Happy Mog's Day!

What's Mog's Day? Well, it's not surprising you haven't heard of it, since it isn't an Earth holiday. It's a fall celebration marking the end of the season, before moogles enter their annual hibernation. A simple drawing of a moogle (a white, vaguely koala-like animal with small bat wings) was included in the invitation. On arrival, guests will be asked to don a large red nose, out of respect for Mog. The hosts are exempt from this, given they're the ones throwing the party and all.

Want a tour of the house? The hosts are not familiar with the concept of a housewarming party, but that's essentially what this is, and any of them would probably show you around if you like. They've just moved, but there's no sign of boxes. Rather, the bookshelves and decor seem a little sparse, their belongings having migrated from a smaller space. You may catch glimpses of a large orange cat slinking around behind the furniture. He has not yet adjusted to his new surroundings, and all the strangers aren't helping.

A catered dinner is laid out on the dining room table. (They can cook, they just... didn't.) There's also a chocolate cake waiting in the kitchen for later. It's for Loki; Sephiroth doesn't really care about cake.

The nearby back door leads out into the yard, and the fire pit. Arranged on a table are some materials one might use to create a simple effigy of someone you particularly hate. There's also a bag of marshmallows, seemingly as an afterthought.

[Mayuko glances at the effigies Mark is still assembling, before gathering material for one herself.]

They are quite distinctive. I take it they're deserving of the flames?

[For a moment Mark finishes one creation and looks to her.]

I hope that, while we aren't always hanging out, you would know enough of me to know that I'd never make them if they weren't deserved.

[Mayuko looks back at Mark, then towards the firepit. Even if they weren't deserved, it's a free country. She's not here to judge.]

Of course not. Sorry if I came across otherwise. It's been a long month.

[It's okay if she judges him. He's going to understand. He deserves it. A lot actually.]

It's okay, you know. To have a long month. Or think someone's doing something bad.

This isn't something bad. You told me they deserve it and I believe you.

[She snips some length off of a grey cloth to make some hair for her effigy.]

And I'm not complaining about being busy. It's part and parcel of being here. City Hall and the Alliance, both.

[Huh. That's sort of a relief.]

I can't imagine how busy you are, working in politics in a town like this. It has to be intense.
welcome_summer: (Seahorses live in the ocean I believe)

There are definitely challenges. Keeping the peace between vampires and werewolves. Making sure the local beasties don't get too rambunctious. Keeping tabs on the seers and leyline-managers. But we have an experienced staff, and they're happy to give advice and pitch in.

[She ties the hair on and wraps another cloth around the body for clothing.]

I doubt I'd do as well elsewhere, all told.

I think leading a group of people in any sense is about delegation. So you're doing pretty good to keep in mind of that.

[But he frowns at that last bit. Why wouldn't he?]

You seem pretty adaptive to me.
welcome_summer: (What a beautiful mess...)

[Mayuko sets her doll down and looks up at the sky.]

Maybe. Central was kinda rough for my tastes, and Excelsior's so keen on the science and tech types. I don't know that I'd be happy there.

Yeah, Central can be kind of bad. If I had a hundred bucks for every time I've been mugged this year I'd be able to cover my rent for months.

[It's only a minor exaggeration.]

I really need to get a frequent mugger card.

[Mark, the joke isn't that funny.]
welcome_summer: (It's like I'm in school again)

[The joke isn't that funny! Even if it were "mugging attempts"!

Mayuko leans forward.]

Nobody should need a points card for muggings... what, is it-- is it the neighborhood?

[She'd be hard-pressed to clock Mark as a meta, let alone an active patroller like some people she knows, looking for trouble on the streets. The fact that he seems to be targeted is... not good. Not good at all.]

I don't know if it's the neighborhood or if I'm, like, cursed or something? Seems like cursed is most likely. Probably doesn't help that I have no choice but to carry clearly expensive camera equipment with me a lot.

[Targeted? Wow, he didn't think that was what it was.]
