[ he crosses his arms. ]

[He did? But David didn't remember...]

Oh. In the place you and Sephiroth and I were in. The one I don't remember.

[ his lips curls at that. ]

Yes, that one.

[Yeah, Sephiroth hadn't seemed to like that place either.]

I have no memory of the place. Just like I have none of my sister. And I've tried to find ways to get it back. But... But I can't. I have holes and they're just there.

[And yes, he loves his sister, so much. But...]

I want to remember her. If I could find a way to claw them back, I would. But I also love Balthier. And I may not remember much of her, but I remember some of what my friends gave me of her. I think she would want me to be happy.

[ loki can't help the tinge of bitterness in his voice. ]

What a turn of events.

[The bitterness is... confusing. David just frowns. He doesn't understand.]

I don't have a safe way to really chase after the Greek fates right now. And I've been considering a trip home, like we did with Sephiroth. There are powerful telepaths that might be able to help me.

[ loki forces his feelings down. now is not the time. ]

[No, but chances were David was going to start to realize he'd done something soon, after some comments Sephiroth would make.]

I'm learning to live forward, to not always look back. It's probably wrong of me. But I just keep losing people I care about and if all I look at are the losses, I'll stop living in today or for what comes next.

Family is more than just blood, Loki. Family is... The people you love and who love you. So yeah, I'm going to try, but I'm trying not to shatter myself on walls I can't break through. I'm only mortal.

[ loki shakes his head. he's crossing the line, but loki has never been good at objectivity. and it had hurt. ]

[He did? David looks... Confused. And saddened.]

I'm sorry. I'm sorry that I don't remember it and I can't properly apologize or make up for how I treated you because of that. And I'm sorry that I have changed. It's sort of what mortals do.

[ loki holds up a hand. he wasn't asking for an apology. ]

I have nothing against change. I just don't trust you.

[ there's no point. he may have changed, may even be better, but all that means for loki is that even if things were fixed, david would simply change his mind.

simply say he's a bad friend all over again. and loki doesn't deserve that. ]

[yeah, that's fair. David even nods in agreement.]

I can't even begin to argue against that. Would you prefer if I kept my distance from you, unless Sephiroth has cause for my presence when you're also around?

[Because he doesn't want to cause issues with Loki. Especially over something he can't even remember.]

[ he sighs and shakes his head. ]

No. You are Sephiroth's friend. I encouraged him to have those. It would be unfair to stop that now.

[David shakes his head.]

You misunderstand. I won't walk away from him. I'm saying keeping my distance from you specifically, unless it's something like how we worked together regarding the Fixer. Your comfort matters as well.

[ it was tempting. but it rankles him to feel that he's that weak. ]

No. Things are . . . fine the way they are.

Alright then. That's a relief. It would be awkward trying to figure which nights I could see Orpherium shows, and you do throw amazing parties.

[He doesn't say in time maybe Loki will maybe tolerate him. Presuming such things would be unfair. It would be wrong to force it too. Life is just like that sometimes.]

Would it be smart for me to walk away at this moment? Just to, you know, give you space?

[ loki shrugs. ]

It's not always cruel to be cold to someone who has hurt you. But thank you.

[David's known a lot of people, he's been hurt a lot of times, and he's been cruel about it. Hell, that was a lot of his history with his best friend. He's done it himself. But that's not here or there.]

I'm still getting you house warming gifts. Just because I can. I don't get to do that often, and I like shopping.

[ his lips twitch. ]

[He's not paying NEARLY as much in rent now, with him and Balthier both covering costs. So spoiling his friends after all of this Fantastic stuff passes is going to be a priority.]

Any word on Sunset Falls? Is it going to be stable?

It should, now that I've returned. I'll still need to check over some areas, but it seems to be going back to normal.
