[Open-ish] October Oddities

What: Various antics with Jason as a civilian and as the Red Hood

Civilian:
[Between running Descendant Bar & Lounge as a civilian and being the violent vigilante and crime lord known as the Red Hood, it’s hard for Jason to have time for himself. But somehow he finds a way to squeeze in a few free days every month.

After running several errands, Jason’s now relaxing on a park bench and reading a library’s copy of The Bad Seed. If one were to look at the bags next to him, he apparently bought some new apparel, tools, and sewing supplies. Come bug him]


Red Hood:
[Tonight, the Red Hood is well within his gang’s territory and busy with making sure things stay in order.

If you’re nearby, you might see a thug get defenestrated out of a dive bar and landing on the curb. Jason then coolly follows after him and cracks his knuckles. Two of Jason’s gang members also come out of the building to follow him]

We can do this the easy way or the hard way.

Alternatively, instead of coming across the Red Hood committing assault and battery, you might see a rarer side of him.

He could be seen escorting a teenager towards a homeless shelter for youths. There's no threatening, dangerous growl to his voice as he talks to the kid.]

Cooking Lesson (Closed to Donnie):
[A lot has happened since Jason and Donnie talked about making a grilled cheese sandwich. Time travel, more new arrivals, a possibly new timeline…. These things happen, you know? But Jason and Donnie’s schedules have finally lined up for them to spend a morning making a grilled cheese sandwich. It should be simple enough, right?]

Might wanna take it easy on the laser.

[Okay, mostly simple]


Crime Lesson (Closed to Accelerator):
[As promised, Jason is going to teach Accelerator on how to be a better criminal.

Tonight, Jason is fully dressed in his Red Hood gear and perched on the rooftop of a store that’s closed for the evening. The meeting spot he and Accelerator worked out is within Backbreakers territory near a chop shop. Said shop’s lights are on and sounds of tools banging and whirring indicate the illicit business is open.

Jason isn't entirely sure how this lesson will turn out but it should be entertaining at least. He just has to wait for Accelerator to arrive]

This isn’t a recruitment drive and they weren’t helping me.

[It was the opposite. The Blue Sabers have lately been an annoyance]

Besides, better at one of these shelters than stuck on the streets.

Yeah, but that doesn't stop people from getting the wrong idea.

[Like Leo himself, who is still suspicious that this was a purely charitable gesture.]

Like maybe it is a recruitment drive.

[Jason snorts]

If it was, I’d be doing way more than this. Here to babysit me?

Can't a guy just be interested? Since we're both Central City nightcrawlers we're bound to run into each other.

[robintohood]

Unfortunately. Nice trick before with that portal.

[faceguy]

Oh, noticed that, huh?

[Not that he was being coy about it.]

Thanks, but flattery gets you nowhere.

[Jason rolls his eyes]

Noted.

[He keeps walking]

Don't you got some sewer gators to take care of?

Why, do you know of any?

[Leo shrugs.]

I’m Society right now, actually. So I’m not really supposed to be stopping any crime. But I get bored, you know?

[So he’s patrolling for trouble right now.]

[robintohood]

[Leo being a Society member is another surprise for Jason to mentally file away. Leo being in the same guild as him could either help or hinder him later on.

Plus, Jason and his gang usually don't admit to their Society membership unless needed or if the outcome is worth it.

He keeps his tone casual]

Maybe you'll bust some windows while stopping a purse snatcher. Property damage is easy.

[faceguy]

[He has been since the Fantastic takeover. When Huvrye bailed, so did he.

The guilds have never had his loyalty either way.]

Property damage isn’t a crime, it’s a natural side effect.

[This is a very teenager attitude. Though Leo is joking. Mostly.]

It’s not like I’m hurting anyone. Unlike some people…

[Jason scoffs]

Calling it doing people a favor.

[faceguy]

[Leo scoffs in return.]

Sure, if you want to call it that-

[But whatever else Leo was going to say is cut off by the sound of breaking glass from the upcoming alleyway. It is still Central at night, and it sounds like someone is up to something.]

[robintohood]

[That gets Jason’s attention as well. They’re not far from his gang’s territory so he doesn’t know if the noise is a sign of trouble for him or it’s just one of his gang members working. Without another word to Leo, Jason bolts it towards the alleyway]

[faceguy]

[Leo hesitates, then hurries to follow Red Hood. If something's happening, he probably shouldn't just bail.

Down the alley, it looks like a couple guys are trying to break into an apartment. Despite what Leo just said, if these guys are trying to commit a robbery, he's going to stop them.

Although he's curious what Red Hood will do.]

[robintohood]

[Jason whistles to get the would-be robbers' attention. His hands are in his pockets and his body language is surprisingly relaxed for someone in the middle of a possible crime in progress]

Shopping?

[faceguy]

[The guys jump, exchanging looks before trying to look innocent.

"We're just locked out," says one of them. "Forgot the key."

Leo snorts from where he is at the opening of the alley.]

Yeah, real believable.

[robintohood]

[Dryly]

Sure. With gloves. Very smooth.

[faceguy]

[Well, this is not getting them anywhere.

Perhaps predictably, one of them pulls out a knife.

"How about you guys just forget we were here, alright? You and lizard boy get lost."]

Hey, I'm clearly a turtle!

[robintohood]

[Jason sighs like he's bored]

Really? And so close to my turf too.

[faceguy]

["Your turf?"

One of the other guys seems to realize something, because he says, "Oh shit," and nudges his companion in the ribs. His friend does not drop the knife, though.]

I'd drop it if I were you, dude. [Leo's helpful advice.]

[robintohood]

[The “oh shit” comment has Jason amused]

You got until the count of three. One… two…

[faceguy]

[The one who said "oh shit" decides he doesn't want to stick around until the count of three. He turns and bolts, leaving his "friend" behind.

That one, though, stubbornly stays.

"What are you gonna do, huh?"

Leo also waits, to see what he's going to do.]

[robintohood]

[Out of thin air, Jason summons a sword and points it at the remaining goon]

There’s more where this came from.

[faceguy]

[Whoa, okay. A weapon out of thin air, pretty fancy.

Finally the goon seems ready to rethink his life choices. With only a moment's more hesitation, he turns and books it.

Leo watches him go, then looks at the Red Hood. He has to admit, he kinda just expected him to shoot the guy.]

Neat trick with the sword.

[Jason dismisses his sword just as quickly as he summoned it]

Thanks. It's come useful to always be armed.
