[OPEN] Leave that old record spinning~
Who: Jason Todd
robintohood and you!
What: Grand Opening Week of Descendant Karaoke Bar and Lounge
When: Week of November 28th
Where: Central City
Content Warnings: N/A for now. Will edit if needed.
[Throughout November, you may have seen posts across all the major social media platforms about a new Central City karaoke bar opening up. They even include some nice professional photos of the interior taken by Mark Bryant. Or maybe you’ve heard vague rumors in the criminal underworld about a new safe haven for discussing and doing some illicit business.
Meanwhile in Central City, the renovations of a two-storied building with a basement and an attic were being done swifter than any legally permitted construction project. The owner made sure it was good work done too.
And now at the tail end of the month, there’s a newly opened karaoke bar and lounge known as Descendant. Everyone is welcomed, regardless of their meta status or if they’re part of any guild.

Descendant’s entrance door is relatively innocuous. As soon as you step into the building though, you’re in the security check area and met with bouncers holding metal detector wands. No one’s allowed further in until they get checked. Once you check your weapons, you’ll receive a key labeled with the number of the locker your weapon(s) are in.
In a nod to Ascendant, the previous bar that attracted some of Central’s criminals, much of Descendant’s interior basic layout is similar but now with a speakeasy-esque decor. Once you walk through weapons check, you’re greeted with the first floor being an open space for mingling, drinking, and eating. The walls are visibly brick and the tables and chairs aren’t too fancy. The first floor is also where the bar is.

Further towards the back of the first floor are private rooms for guests to enjoy if they reserve ahead of time and pay extra. The cheapest karaoke rooms are simple and while the most expensive are more luxurious.

One room that makes Descendant unique is the reading room everyone is welcome to use. You're free to drink and enjoy some quiet reading time. Take a book for keeps or donate a book! Quiet conversation is welcome, but overly noisy patrons will be kicked out.

On the second floor are a couple of arcade machines, pool tables, and a stage for live performances. There are plush lounges for people to sit and enjoy the shows, or to take a break between rounds of pool.
With the exception of the reading room and the employee-only areas, you’ll hear music throughout most of the building. It’s either coming from the karaoke machines or from a separate playlist.
Whatever you decide to do, the owner and other attentive employees hope you enjoy your time at their establishment.]
((OOC: Mingle post! Enjoy yourselves. More information about Descendant is here and here, including an opt-in form for the BatFamily to spy on your character.))

Or he’s in the reading room, looking quite relaxed. It’s his favorite part of the building after all. In any case, come bug him.]

Attic safehouse
Nico is trying to keep it as fake as possible. He doesn’t want or need oversight, and it’s not like Jason wants a kid. But Nico’s realized that he needs more details than he has to manage casual conversations.
So he shadow travels over to Jason’s apartment, arriving with a soft thump of sneakers on the floor in a pitch black room. Did he miss and land in another storage locker? Better check.
Demigods don’t carry flashlights when they have magic weapons. Nico pulls out his sword to see by the faint purple light it casts. ]

What some might not know is they also act as part of security, perfectly willing to use their chemokinesis to stop trouble before it starts, although they prefer not to gas the whole place when a more focused tactile transfer can do. It also helps make petting the cat a very pleasant experience if you're inclined to. They're good people like that.
And always willing to have an interesting conversation with intelligent company.

This time, though, she's approaching for work purposes. She makes a show of coming around the bar to wash glasses, when she's really addressing the cat curled up on the bartop.
"Table nine is starting to get a bit rowdy, the guy in the bomber jacket is the worst offender. Would you mind helping to settle them down?" While almost all of them are perfectly capable of handling a fight, should it break out, she'd rather handle things quietly.
It's opening week, no need for things to get out of hand just yet.

Cool place, huh?
Tim Drake [OTA]
[ If you're here, you're family. Or, you know, you've paid to book the room, but arrived either early or late. Or maybe you're just lost. The Descendant does have a lot of rooms for one little old speakeasy.
Whatever it is, Tim will stop arranging the furniture and straighten up when he hears someone coming. Black jeans, black t-shirt, black accessories. He almost looks like he's breaking into the place, but everything's a little too shiny and tight. There's a quick flash of a smile, but no one expects bubbly warmth at this sort of place anyway. ]
Oh, hey. Do you need anything...?
Second floor
[ "Somehow", Tim keeps being the one who's tasked with running trays of drinks upstairs. This is the fourth time he's picked his way between tables, customers, and pool players in the past half hour, dropping off glasses and picking up orders. He never writes anything down, but you're not going to get the wrong order no matter how complicated you make it.
This time, there's a crack as someone scratches so hard that he has to catch the cue ball to keep tonight's concussion tally at zero. ]
It's pool, not baseball. Anybody goes to the hospital, and the tables get replaced with Pac-Man.
Main Bar
[ What did you do? Who did you punch? Who did you pinch? Whatever's going on, Tim's staring you down across the bar with a calm, almost pleasant expression. ]
Start talking or start walking.
[ You're not thrown out yet, but it's so close that this better be a real good explanation. ]
Private Rooms
Granted one of those supplies was a fortifying mixed drink, which he was supposed to be carrying to the reading room where he could mentally compose his list for the evening shopping before heading back.
And then there he was, looking at Tim, distracted. Yes he was lost, but he was also smiling now.]
Yeah, reading room? And to say I get why Loki would hit on you, once I see you in those pants. Which isn't me flirting, by the way. It's observing that the look is definitely in his taste.

