[The mask makes it difficult to read him. Probably the point.

Donnie looks at the bodies scattered around them, but no one seems capable of getting up any time soon. At the words of the other, he nods.]

These kinds of guys never play fair so I thought it couldn't hurt to jump in.

Sounds like this isn't your first time.

( especially judging from the way he had handled himself fairly well, even if he sounds... young.

reaching down, he grabs one of the out-cold ones by the ankle and drags him out of the street, dropping him over to the side. )

Well, no. Had a few run-ins ever since I ended up here.

Usually don't have this kind of trouble with humans back home, but then usually we tend to try keeping out of sight.

[He tilts his head as watches the cloaked man.]

Their survival instincts aren't that sharp. They try starting something with you?

( hm. )

You could say that.

( though it doesn't look as if they're going to start anything else with him. what with being out-cold and all.

still, he checks them for things — anything that can be used. )

[The turtle doesn't seem particularly interested in whatever the thugs might have. He does keep an eye out in case the sounds might've drawn anyone else over.]

The ones to really watch out for are those guards.

[He mutters as he pulls up a holographic interface with a sweep over his left forearm. No notices from the police is a good sign at least. Donnie banishes it with another handsweep before glancing down at one of the unconscious bodies at his feet.

He stoops down to rifle through the wallet that had been sticking out of the guy's pocket, making a face.]

( the guards. right. he's seen them around, both in and out of his costume here. so far, no trouble from them, but that could all easily change within a matter of seconds. besides. he can almost smell the corruption around here and on them.

glancing over to his assist here, he catches sight of what he's doing before he looks back down to one of the thugs. )

Nice tech.

[Go figure, nothing but chump change. Donnie tosses the wallet back on the body as he picks himself up again. He flashes a quick grin however, always happy to get compliments on his stuff.]

Thanks! Built and programmed myself. -anyway, police lines are clear so I guess no one's heard your little party here.

[Donnie didn't have much interest in thugs himself, but as the cloaked man turns his way, he has to wonder how scary this guy is when he's genuinely out to get you. Yikes.]

Err, no, I've had this a while now.

( there's a sound he makes at that. one soft — fleeting. )

That's a shame.

( boots are heavy as he goes, definitely not anything one wants to be kicked in the face with. )

[The turtle teen snorts at that, folding his arms as the guy turns to leave.]

You make it sound like that makes it impossible to do here.

( though he still goes, he gives a subtle glance over his shoulder back to the other. he sounds young, he notes. )

Not impossible. Just need to find the right person for it.

[He tries not to scowl at this slight to his ability, but it does help him find his backbone.]

I've been putting together my own tech for years from salvage. I just haven't been here long enough to properly establish a new lab and workshop but I'm still working on it. It's a pain working from scratch. But that doesn't keep me from building things.

( he knows all too well how much of a pain it is to start from scratch. he's lucky some of his things came with him here, but. he's without everything he had in his batcave and trying to start from the beginning with all of that again while remaining inconspicuous about it is... a time.

regardless, that gets him to stop — to just barely look back over to the kid. )

What do you build?

[Same boat, bat-bud.

Donnie opens his mouth and then shuts it again, looking suddenly suspicious. Perhaps belatedly so, but he was always quick to try proving himself.]

Someone who might be interested in seeing what you're capable of.

( not every day you come across someone building their own tech that looks relatively hi-tech at that. )

[He folds his arms, brow arching.]

You're not with any of the guilds, are you?

( turning slightly some to better face the kid. )

[Donnie rolls his eyes.]

I can see this conversation is going to be like pulling teeth.

But no, I am not. I haven't really seen any reason to trust them.

[So far as he knows, he shouldn't be on anyone's formal lists either but he's not going to tell some guy in a cape that.]

( sorry, donnie. both bruce and batman are a little on the quiet side. or, you know. answering what they want to. )

Guess we're on the same page there.

( because bats don't exactly trust law or government. not when it comes to so much about themselves. )

How long you been here?

[Good to know, not that Donnie's run into anyone whose ever said they were trusting of them.

He nods.]

A little over three months now.

( three months. not as long as some, but long enough to have an idea of this place. that'll do. )

Off the grid?

So far as I'm aware. Completely missed the whole registration requirement by accident but the more I've been learning about the place, the better I figure it's been.

[Not without its difficulties but he's been fortunate enough to have his brother there.]

( starting from scratch is never easy. especially when you're without the usual support or the support of others. though he can't blame him for not trusting any of this here — for not trusting either of the guilds. no matter how tempting they make their offers. )

Won't be easy but probably for the best.

Especially with all the Alliance crap going on. It's gotten a lot worse since I first go there. Now they're really pushing for new "Starfallen" to be on a list, and they're peddling the Alliance hard these days to any Starfallen they find. I'm not sure what the ultimate objective is but it can't be good.
