Happy Mog's Day!

What's Mog's Day? Well, it's not surprising you haven't heard of it, since it isn't an Earth holiday. It's a fall celebration marking the end of the season, before moogles enter their annual hibernation. A simple drawing of a moogle (a white, vaguely koala-like animal with small bat wings) was included in the invitation. On arrival, guests will be asked to don a large red nose, out of respect for Mog. The hosts are exempt from this, given they're the ones throwing the party and all.

Want a tour of the house? The hosts are not familiar with the concept of a housewarming party, but that's essentially what this is, and any of them would probably show you around if you like. They've just moved, but there's no sign of boxes. Rather, the bookshelves and decor seem a little sparse, their belongings having migrated from a smaller space. You may catch glimpses of a large orange cat slinking around behind the furniture. He has not yet adjusted to his new surroundings, and all the strangers aren't helping.

A catered dinner is laid out on the dining room table. (They can cook, they just... didn't.) There's also a chocolate cake waiting in the kitchen for later. It's for Loki; Sephiroth doesn't really care about cake.

The nearby back door leads out into the yard, and the fire pit. Arranged on a table are some materials one might use to create a simple effigy of someone you particularly hate. There's also a bag of marshmallows, seemingly as an afterthought.

[ loki is appropriately fancy because he refuses to do otherwise. he's checking up on guests and making sure everything in its place. if people are forgoing the red nose, a little magic will ensure it stays in place. ]

[Sephiroth is... not so fancy as that. But he is presentable! He takes note of one of their guests... struggling with the red nose.]

I'm still shocked and confused as to what Mog's Day is, but...

[Hey, house warming presents are traditional, and he's shocked to be invited, but he's also pleased. So Mark holds out the gift that he spent so long working on. One of those test shots of Sephiroth in front of the Orpherium, but not one that made it into the test book to show his skill. No, this one was a stunning black and white shot that he hadn't thought fit the feel of the rest of the examples, in a larger size, and pristinely framed.

He was, after all, an expert at this stuff. He knew how to make his work look good.]

What's Mog day? Is that from where you're from or where Sephiroth is?

[And shocked to be invited but David isn't going into that point as he's only recently arrived. Better not to make things awkward. He's just happy to be here to support his mentor and hopefully try and make inroads to making up to Loki for something he had no memory of but he still understood to be his fault.]

Listen, I hadn't gotten a chance to have a housewarming gift sent earlier. Is there somewhere I can put it aside for you guys for after your celebrations? Oh, and I have to say, the place is stunning from what little I've seen so far. The blend of colors is just wonderful.

[Mayuko is not struggling with the moogle nose, thank you very much! She's just... wondering why it's not coming off her face. Very annoying.

To celebrate the housewarming/"holiday", she's brought a bottle of mead from a Massachusetts brewery and some fruit soda. Along with a quick artist's rendition of the creature in question folded greeting-card fashion. It says "Happy Mog's Day" on the inside.

She's up for a tour of the house and can be found at dinner. But she can also be found outside pondering over the effigy materials or inside trying to attract kitty!Loki by ignoring him because she misses her own big not-so-bright boy. It's all good!]

[Sephiroth was not expecting greeting cards from anyone. This may be the first time he's ever received one.]

[ Dylan watches Mayuko ponder over the effigy materials for a moment. ]

[ Balthier was honestly surprised to get an invitation, but he supposes Sephiroth and he are friends, and that makes him glad. In this strange ever changing place, their relationship has been oddly stable and consistent. ]

Congratulations on the house. I've grown quite fond of having one.

[It takes a while, after the hosts have taken the various groups of guests around the house, for everyone to come together. Eventually Mayuko starts glancing over, in that way where she's trying to place where she's seen Balthier before, without saying it.]

Tina can't think that hard about HAVING TWO DADS AND A HOUSE AND A BEDROOM or she'll got all drippy and gross yo.

But she's really happy to smack a mog nose on your face.

"The chupamogra will eat you if you do not don this protective talisman AND WE DON'T NEED A BLOOD SACRIFICE TIL NEXT MONTH OKAY. It would dishonor the gods."

Sephiroth watches her antics with amusement. When none of their guests are too close by, he'll remark:

"I see you're adding your own variations to the holiday."