Private Room
When the attendant opened the door he was in the middle of belting out a song that had been going around the radio recently but was entirely new to him. His English had a thick accent to it but he was enthusiastically shaking his ass and spinning to the beat of 'numb numb numb numb'.
He spotted Tim on one of the spins and lit up. Dressed in a light t-shirt and jeans, with his hair up in a bun, he didn't look that different than most guys in their mid-20s. He waved and made an exaggerated 'come here' gesture.]
I need more of whatever the fuck this shit is. At least five more and make them jumbo. I want to feel it in the morning.
[He pointed to three glasses that all looked like the remainders of the apple cider manhattan]
And help me pick a song! I don't know the western artists very well!

Main Bar
[It's deadpan, said with a very controlled expression. This isn't Huvrye's first time answering to authority. It is, however, the first time in a long time that he's actually cared about the outcome, so he's trying to keep it level.]
[A very drunk patron had gone after his wings. It hadn't hurt - they're made of aura, not bone and feather - but Huvrye had still told him off, several times when the guy wouldn't take no for an answer, and finally flared them in irritation.]
[Which the guy then took as an attack and came in swinging, at which point Huvrye - who had not wanted to deal with any of this - had knocked him down, out, and through a table.]
[Entirely on accident.]
[He hadn't even been modding for strength - the human had just gone down. He doesn't know much about humans yet, but evidently they're not nearly as hardy as homunculi, or even your average adult fairy. Good to know.]
I can get you a new table.

So despite being at work — dressed in black jeans and a black button down, a black apron tied around her waist — she's in a good enough mood most nights.
And while she doesn't recognize Kyle immediately, since she rarely deals with Lanterns, she can be nice when asked a question.
(He probably wasn't meaning to ask her, but she happened to be slipping by and can't help herself, really.)]

Cassandra Cain-Wayne | OTA
All of the staff members have a way to call Cass when she's needed, but most of the time they don't have to bother. She has a habit of appearing right as a situation begins to escalate to the point of needing intervention.
Whether she just got to tell someone to "back off" from giving unwanted attention, or fully dragged a man out the front door, Cass is looking very happy to be the muscle of the operation.]

jon kent ( dc comics ) ota
still, though the faded denim and worn flannel shirt suit him, uh, very well, he's probably a little too sweet-faced even beneath the black-rimmed glasses currently sliding down the bridge of his nose. it's not that jon can't be scary when he needs to be, it's just there are so few situations that actually call for it, and it doesn't come natural for him.
he'd planned on just saying hi and offering congratulations on the opening, but.. well, there are some interesting aspects to the building. so he might be found on one of the arcade machines, as human as can be in his speed on the controls. if he loses, he doesn't even swear, self-censoring himself with shoot or dang. it's a habit now, alright?
if he's not getting his ass kicked with like mortal kombat, he's definitely in the reading room, long legs curled up to make himself smaller as he pages through a book as slowly as he can make himself read. .. and yes, he's only had a glass of water so far. ]

Jon's wholesome "boy from a small town" look and dorky glasses is hard to miss, especially when he's in a more mature and darker setting. The water doesn't help either.

Mayuko Shiraki | OTA
i
After the standard weapon check, Mayuko takes herself to the tables where she orders one of the house specials along with a beer. She watches the crowd and is quick to welcome a friendly face to join her.
ii
Later on, she can be found perusing the shelves in the reading room. Twelve of the books were her own donation, but now she's appraising the rest of the collection. Lending library-adjacent or not, the initial set of books on display are being judged.]
Hmmm... pretty well-rounded. Given the speakeasy theme, how many copies of The Great Gatsby do you think they're going to run through?
Doreen Green | ota!
She can be found all over the building, exploring each room and exclaiming "dude!" with greater and greater enthusiasm every time she makes a cool new discovery ("Karaoke rooms?! Dude!"). The arcade games are a big hit with her, and she's happy to take on anyone in a round of Street Fighter or Pac-Man. Likewise, the reading room is excellent, and she spends a little while admiring the selection before moving on.
Eventually Doreen settles down at a corner table on the first floor, nursing a Shirley Temple and some onion rings while she people-watches from the sidelines. It's a good night! ]
no subject
But now that he'd finished his hot chocolate he came back out to the main bar area, turned in the cup, and looked around. Probably time to go. Except... Well, he catches sight of a familiar face and waves at her across the bar. He doesn't want to interrupt if he wasn't welcomed after all.]
