( i. grand opening — mingle and drinks )

[ welcome to the opherium. open to all metas, provided you’re up to the dress code. so make sure you’re dressed to the gills with your fanciest clothes or you might just be asked to leave. you’re ushered into a grand hall. there are appetizers like shrimp cocktails and little quiches placed on large tables for you to nibble on and champagne glasses being passed around by waiters. located in the middle is a large chocolate fountain for all you dessert lovers (loki. it’s for loki). grab yourself a drink and go hit up a familiar face. ]

( ii. dance dance )

[ and of course, once the mingling and networking is done, the staff come to clear the chairs away and leave plenty of room on the dance floor. the lights go dim, casting soft shadows against the wall. slow waltzes begin to filter through the hall as gently encouragement to go find a partner, maybe hold them close, enjoy a little . . . company and more.

or maybe you just want an excuse to step on someone’s foot. equally valid. in fact, there might be a little magic in the air that tugs you towards someone you want to be with . . . ]

( iii. star gazing )

[ the party is winding down. maybe you’re ready to go back. curl up on bed after a late night with drinks and dancing. or perhaps you’re feeling a touch of wistfulness, a need to seclude yourself after all that jazz. consider then, finding yourself a nice quiet corner on the upper levels of the theatre, where there are some nice balconies for you to collect yourself.

and there are always the stars to keep you company. ]

I'm gonna punch you.

( it wouldn't change anything but it'd make him feel better. )

Barton, please. Your penchant for pain doesn't need to be a public display.

It's not a penchant. I just wanna punch you.

( more and more each minute. )

Because it offers some kind of control. And you don't care what it invites back.

But I don't think it's wise to punch the host at his own party.

[arrowsguy]

I just said I want to.

( not that he was going to. )

But I won't just yet. There's plenty of time since it doesn't look like either of us is going to be going anywhere anytime soon.

Is that your only goal then?

[arrowsguy]

I don't know.

( it is an achievable goal, at least. )

My goal is to get the hell out of here.

It might be wise to cultivate a few other goals.

Shot bad guys with arrows.

( and other things. but that's the big one. )

It is a continued marvel that you are still employed.

( archers were in high demand or something. )

[ he shakes his head. ]

Still. That cannot be all there is.

It's not.

( but clint shrugs. )

But it's what's been taking up most of my time lately. I don't know what you remember but things got a little...hairy for awhile.

I am somewhat aware, though I was not present for it.

Thanos . . . enacted his plan, correct?

[arrowsguy]

He did.

( he's subdued as he says it but steady. )

Yeah, he did what he said he was going to do.

[dothelokimotion]

So he couldn't be stopped.

[ loki surmised as much, but still. ]

[arrowsguy]

No.

( not then, at least. )

Eventually yes but not at first.

[dothelokimotion]

[ loki sighs, looking away. ]

I thought as much.

[arrowsguy]

Wasn't a good time for anyone.

( maybe he should elaborate, tell loki more but he sighs. )

Sorry to be the bearer of the news and all.

It's not your fault. I had just . . . hoped Thor and the rest would have been enough.

[ but if he had believed that, truly believed that . . . then the invasion of new york would have never taken place. his fear of thanos trumped his belief in thor.

in the end, that's why he died. because at least thor would live, no matter what. ]

I really don't know the logistics of...what I'm supposed to say and what I'm not supposed to say here.

( since it seems he comes from a different time than loki does. )

But I can say that Thanos is eventually defeated. It's just...difficult.

That is not your burden.

[ nor would he place it on barton. it's not a kindness, but a cessation of sorts. ]

But I appreciate those words.
