[The weather is gradually warming up and moods are lifting up for people! Well, lifting up for most people. For the owner of the Descendant Karaoke Bar and Lounge, he’s just briskly working as usual. Maybe he’s being less talkative and more introverted than usual but sometimes that’s what happens when one is busy. He even sometimes still puts on a smile to make customers feel more welcomed.

But that’s assuming people are following his rules. If otherwise, then his vocabulary gets colorful as he snarls out statements like…]

[Okay, maybe how much rougher he’s gotten this month when he’s literally throwing and kicking out belligerent patrons might indicate he’s in a certain other kind of Mood. Don’t worry. He doesn’t usually bite.

On a note that can’t possibly be related, the 4-eyed black and yellow talking cat that used to hang out at the Descendant hasn’t been seen in a while]

Red Hood:

[The Backbreakers are as active as ever in Central City. They had a few setbacks over the last few months but that hasn’t kept them down. They’re maintaining their territory. Illicit goods are still being handled. The racketeering business is sturdy. The chop shops are always having a good time. If you ask a local in their territory, they might say the gang members are also friendly neighborhood vigilantes.
The Backbreakers are Society members after all. Overall, the gang’s recovery has been okay.

So in their territory during an evening, it’s possible you might see the Backbreakers’ leader with a couple of his people outside of a dive bar.

Though the Red Hood’s helmet hides his facial expressions, the way he’s whaling at a rule breaker might indicate he’s not in the best of moods at the moment. Blood splatters on his helmet also indicate how brutal he’s being tonight. He then drags his screaming victim by the hair across the sidewalk]

It’s time to get back to basics.

[........ Accelerator isn't totally sure this is the best time to bring this up, but this could also just be one of those situations where you need to rip the band-aid off.]

I asked the other Jason about registering as my legal guardian. He's asked me about fake names for the paperwork, so I'm assuming it's going to happen.

[Huh. That certainly gets enough of Jason’s attention to put aside some of his crappy mood. As much as he doesn’t like his double, they can at least both agree on how much kids should be protected. Taking Accelerator under someone’s wing as opposed to trusting the government and guild system makes perfect sense]

Yeah, I set up a fake name for myself when I took someone in. Can’t trust the system with all of your real information.

[levelshift]

[Accelerator blinks, surprised to hear that Jason isn't pissed off about this. Not because of the legal guardian thing, but because he's asked the other Jason, and he's well aware of how much those two hate each other.

But that's... good, right?]

It's annoying. I've only ever gone by the name of my esper ability.

I'm only doing it for practical reasons, but I thought you should know.

[Jason nods]

It’s better than being on your own. Got any ideas for a name yet?

.... He suggested Asa.

[Which is gender neutral, Japanese, and sounds along the same lines of 'Accelerator' with there being no chance that it's his real name, so it's perfect.]

[… Huh. It always feels very fucking weird how much Jason can agree with his older self but here he was]

Not a bad one. Stick to something that kinda resembles your name. Aki might be another one to think about.

[levelshift]

That one might work. There's only one or two kanji depending on how you spell it.

[He gives a small shrug.]

The only thing I remember about my actual given name is that it uses three kanji, so 'Aki' has no change of being it.

[Under his helmet Jason furrows his brow. He would love to get his hands on the people who abused Accelerator but what’s done is done. So Jason maintains his temper]

You never wanted to know what your real name is?

[There’s judgement in the way he asks, only mild curiosity]

[Accelerator gives a firm shake of his head. This is something he's thought a lot about, so he doesn't hesitate in answering.]

Not really. I'm not that person anymore, so whoever I used to be is better off staying dead and buried.

[It's depressing, but hey, if there's anyone here who would understand that line of thought, it'd be Jason.]

[Jason nods. He understands painfully well what that’s like. Considering his previous life forever gone is what he had to learn in order to move on after he was resurrected by the Lazarus Pit. If he were to chase after what he lost, then he would just forever be in despair. It’s not a way to live]

Better to make something new with what you know you got.

[levelshift]

[He can't really remember his life before Academy City, and honestly the idea of him being some normal, good kid is probably the scariest thing about all of this. It's easier for him to accept being a monster.]

Yeah. Otherwise I'm just going to make myself fucking miserable.

[Not that he isn't already miserable, just... more miserable.]

[Jason understands that sentiment all too well]

Yeah. And why bother with? There’s other shit to do.

[levelshift]

[He gives a small nod at that.]

Right. I wanted to let you know about that, so... I'll leave you to your business.

[Jason shrugs. He could use a break. It’s been a long night]

It’s fine. What got you to want a guardian?

[Again, there’s no judgment. There’s only curiosity. He had gotten the impression that Accelerator would rather be independent most of the time]

[levelshift]

Like I said, I'm just being practical. I'm still a minor, so there's shit I can't do myself. It's also easier for me to have a legal guardian that understands me being an esper, instead of some random fuck the Society's assigned.

[Jason has a far, faaaaar better grasp of Accelerator's ability and mental state than his previous NPC guardian!]

[Jason snorts in mild amusement. His doppelgänger would fit into that role]

No doubt about that. Can’t really trust hired stoolies for that shit.

Yeah. It's just easier.

[And makes him feel a little less alone.]

Staying at his place would be a good upgrade too.

[He doesn't like to think about it but it's a strange coincidence that both Jasons wound up with more fancy homes while on this Earth]

[God, what is with Jasons and that.]

[That would be so awkward. He isn't family, and he doesn't want to pretend to be.]

[Jason snorts. Yeah, he's not surprised by that]
