a corner before he turns and holds out the bag for tim. his bag of things purchased, bruce's own kept in his other hand. as he holds it out, hooked on his fingers, he stares to tim with an expression that's more tired than anything else, but still holds a sort of guidance there in it. )

Don't be so clumsy next time. Or ask.

( the picture, he means. )

[Donnie notices maybe a second later, but by then something's flown past his face and he hears the thud of a body just a ways behind him.

He sneaks a quick glance over his shoulder just to make sure no one else is trying to get the drop on him before he looks back towards the darkly clad figure. A little late to reconsider interfering, he supposes, but he can't help for the sheepish look even as he thinks this guy would be utterly terrifying to run into in a dark alley.

...which is...exactly where they're at right now. Hah....]

( being tailed, fought, and even stabbed by those who are, apparently, ones he comes to take in at some point and look to him in ways that he looked to his own father once upon a time, is not anything he could have possibly been prepared for and he still doesn't know what to do with it. how to navigate it. or if he even should.

if he's tired, it's not just from the constant go mode he's been in since arriving here. )

I'd rather see if there's any truth to Joker being here or not.

( because that's easier for him to deal with. unfortunately. )

[ Tim reaches for the bag. He’s stripping everything for trackers in a park on the way home. ]

Just because you caught it doesn’t mean it was clumsy.

[ The phone would’ve only been visible two, maybe three seconds. The box obscured the button press. The snap sound is disabled on his phone. It was brazen only by Batman’s standards. ]

Bruce.

It's true.

[ that much kyle can confirm. ]

He made a broadcast in winter. But after that, radio silence. Nothing on the streets or anywhere else.

[batsymbol]

( there it is. he'd been waiting for that— figured it was one of them since they all seem to be tailing him here and there.

letting him take the bag, he pockets that free hand of his, the other holding his bag of purchases there at his side. )

I've already found one tracker. Do you want to keep playing this game?

[batsymbol]

If he's here, it's only a matter of time before he gets bored.

( that's usually how it goes with him. )

( he's beginning to see that.

taking a moment to look [this] tim over, he sighs a little. right. there's two of them. one older, who was from before. and the younger one, who had insisted batman needs a robin. )

What're you doing here?

( are you following me, too? in other words. )

[batsymbol]

I doubt that.

( because unless alfred or jim gordon... selina... show themselves here, that really does it for any sort of pool of people he has. )

Not even Alfred?

[Because everyone in the family knows Alfred has been with Bruce the longest]

Bored or just waiting?

[ kyle's fought the joker. he's been hit with the gas. ]

I get being pre-emptive, but he is the Joker.

I haven’t put a tracker on you yet.

[ He doesn’t even have to lie. He risked the photo, but he didn’t have the opportunity to touch him in a natural manner. ]

You can’t blame me for being curious about an alternate version of someone I know. You don’t know me yet, and you’re curious. We wouldn’t be having this conversation if you weren’t.

I'd rather find him before everyone finds out which one it is.

( coming up to the ledge of the rooftop, he steps up onto it, staring down to everything below them, cape flowing in the breeze. )

Where are you stationed?

Newark. Not far.

[ by kyle's standards. ]

[batsymbol]

( he knows whose tracker that was. the point was that he knows they're following him... for the reason that tim gives him. he knows him— they know him, or. some version of him at least.

sigh on his lips, he glances off to the side. quiet. considering. )

It's hard not to be when you all keep following me.

By yourself?

( he's still looking down. )

( alfred is a touchy subject for bruce and it shows in the way he stares to jason. )

Which one are you?

[torchbearer]

[ he shrugs. ]

Pretty much. I run solo most of the time.

[batsymbol]

( that gets him to eye kyle. )

Most of the time.

[ Laughing, Tim shakes his head at this. ]

I was shopping. I can’t help it if we have the same “hobby”. That ship sailed a long time ago.

[ There’s a pause. He wants to find a safe balance of information exchange. Tim doesn’t want to foster paranoia. ]

I don’t expect anything, but I’ve seen enough of the multiverse to want to find out what you’re like for the ones that won’t be able to stop themselves.

I'm the only Green Lantern. The last, so to speak, for a while.

[ the rest have come back, but the moniker sticks to him, even now. ]

My territory is space. Most superheroes on Earth don't spend a lot of time in space. So it leaves me on my own.

[batsymbol]
