[Now that Mechanima and the Society have lifted their control over Central City's borders and the teleporters between various American locations are properly working again, it's easier for visitors to come by again.

As usual, Descendant Karaoke Bar and Lounge is open for business and now hoping that they can have more customers again. Civilian or criminal; temporarily depowered or not; people will want a drink and/or blow off some steam.

This month's popular songs include hits such as It's Not Right But It's Okay, Escape (The Piña Colada Song), Don’t Stop Believin’, and Summer Nights.

The Coyote Ugly Nights were successful despite previous travel restrictions so now these events are happening at least twice a week, depending on which employees are available to dance or do extra security. The social media posts advertising the business and showing off performances are still in full swing as well.

Or you can just drop by during a normal day/evening. As Descendant's official owner, Jason can be found doing things like bartending, serving particularly close attention to the VIPs, or just in the reading room taking a break.

Happy(?) Birthday (In-game date: August 16th):

[It's Jason's birthday and it… might be a mixed bag for him. Previous birthdays have wildly varied from depressing, bittersweet, and for a short while, actually happy. This year things with his family could be better but they could also be worse. There's also no doubt that this year he has people he genuinely cares about and who would care that it's his birthday. It gets confusing having so many ambiguous feelings.

In the hopes of minimizing potentially awkward conversations, he's taking a day-off from Descendant, sleeping in a little and perhaps going out later in the day to treat himself to a new book and his favorite foods.

Maybe you can catch him when he's out and about]

[However the private conversation with Jason goes, Mayuko does venture back to find Sephiroth. She checks the reading room first before heading to the main serving area, looking for his white head of hair. He might have taken a seat but... he did want to take notes on the performance. He shouldn't be difficult to find, question mark?]

[Sephiroth has not taken a seat, because somehow he feels doing so would be more likely to invite conversation from strangers, so it's relatively easy to spot his silver head towering above the other customers. He is watching the current performance with the same neutral curiosity as before, but he glances aside at Mayuko's approach.]

[Mayuko retakes her spot by Sephiroth, a hand fluffing her bangs away to keep them from sticking to her forehead.]

Just one of my ghosts thinking Athena's owl is an indoors pet, when she is very much not.

[He was asking about the call-- at least, that's how she takes the question.]

[Sephiroth blinks. That is what he was asking, but it's not the response he expected.]

I thought it might have been about work.

Your ghosts use the telephone?

Not really; when they speak, electronic devices pick it up as static. I do have a pet camera that's linked to my phone. It can pick up noise-- turns out, an owl, puppy and ghost together are very noisy!

Yeah, I do trust the ghosts with Jun. And even Sable is... somewhat reliable. But even so... you can't be too careful in Sunset Falls.

Starfallen wanting a quiet life go to Little Love. But the majority of us aren't that type. They wind up here, or Sunset. And maybe some stubborn ones're still in Excelsior.

[She waves over a server.]

I am enjoying the mead. And we do want to contribute to its popularity.

So, you wouldn't say you desire a quiet life?

[She nods and places an order for two more tankards and whatever the daily flatbread special is. Taking time to consider the question.]

I already came from a quiet life. Although there are people I miss, I'm not ready to go back to it yet.

Heh... maybe. I don't have anyone from home to fuss at me for endangering myself, or that I have to take care of. Besides Jun.

[She plants her elbow on the table and leans a la icon.]

But it's really more the strangeness. The unpredictability. We have the barest slivers of magic and the supernatural, we're decades away from Excelsior's technological advances. Definitely no "superpowers." Places like this--you read about them. Watch them. Dream about them.

Hmm. I suppose in a way my experience is the opposite. I never lived in a house or owned a cat. I was not invited to bars.

[He read about these things.]

The mundane is novel.

They really kept you cloistered, huh?

That isn't the word I would use, but I was... separate.

[Cloistered implies a certain level of shelter from things he absolutely wasn't sheltered from. He shrugs.]

But then, the magic I've encountered since leaving is quite different as well.

[Mayuko nods eagerly. She remembers his elemental attacks in Excelsior... he might not consider his flight abilities as "magical", but it seems that way to her.]

It is, right? It's shocking, all the kinds out there. Which ones are the most different for you?

[Other magic startled him, but that was the hardest to wrap his head around.]

Where I come from, that isn't possible. And I was constrained by their way of thinking as well. What they have access to... is manufactured, and thus, standardized.

Luckily, the arrival of two more tankards and some flatbread with toppings diverts her attention. She gives the server her card with a smile; as he goes she turns to Sephiroth.]

Now. When you're out like this with friends, before you take a drink, you have to touch glasses with whoever you're with.

[She didn't say anything in front of Jason. But by heaven, Sephiroth will get a crash course in social niceties while she's able to recall them herself!]
