I'm the only Green Lantern. The last, so to speak, for a while.

[ the rest have come back, but the moniker sticks to him, even now. ]

My territory is space. Most superheroes on Earth don't spend a lot of time in space. So it leaves me on my own.

[batsymbol]

( that's rough, buddy. )

Guess we didn't meet in space then.

( him and the other bruce he knows. )

[ he chuckles. ]

Kind of. The Justice League Watchtower is in space and I ran into you there. We met on and off otherwise. Sometimes in Gotham, sometimes just dealing with the latest emergency.

[batsymbol]

( it's difficult for him to wrap his head around working with a team. never mind a robin. )

Is that the plan here?

[torchbearer]

[ hm. kyle deliberates on that for a moment. ]

It's not mine. If the League was here, maybe it'd be different but forming that kind of structure isn't really my thing.

Like you, I work alone. Or ask for help when I need it. You're all about plans and contingencies but I . . . only care about helping people.

Who else is part of this League?

( give him names. even if he doesn't know them, having them for future reference in case they show up is useful. )

Uh, let's see . . . [ kyle ticks them off his fingers. ]

Superman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Plastic Man, Martian Manhunter, the Flash, me . . . We do get new members now and then.

[batsymbol]

There's a Flash here.

( but he puts those names to memory. or can look back on them later since he's got those contact lenses in and all. but. )

What do you do exactly?

( if he's "the genius" and all. )

Like me, personally? Or the League?

[batsymbol]

( looking more at him. )

You.

[torchbearer]

[ hm. better to show and explain. kyle creates some constructs. scores of superheroes, leaping over rooftops. superman flying in the sky, wonder woman jumping over walls with her lasso. plastic man, aquaman, cyborg, the flash . . . they all seemingly appear and vanish like glitter. ]

I am a Green Lantern. Whatever I want, I can will into existence.

[batsymbol]

( seeing the various things that kyle seemingly creates, bruce watches with a genuine curiosity there in his eyes. unlike anything he's ever seen before since, again. gotham doesn't exactly have superpowered villains to deal with at the moment. but it seems, one day, it might. )

But not here. ( he adds then. ) There's limits to what you can do.

[torchbearer]

[ kyle pauses for a moment. ]

Actually, no. The place hasn't limited my power at all in that sense. The only limits there are . . . are my own.

[batsymbol]

( hm. )

You're holding back?

[torchbearer]

[ kyle smiles faintly. ]

I'm always holding back.

[batsymbol]

Because of what you're capable of?

( he might be able to relate to that, if so. even if he doesn't always hold back himself. )

[torchbearer]

[ kyle isn't superman. he doesn't hold back because of a code of ethics. jenny's starheart is still there, the power of a sun and more. but he also knows that power isn't everything. ]

Because I'm only human. And I rather keep it that way.

[batsymbol]

( hm. there's something akin to a puff of the faintest laughter under his breath as he looks away from kyle and off towards the skyline. )

A human who glows green and flies.

[torchbearer]

[ he heard that! ]

Coming from a guy dressed in a bat suit? I think I got off easy.

[batsymbol]

( it's to intimidate and strike fear into others. however, bruce being bruce. )

Can you bring people back to life?

[torchbearer]

[ what kind of question is that? kyle stares at bruce for a moment. ]

Uh, no. The things I will into existence are constructs. They come from my willpower and imagination. I can't bring people back.

[ if he could, well . . . he would have. technically kyle did, once, by bringing oa and the guardians back when he was ion. all the universe's powers at his fingertips. he could bring them all back. play god.

you are just a man, the spectre had said. hal had said. and who would know better than hal? ]

[batsymbol]

( bringing a foot up to touch the very edge of the ledge he stands upon, he stares down. he hopes to never need to find someone who can do that here. after hearing what had happened to jason at the hands of the joker... )

If Joker's here, I'm going to find him. I can't afford to ignore the chance that he's here. You hear or see anything, you let me know.

[ isn't that what kyle proposed to begin with? ah, whatever. ]
