[ Much like Loki's last party-venture, this is set up very much in the same vein. a large ballroom for dancing needs. Tables and waiters passing around hors d'oeuvres and drinks. At the entrance of the ball room, there’s a fancy mask waiting for you if you don’t have one already. There’s a strict dress code for the event this time and Loki expects everyone to dress accordingly.

The masks also have a spell attached to them. They’ll afford you complete privacy. No one will recognize you under the mask. Unless, of course, you take it off and let them know. Perfect for the party guest who may want to indulge without causing a fuss. Hit up a partner and see where the evening takes you.

This event wouldn’t be complete without candy, of course. There are candies arranged on the tables in all types and colors. In front of them is a small description regarding each kind of candy. Be sure to read them carefully, as Loki has added a little . . . extra to the sweets, to give them a little . . . zing. ]

Oh I know how bad it is to always hide. I’ve been doing it since I got here in June.

Oh, so very very much. In my world, people with powers aren’t common. Imagine how the government reacts to people who are born genetically able to do interesting things. There’s a whole secret government department for addressing our existence.

You mean to keep track of you and keeping an eye out for trouble or for new weapons.

They kept ‘track’ of some people. Those who were more interesting, or whose powers could stand ‘deeper’ study, we got ‘invited’ to stick around for a while.

[Too many years lost in such a horrible way.]

[Jason shakes his head, sympathetic]

Was it a nasty surprise when you got dropped here then?

I mean, it was nasty to be here instead of home. But like most things, it’s complicated, and I have complicated feelings about it. I have family back home after all. But I’m safer here, strangely enough.

[That's surprising]

Why? Because of the government not tracking you the same way?

[atypical_echo]

Bingo. It's sorta hard back home, when we're this big giant secret, keeping yourself hidden. And since I'm a power mimic, it's harder for me. Because I don't always know when I'm going to get accidentally near a random person with abilities and accidentally do something. In elementary school I once punched a bully. Sent him flying. I didn't even understand.

[Jason slightly winces at the mental image]

Scary. How long would you have that mimicked power?

[He hopes Mark doesn't accidentally summon swords]

So long as I'm in range. Sometimes it's not so bad. Like, there's something really satisfying about being around a telepath. Like, back home my friend Chloe can read the impressions and shapes of thoughts, but not always the words, and she has to talk back out loud. But the two of us can sit together for hours and never say a word out loud because we've forgotten we're using our minds.

[Other things were less fun, but he liked that one. It was a skill he knew how to use quite well.]

Heh. Hadn't thought about that before but it sounds convenient. Got any favorite powers you like to mimic?

[Mark considered all he'd been through, and then sighed. Because the two he liked most were also the two he had the most trouble with at times.]

Empathy is nice to understand other people. But of course I can only get that around an empath, and then things turn into an echo chamber and we work each other up. And there's dreamwalking. It's... Beautiful sometimes."

Dreamwalking? Meaning being in other people's dreams?

Yep. Been there, done that. Didn't realize it until later. Happened on musical night. Everyone dreamed in song. Seriously not fun.

[Jason lightly snorts]

I don't know. Sounds like a blast to me.

I mean, it is until your dream songs are sorta judging yourself and all of that? Forcing you to feel bad about choices and second-guessing your life and all of that.

Don't a lot of musical numbers usually reveal what the singer's really feeling in that moment?

You're not wrong man, not at all. But sometimes people are hiding things from themselves.

It can be a very uncomfortable realization by yourself. Having an audience wouldn't help.

Yeah. It's worse when you go into the mind of your sleeping girlfriend and realize that she feels like you're holding her back or feeling like she thinks she needs to coddle you or something.

[Jason pauses. That... was weirdly specific]

Speaking from personal experience there?

[atypical_echo]

Oh so very, very unfortunately personal experience there. I don't recommend it. But otherwise, well, it can be nice to bein other people's dreams, and you have a lot more control.

Yeah, plus you can do a lot more stuff in dreams than in the real world. So it's sorta like lucid dreaming?