Dylan lets her smack the nose on his face, then grins. "Maybe I ought to take two, then. Or is that going to get me punished for my greed?"

What in the world is he even doing here? How did he get invited? Mark doesn't know but he isn't looking gift horses in the mouth. He's happy to be here, seems completely amused with the nose, and he's just happy to enjoy the time and other people present.

He does have his camera with him of course, and the easiest time to find him is as he's sitting by the fire pit, twisting together effigies and taking pictures of them before throwing them on the fire.

He might have more than a few people he's burning here in frustration. Maybe that's something to talk to him about.

Mark is the one Sephiroth had pegged for 'last one to remove the nose' and that seems to be going smoothly so far.

He is a bit surprised to see Mark making so many effigies, although perhaps he shouldn't be, given some of the things Mark has confided to him against his will.

[Effigy-crafting is not a housewarming activity Mayuko's familiar with. Maybe it's a Sunset Falls thing one or the other of the hosts picked up.

Whatever the case, Mark really seems to be taking to it. Hmmmm.]

Listen, David does not look good with a large red nose. At all. He looks horrible, he knows it, but he's powering through with the most positive smile he can muster. Because being supportive of his friends matters. Especially as they continue on with the course of their lives.

But he's here, he smiles whenever someone approaches, and he always greets them warmly. He's got a seat open next to him at dinner (and his boyfriend on the other side, and afterward he sits happily by the fire pit to toast marshmallows, which always come out flawless. Though he definitely looks like he's regretting a lack of he rest of the s'mores makings.

None of them look good with the nose. It's hilarious.

But it's difficult to tell from Sephiroth's expression whether he's amused or just pleased with the situation in general. He's come a long way from being the sort of person who would never allow himself such frivolity.

Dylan's marshmallows, meanwhile, are catching fire and coming out charred and gooey. He watches David roasting them — actually properly roasting, instead of sticking them in the flame.

"Why not just set them on fire?" He asks before pulling his from the flame and blowing them out. As if to mock him, the gooey marshmallow slips right off the stick and onto the pavement.

At some point early in the evening, Balthier squeezes David's hand, leaning close to whisper "You are adorable regardless of how uncomfortable these silly things make you."

It does prevent him from comfortably kissing the other, so he settles for booping the foam noses together. "I don't know, maybe we should keep them."

They should not.

You know what? Dylan's cool with the red nose. He can make this work, especially with everyone else wearing one. He's surprisingly relaxed at Sephiroth's party — There's none of that weird family tension like what had been going on at Bruce's party.

At dinner, Dylan's trying to be on his best behavior, at least. He'd grown up under a pretty strict roof and can call upon some basic knowledge of table manners when he feels like it. And he likes Sephiroth a lot, so he feels like being well-behaved now.

At one point, when dinner conversation turns to home worlds, Dylan shares some details of his own — He knows there's a Loki there, though he doesn't think the party's host is the same one. He has actually met his world's Thor and fought side by side with him in battle! Maybe he's a little too chuffed to be able to brag about that, but he's trying to impress the adults.

At the firepit, Dylan's effigy is a spindly-looking fellow with some prominent chest armor and a face that's 90% teeth. He seems to take great pleasure in dropping it into the fire.

"Rot in hell, Knull."

Dylan's dark schadenfreude at his effigy's execution is immediately brightened when he spots the marshmallows. It's not the marshmallows themselves that delight him — Okay, they're a little delightful. But what really gets him is Sephiroth remembering Dylan talking about bonfires and marshmallows being a good match.

(Or maybe it was Loki's idea. Dylan's pleased either way.)

Balthier raises a brow. He hasn't seen Dylan in awhile, but he's always found of the boy. He's pleased he and Sephiroth know each other.

"My congratulations on your slaughter. Maybe I should commission you to make one of my father."

[ once the party was winding down and the guests had left, loki takes sephiroth up to a small observatory nearby. located on a hill, generally out of the way from everyone else, it was a prime spot for their evening together. loki had already paid the staff generously for the night, leaving it open for their use.

hojo's memories have dimmed over time, but loki does vaguely recall a planetarium? located on the planet. but he's not sure if sephiroth has ever visited one. ]

Here we are.
