[Now that Mechanima and the Society have lifted their control over Central City's borders and the teleporters between various American locations are properly working again, it's easier for visitors to come by again.

As usual, Descendant Karaoke Bar and Lounge is open for business and now hoping that they can have more customers again. Civilian or criminal; temporarily depowered or not; people will want a drink and/or blow off some steam.

This month's popular songs include hits such as It's Not Right But It's Okay, Escape (The Piña Colada Song), Don’t Stop Believin’, and Summer Nights.

The Coyote Ugly Nights were successful despite previous travel restrictions so now these events are happening at least twice a week, depending on which employees are available to dance or do extra security. The social media posts advertising the business and showing off performances are still in full swing as well.

Or you can just drop by during a normal day/evening. As Descendant's official owner, Jason can be found doing things like bartending, serving particularly close attention to the VIPs, or just in the reading room taking a break.

Happy(?) Birthday (In-game date: August 16th):

[It's Jason's birthday and it… might be a mixed bag for him. Previous birthdays have wildly varied from depressing, bittersweet, and for a short while, actually happy. This year things with his family could be better but they could also be worse. There's also no doubt that this year he has people he genuinely cares about and who would care that it's his birthday. It gets confusing having so many ambiguous feelings.

In the hopes of minimizing potentially awkward conversations, he's taking a day-off from Descendant, sleeping in a little and perhaps going out later in the day to treat himself to a new book and his favorite foods.

Maybe you can catch him when he's out and about]

[She appreciates the sentiment. She does! The operative word is "seems", there. With Chaos Gate's actions sucking metahuman energy from the world, the magic around town is fading. Worse, wards holding back...something... are fading too.

Mayuko's expression flicks to a "yikes" grimace before smoothing again; the mead has a bit more alcohol content than her usual, it takes a breath longer before she realized her smile slipped.]

You know how things go. The scales don't stay balanced for long... is that for me?

[Now that she's remembered things are awful-- another drink sounds good.]

[Jason sees that slip in her expression and senses she's still stressed. He'll probably have to cut her off soon if he wants her to get home safely]

Maybe. How're you feeling now?

Fine? I've only had the one!

Yeah but mead's stronger than your usual drinks. First time having it?

You don't know what "my usual drinks" are. Only what I've ordered here.

[She's had lots of usuals over the past decade, thanks.]

But fine--I have only seen it in the store. Haven't had any until now.

[Jason hands over the mead but he'll likely cut her off soon]

So far it seems to be a hit.

[C'est la vie. Mayuko accepts, looking down into the tankard.]

It's not as... dense as I was expecting. Nice for a summer drink. Probably be nicer warmed and spiced for the winter... oh! Where is your book... sorting pile?

Towards the back of the building. Why? You got some new stuff?

You bet I do! And as much fun as it would have been launching them over the city limits, I decided to wait until things got sorted out.

[Jason snorts in amusement]

Awww. Shame. That could've been a good show. But I guess we'll have to do things the normal way.

Maybe for Christmas.

[There's bound to be someone with a catapult that she can borrow in Sunset Falls.]

Where would you like them? It's better I set them in the review pile rather than half-damp you.

Works for me. Might be a little while before I'm completely dry. What'd you pick out this time?

[She flaps a hand at him.]

Mmm, oh, you know. Some sci-fi, romance, some coffee-table entries. Lots of different mysteries, nothing gruesome. Broad swath of nonfiction travel and light history, and nature books.

Even if they don't fit in the collection, they might entertain you for a spell.

Good enough. The reading room is meant to be surprise every time you visit. The bar can't always be Coyote Ugly every night.

[Mayuko tsks and polishes the mead off. The bar is a literal hideaway from Sunset Falls, and as nice as it is to watch everyone and enjoy the atmosphere, she comes here more to decompress.]

[In a teasing tone]

[She clicks her tongue.]

Yes, I'm sure! You will be, too, because winter is coming, and you'll get sick prancing about damp all night.

[Jason barks out a laugh, amused]

Don't worry. We'll make sure the heating's working before winter rolls in.

[Mayuko plonks her empty tankard on the end of the bar (and readjusts to actually place it on the bar, whoo, it shifted a little bit right there--)]

Why you-- you better show me wherever it is you go to shake out the bugs out the books before I decide to keep them!

[Jason's so very amused by Mayuko's flailing and just keeps smiling]

Awww. And here I was thinking I'm your favorite bartender.

You're a terror, is what you are!

[That doesn't preclude his being her favorite. And ah yes, they are marginally in public, as much as she would like to screech this so the entire block could hear. So she'll modulate.

If she knew where the bookroom was, she'd be moving him along through the power of Manga and Determination. She merely looks around in a huff.]

Fine. Your favorite terror. I am your terror that dances in a wet t-shirt in the night.

[Yep. He's still teasing]

[Sweet fluffy Amaterasu, that phrasing, Jason Todd. One can almost hear the record scratch. It's only because she expected her thoughts to go to... surprising places tonight that, even two meads in, she's able to keep them from completely dissolving her composure.

STILL. Discomfort at being perceived swamps her vexation, and she goes as red as the strawberries on her shirt. Including her eyes. They glow crimson, they shine.]

Never mind the city limits. It'll be more effective to lob the books at you directly.

[Jason laughs]

Okay, okay. I'll be nice. We still need to keep having a rotating collection and I like the stuff you bring in.

[It's not the strongest save, a C- at best. Flattering enough to keep him from getting buried by books in his own bar. What a way to go that would be.]

[She hauls a canvas bag full of books out of her pocket space.]

Now, I have to see how Sephiroth is getting on-- are we going or will you see to the bags yourself?
