It is a fact universally acknowledged that October is a rough month; in a supernatural and magic-fueled town like Sunset Falls, that’s triply true. The various horror-terrors in the woods are extra-hungry, the ghosts are extra-temperamental, the kids are extra-rambunctious. What can be done?

One candy-seller, by the name of Randor, wants to make the October days a little sweeter. He’s opened a shop in Sunset Falls, and while his selection of sweets is still small, they are delectable. So delicious, people are buying boxes to surprise their households, bring to the office, mailing to family and friends out of state. “You have got to try this!”

But they are products of Sunset Falls. There’s a catch somewhere. Not always. But usually.

((OOC: Playing off of the TDM Prompt, this bout of Monster Mash is centered around Randor’s candies. We have four effect-entity pairings to pick from. The effects last three days unless tampered with/cured sooner. What flavor is each color? IDK, they're all yummy. 

RED: Effect: Passions run hot and hotter--love, hate, it’s all good.
Transformation: Firebird/Chimera/Salamander/Infernal/Fire-Aspected. Whichever you choose, touching you might cause burns.

BLUE: Effect: Personality/Ambitions make a 180-degree turn. The calm grow angry, the callous become kind. Motivated to drop who you are and leave it all behind, start anew.
Transformation: Banshee w/ death wail potential.

GREEN Effect: Increasing levels of covetousness over… a category of items. Whatever it might be, you gotta collect them all!
Transformation: Dragon. Might become more willing to take the “shiny” by force over time.

YELLOW: Effect: You’re inspired to sing about your heart’s desire. Your singing voice becomes AMAZING.
Transformation: Siren. Legged-merperson able to breathe on land? Bird-person? However you want to take it! You will be able to lure in and charm people with your voice.

I've been transformed into different animals before. Cat... elephant... kotobuki.... Let's just say I could picture worse things to turn into.

[well, she's not intent on snagging Donnie's bonsai book, but she manifests as subtly as she can a dark-colored energy tendril, inching through the cracks and sections of sidewalk, towards his other books (or where they're being stored.)]

You have no idea... but hey, Sunset Falls is just like that. You're centered here?

[The other books are sitting at the edge of the table beside his coffee, which he reaches for the latter to have another sip.]

Sunset Falls, huh? I've heard weird stuff happens there but I've only popped in once on business. [Which...didn't go so well but HEY they resolved a potential time crisis either way...]

Yeah. It's not New York but it's where my brother's decided to stick around so...

[The tendril crawls up one of the table's leg and pauses there. Patience is a virtue.]

You wouldn't believe it. Even on Main Street, occult bookstores, mystical pharmacies, magic pet shops out in the open. There's all kind of ghosts floating around in town, and all kinds of monsters in the woods.

To be honest, though, Central was way more scary to me when I was starting out. It was really unsafe-- riots over metahuman presence-level unsafe.

No kidding? Huh. [Ghosts... Leo would love that. Only not really.]

I'll admit, magic's not my forte, not that I'm unwilling to learn if there's a way that makes it understandable. That's really been my main problem with it.

[He drapes an arm across the back of his chair, twisting slightly in his seat so he can better face the dragon as he drinks his coffee- completely normal conversation partner!]

...riots, really? I know it got crazy the past few months what with the cults and the political mess with the Alliance. But I only just arrived back in spring. I guess riots would be a lot scarier to deal with without a tank.

Some branches of magic do have systems... or so I've observed. Just a matter of finding the one that best suits.

[The tendril continues its climb and carefully, carefully flattens and wraps over the top book. Just the one, as tempting as the rest look.

Meanwhile, the dragon remains attentive. Completely normal conversations happening!]

Yes, the Starfallen were viewed as the cause of so much disaster, and so many of us staying unaligned generated more suspicion. I... don't think we had any tanks at our disposal, though.

What are some examples? There doesn't seem to be much reason to how most of the things I've seen used. Best case I can figure for my own brand of mystic power is that I've just employed it into something that makes sense to me. Which is tech.

[It's a book on local history within the past several decades. Maybe not as interesting as bonsai but Donnie has his reasons, and really, it's probably not too much of a stretch to guess the why's after their recent time-ventures. He's still oblivious to this progression of book theft.]

A very lopsided perspective that obviously didn't take into account the view of the Starfallen. [Donnie snorts.] We're in a strange world and were potentially getting pressured into registration- like that isn't suspicious in itself. I mean, I can get the concern from a bunch of unknowns with just as unmeasured abilities, but they weren't willing to trust us so how did they expect it in turn?

...okay, maybe not actually a tank, but we have this cool vehicle back home that I call the Turtle Tank. She's built tough and has plenty of artillery at her disposal.
